i just got surgery 3 weeks ago, super easy recovery for me. im so lucky i have a super high pain tolerance for a 13 y/o because i didnt feel much pain throughout the 4 days of recovery, about 70° pre surgery, 18° now and i only have a half rod 😭 doctors were super surprised when i came back in for a check up saying that i didnt cry throughout this whole process and that im off my meds. I hope this encourages some of you guys, everything will be worth it in the end ❤️
I never knew how much pain you went through till I watched this video. It was so heartening to see you like that, but make us realise the extent of such cases. You are such a strong person and an inspiration to many. Keep going and do what you do great, and DANCE! You do all us Wirralpudlians proud ❤ x
She did have a very good cough though lol. Because she was intubated for the surgery you need to "wake" your lung up and clear them out with some good coughing! She is just too sweet to keep her please and thank yous while being in so much pain
My son has this. He has lost one of his lungs with it. They cant do anything as has learning disabilities . It's just got worse of the years. This is one brave girl. My heart goes out to her.
Thank you for filming your experience! I wish I had someone like you to watch when I went through my Harrington's rod surgery at 13. I am 33 now and have little to no limitations w/my back. Just watching you're videos make me cry at times because it brought back a lot of feelings. Those surgeries are not the least bit minor or easy and you rocked it like a champ girl!! Sending love and prayers your way from Washington state. You are a bright light in this world so shine on 🌟🌟
How many people watching this have scoliosis too Edit: it sucks that I think a lot of people in the comments including me are young and already have to start worrying about back problems
@@sheeransstardust8130 I remember getting diagnosed I noticed something was off when I was really little (round 8) but didn't actually check a doctor until I was 14 and when I first heard it really sucked I hope you're okay
@@savagerose3077 that's amazing I was diagnosed at 13 and I was a 33 they told me my bones were fully matured (grown) and that it wouldn't get worse now by the end of 10th grade I realised of course people can get worse gravity over time pushes everyone down (for example old people becoming shorter with age) and if anyone for example put let's say... A heavy backpack over 15lbs over there back it will ruin their posture (increasing natural effects from gravity) if they do it everyday with or without scoliosis. Some doctors say the foggiest things and maybethey dont believe in n some things or don't know everything or maybe they just weren't clear in informing their patient but I definitely need a better check up again I can't do anything about it geting worse in the future with old age but in my youth I can keep my posture strong and let my muscles around my core and spine grow to help support my spine holding better posture to correct a bit...
My daughter has had the surgery several times. Three rods broke and were protruding through the skin and we had to remove them. Steel does break even though they tell you it can't happen. We are holding off further surgery and just monitoring the curve. Her curve is 65 degrees but Docs prefer to hold off considering what she already experienced. Hey everyone. I had this surgery when I was 14 (back in 2001). I stumbled across this video by chance and just want to give everyone who came to this channel bc they were preparing for their own surgery some insight on what it was like for me and how the subsequent 20 years went. Take it for what it is and remember I’m not a doctor So like I said, I was 14. I have two Harrington rods. Fused from the middle of my shoulder blades to my last two discs in my lower back. As far as recovery, from what I gather the technology is much better now. I was in the hospital for a few weeks, then a hotel room for another few weeks before I was well enough to fly home. From what I remember, I was pretty much 100% a year later and even started snowboarding again. The psychological aspect was probably the worst. I missed a semester is school in 8th grade and was home by myself for months (this might be why I empathize so much with kids dealing with stay at home orders). Make sure you plan social activities and try to keep a schedule or you will lose your mind staying up till 4 am watching tv and eating trash food. As a boy, I was super worried about not being able to play sports and roughhouse. I thought I would be made of glass. Luckily that’s not the case. I was able to keep snowboarding, became a professional athlete in a highly physical but very obscure sport, had 4 amateur boxing matches, and now compete in bjj and train mma for fun. Check with your doctor, but you are not made of glass. Just be smart and weigh the risks. My suggestions would be plan for the surgery. Get in shape, strength train, lose weight, eat right, etc. it will help with the recovery. Take the physical therapy seriously. It will save you. Stay fit and healthy and keep your back strong. If anyone has any more specific questions you can dm me or respond here. Hopefully this was helpful. Oh and parents-make sure you take care of yourselves too. I think In the end it was much harder for my parents than it was for me-which says a lot.
I actually had surgery on my left knee (long story), so I know how it feels. So glad you're doing better! You took it nice and slow, and we're all very proud of you! We love you, Jules! Also, you are SO LUCKY to have danced with Kenzie Ziegler!

