Within a month on a statin I was on the floor. Could not get up. Back spasms. I’m a petite 70 year old woman and suffered the absolute worst experience of my life. I had to fall to the floor off the toilet to get up. I crawled for a week. Disgusting drug and my Dr is history to me.

I have been taking Atorvastatin, aka: AtorvaSatan for almost a year. I was first prescribed 40mg daily. Within 2 months are had terrible unfamiliar back pain. I flew to Thailand and back and probably stood for 75% of the flight.
After a lipid test in early October showed my cholesterol to be critically low, I started backing off. By December I was taking 10mg 3-4x a week, and my back pain was nearly gone. By the new year it was forgotten.
Fast forward to April this year. I fired my cardiologist who had refused to discuss lowering the statin and never followed up with me on the lipid test.
My new cardiologist came as a reference from my new functional medicine doctor. I told him what I had done and why. He was afraid my cholesterol would be too high (his concern, not mine). He asked me to take 20mg Daily for the next few weeks and then take another lipid test.
I agreed, but in a little over a week the back pain came back.
I took the lipid test and immediately went back to my statin routine. That was a few days ago, and my back is still killing me.
By the way, my lipid results were great according to the cardiologist. But I want my ldl higher.

Sorry to hear about your symptoms- I'd highly recommend following up with the doctor who prescribed the medication before making any alterations!

Can I ask how long it took for the lower back pain to go? I was on them for one week and tomorrow will be one week since I stopped them. Only time I ever had lower back pain like this was in childbirth.

@@JasmineWilliams-ms7ntit varies per person. I developed back pain in 2 months at the doctor’s prescribed level. I continued for another two months before deciding to reduce the dosage on my own. Six months in from initially starting the statins, I was taking 1/4 the prescribed dosage 3-4x a week. My back pain was mostly gone. A month later, I didn’t remember it. About a month ago my new cardiologist convinced me to double what I was taking daily, and every day for a few weeks before a lipid test. He was afraid my cholesterol would be too low. I did so, but within a week was having major back pain. I did the test and am now back to my routine again. I’ve heard some people say in statin discussion groups that they had permanent damage.

Stay in your lane - crack backs and follow the science that 20 minutes later the muscles will overpower your “adjustment” and pull thing back out of “alignment”
