    This is such a perfectly written pop gem. The syncopated piano bass over the straight 4 right hand is perfect. But Dolly's voice (an insanely beautiful mixture of heartbreak, vulnerability and hope) is what makes this song so heartwrenching and completely pushes it over the top. This was originally released on a BJ Thomas record. Not even close. So glad the producer Gary Klein heard it and knew she had her remake it. She completely nailed it.

    Moving from NJ to VT, August 16, 1977, with my late husband and best friend, and the help and moral support of two good friends. Long drive, big change, new life. Heard on the radio that Elvis had died. And heard lots of “Here You Come Again”, which I loved instantly, and has always meant for me “the past is past and done; the future is ahead and who knows what it holds?” Still love the song, and Dolly, who truly is in a class by herself.

    Even if you know nothing about music theory, you should be able to hear the key changes in the song. You feel the effect of building and releasing tension musically. That's why - the key changes. The emotional effect precedes understanding the theory. It's a brilliant song, the way Dolly sang through those changes, and explains why it sound so good, even beyond the production values of its day.

      Yeah the 70s influence on all genres was definitely omnipresent. Listen to some of those chord inversions! In a country song! Though I guess this was more country-pop than strict pop, much like Glenn Campbell's Rhinestone Cowboy. Modulations, great string arrangement, man I miss the 70s...

    • @srkbear1
      @srkbear1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@jho2255 Actually the rising key changes are a long-utilized means to bring an almost imperceptible rise in energy and “interest to the ear” at least until the dawn of pop music. The Beatles did it for one.
      There is nothing pretentious about contributing a truthful, educational aspect of any art form. Your calling this out in your tone of condescension was anything but genuine, so I think you managed to take a glib, gratuitous troll quip into definitive evidence of one of two scenarios: one, you are an officious ass and pretentious yourself, or two, you’re so profoundly musically inept that when someone speaks with intelligence about music you cower in the corner and gnash your teeth at their superiority to you.
      Either way, you’re a drag. Sit down.

    Oh My God! I remember this song just like it was yesterday!!! Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again" 1976-1977. I distinctly remember hearing this GREAT SONG on the car 📻 radio of my Dad's Volkswagen "Thing" back in December 1976 or January 1977. It was on a Saturday morning and very cold on a day of the NFL Playoffs. My younger brother Kevin and I were going somewhere with our Dad that day. Aaahhh memories of childhood!😁😀🎅🎄❄☀⏳🔎📆🎶🎵🎹🎻🎺🎼

    Here she comes again. Defying all 3xpectations and being the first female Country artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I've been a fan since the very first time I heard you on the radio singing this song.

      It took six years of pining for a man who would never be there for me before I found the courage to end it. And only then could I start to recover. After a very depressing struggle to put it behind me I'm now happier alone than I ever was living on a dream. Your situation may not parallel mine at all, and I hope it doesn't (he was a married man). But if you want something more for yourself you have to first free your heart so you can move on. I wish you every happiness and a happy holiday.

      @@natsomething0 I'm sorry for what you went through, I know that pain. I stopped pining many years ago, that just screwed with my head and heart. He and I are not young, a good few years passed middle age infact and I have my own life and my kids who I adore. Life is good but so much better with him in it and I will always hope.
      Another good song is Garth Brooks, The Dance - "I could've missed the pain but I'dve had to miss the dance". For me, life is too short to miss the dance. I'm glad you are happy now. Happy Christmas and have a great New Year

    Every once in a while a song comes along with perfectly matched lyrics and melody, Perfectly arranged and produced with some soaring violins to finish it off. This is one of them. I would bet any intelligent life form in the universe would agree.

      I have been in the same position as you in the past. For as long as I can remember I've loved old music, and when I was 10/11 I loved Lady GaGa. Believe it or not, in my school not even she escaped criticism as she was too "out there". So, when I was in secondary school I started to listen to chart music, from around 11-13, and I would secretly listen to old music with my dad. Then, when I was around 13/14, I thought "enough is enough" and I just embraced my love for music from times gone by. I started listening to Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, the Andrews sisters, and of course Dolly Parton amongst many more. Not only was I listening to what I loved, I was much happier because I was being true to myself. Even some of my family would make fun of me for being a "50s reject" and my friends never shut up about it (I honestly don't know what the big deal was ). Then I started dressing in vintage fashion, and my friends loved it so much they copied me! Then fallout 4 the video game came out and the entire soundtrack is (can you guess it) 40s/50s music! Then they all loved it and thought it was cool, even though I'd been listening to it for years and they all would make fun of me. That really pissed me off 😂 but hey, now at least I can talk to them about it and they actually understand that music from that time is amazing, and in my opinion, better than any other music out there 😍