I just found your view so I don't know what's going on other than you just had some type of surgery. Girl your doing great. It gets a little worse before it gets better, but girl your a trooper and a strong cutie.
I was told to not pull with my arms at all. why are they pulling her arms like that. It must be more painful. The way I was told to get up was to do it on my side?

Watching this again I just got finished watching the surgery blogs of Julia’s and I have honestly like in some ways I think I can relate or I can basically relate to what she went through because I have needed to have surgeries in the past and it’s not fun so yeah
My sister did this surgey in 97. She was 15 and i remember her struggling. I also have scoliosis and i wore a back brace for 3.5 yrs (23 hrs a day) its not easy
This brought back a lot of difficult memories, 12 years ago I had surgery for scoliosis at 14 years old. I had two curves, the top was 68 degrees to the right and the bottom was 37 degrees to the left; my spine was corrected top to bottom.
68 degrees???? Was that anyhow managable to control pain? I think I had 11 degrees last year, probably higher number this year. Looking forward to seeing doctors soon
@@spyther6385 In all honesty, the only time I wasn’t experiencing pain was while I was sleeping. Have you tried pilates? It could possibly help with your curvature especially if it’s still only at 11 degrees.
I had major surgery when I was 16 I was so scared n nerves it's scary thinking bout back surgery but as soon as I turn 16 it was a must I had it thank God everything is good lots of years ago n I had to have 2 rodes in my back praise God everything is still good may God bless u
Well done for going through all that Julia. Watched all the Vlogs of you in the hospital. It looks as though those nurses looked after you real well. Hopefully the next time you go it will be much more fun

My son went through t2-L3 fusion 2 weeks ago and he is already up and about. He went from 4-5 pain pills a day to 1 at night for sleep in a little over a week. First week was so brutal though.
Hey! Im 13 and i just got the surgery July 15th. my curve was almost 70°, pretty sure its 18° now, i was 5'1 pre surgery then 5'3 post surgery. You have nothing to be worried about, i do personally have a very high pain tolerance so the recovery was super easy for me. And right before the surgery they just make u change into the hospital gown, draw your blood, give you some meds (loopy drug and i cant remember what the other one was for) and they gave me a heated blanket. up until 5 minutes of taking the medicine i was completely loopy and i cant remember anything past that. when you wake up youll barely be able to open your eyes until after 3 mins or so? theyll put you in your room and you will most likely be out for the rest of the day. (you will be on so many different meds that you'll probably not feel that much pain, i personally barely felt any) when it is night time though they will need to reposition you every 2 hours which can get annoying, then in the morning they have to take your blood. Now, speaking bathroom-wise, the catheter in you will automatically just suck out urine, so if u feel like you have to pee just tell your nurse because the tube is probably kinked or positioned wrong. for going poop, its gonna be HELLA weird but youll be fine, they have to put water in your butthole like a shot and a shit ton of laxatives 😭 (try not to kick the nurse) and then you might hsve to use the bathroom like 10 mins later. you arent allowed to use the actual toilet until a couple days after from where my hospital was so they brought in like a nursing home toilet which was super easy to use lmao (YES THE NURSE WILL HAVE TO WIPE U ITS SUPER AWKWARD BUT I PROMISE THEYVE SEEN WORSE!!) ive also forgot to mention that sitting up for the first time will make you feel super dizzy and lightheaded. (they make u sit up after 1-2 days of sitting down all day) and you will definitely want to be walking as soon as possible, it feels great just to sit in their reclining chair. 3 weeks post op and im walking, sleeping, sitting in no pain. AND MAKE SURE TO DO UR PT EXERCISES!!! im so sorry this is a really long paragraph ☹️ good luck though! 💞💞

You were awesome throughout not one but two unimaginably painful surgeries. No matter what happened, you never stopped smiling, or shall I say, the bright smile never left you, a true role model for all of us!💪
Hope you are all better by now, and are stronger, livelier and happier person you had ever been! 🤗
When I saw this vdo I suddenly remembered the pain I suffered but now it feels like a good dream with love and pain . But don't be scared if anyone is going to do the scoliosis surgery when the pain heals , when you get the perfect body shape at that moment you'll be the happiest one ever
I also had scoliosis surgery. I got courage from you. Thank you🇯🇵😊
I just found your view so I don't know what's going on other than you just had some type of surgery. Girl your doing great. It gets a little worse before it gets better, but girl your a trooper and a strong cutie.
Everybody has to pray for Julia because she is sick 🤒 We love 💗 Julia she is a beautiful dancer 💃
It broke my heart seeing cry baby and I could not do anything 😭😭😭. Love you 😘😘😘
You’re so brave Julia. You’re way more brave than I could ever be.
Well done julia!!! You r such a brave and inspiration girl, u should be very proud!!!
I was told to not pull with my arms at all. why are they pulling her arms like that. It must be more painful. The way I was told to get up was to do it on my side?
Emotional video sis 😇 but I understood completely with what u were going threw I have been threw it so many times & its always the same I got emotional so many times over the silliest and simplistic things looking back now it makes me laugh and smile 😊 but I know that all through times I went threw each surgery I became stronger & that's how I became the person I am today 💕🇦🇺🎤♿️🕊️✌️😘😇 love kayla
Hi Julia. After watching your dancing routine at Britain Got Talent. They were amazing. Your team were touching me. I wish get well real soon. You are such a strong girl. I know you can go through this. Keep it up!! Amazing and strongest girl I ever seen.
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us! It means so much to me because I can better prepare myself. I'm wondering what you use to edit your videos please? Again, thank you so much!
0:38 broke my heart to see you like that ❤ i love you so so much
Bethy oh ik
I have scoliosis, too. ..I'm having decompression and fusion of the lumbar spine in a couple of months. I hope I can be as brave as you are
so proud of you! your so inspiring. love you❤️❤️
Watching this again I just got finished watching the surgery blogs of Julia’s and I have honestly like in some ways I think I can relate or I can basically relate to what she went through because I have needed to have surgeries in the past and it’s not fun so yeah
*watching high school musical while getting weighed* 😂
So proud of you girl 💜💜💜
My sister did this surgey in 97. She was 15 and i remember her struggling. I also have scoliosis and i wore a back brace for 3.5 yrs (23 hrs a day) its not easy
I has my surgery 6 months ago and oh my goodness the first week was literal hell, wonder what ill be like once a year has passed
My son had both 2 weeks ago. T2-L3
I had major surgery when I was 16 I was so scared n nerves it's scary thinking bout back surgery but as soon as I turn 16 it was a must I had it thank God everything is good lots of years ago n I had to have 2 rodes in my back praise God everything is still good may God bless u
This reminds me so Much of my spinal fusion
Tilly morris same 2 months ago...💞

Well done girl you are very brave . Keep up looking after your self , it will pay off for your adult hood. Bless you .
Not many people get the pain from just sitting up after spinal surgery , this honestly made me want to cry because I get you 100%
Tilly Morris honestly, having my 3rd surgery August 28th
Well done for going through all that Julia. Watched all the Vlogs of you in the hospital. It looks as though those nurses looked after you real well. I’ve been in hospital twice in the USA for medical emergencies and the doctors and nurses were great. Thank god for insurance 🤭 what did you think of the small bit of America you saw? Hopefully the next time you go it will be much more fun
Good girl Julie I was crying watching that lysmmmm xx❤️❤️😭
Stay strong Julia we love you💜💜
How long after surgery were you allowed to eat again? Did you not eat at all in the post OP days? Were you getting GTube fed or no nutrition at all? No wonder you were always dizzy!

I feel her pain! May you heal from this without more surgery! You are so brave!!
not trying to be rude (you’re amazing!) but i was wondering why your eyes went puffy after the surgery? 💜
Helen Seymour *It could be a lack of sleep, I had the same when I had all my surgeries, scoliosis and more, I don’t really know why they go puffy*
I think it's from all the drugs and medications they give you

I'm guessing it's the anesthetic.
My son went through t2-L3 fusion 2 weeks ago and he is already up and about. He went from 4-5 pain pills a day to 1 at night for sleep in a little over a week. First week was so brutal though.
You are so strong, brave and beautiful

Julia i hope you are doing great now after 2 years!
I'm 12 and getting this surgery soon. As of now, I hate what I will have to go through.
Now, speaking bathroom-wise, the catheter in you will automatically just suck out urine, so if u feel like you have to pee just tell your nurse because the tube is probably kinked or positioned wrong. for going poop, its gonna be HELLA weird but youll be fine, they have to put water in your butthole like a shot and a shit ton of laxatives 😭 (try not to kick the nurse) and then you might hsve to use the bathroom like 10 mins later. you arent allowed to use the actual toilet until a couple days after from where my hospital was so they brought in like a nursing home toilet which was super easy to use lmao (YES THE NURSE WILL HAVE TO WIPE U ITS SUPER AWKWARD BUT I PROMISE THEYVE SEEN WORSE!!)
ive also forgot to mention that sitting up for the first time will make you feel super dizzy and lightheaded. 💞💞
