    The first upward stroke along the corner, your brush flicked (or the tip of bristles) the ceiling. A easy fix
    Great brush techniques.
    The guy that taught me, also added the little harder to see until your shown closely, fine detail of how the leading edge has a slight bead of paint that is your guiding edge.
    Keeping that edge, (I think it’s called surface tension in a more technical jargon) makes it work.
    Because my hands are actually pretty unsteady, I’m always surprised that I can actually still get good results. As for your ‘wiggle’ technique, I think that’s something I developed because of my unsteady hand.
    I can’t write or throw a ball with either hand, but I am ambidextrous when it comes to painting.
    Now if I could only learn to enjoy it.

    Great job with this video - I now have the patience and time to do this myself - mostly to save money- I’ve done all of my painting in my houses before and did a great job but had to tape everything and now I’m older and bolder and I’m no longer under a weekend time crush or in a hurry and that’s a great thing when you ve got a lot of painting to do- I appreciate that you mentioned training new people- you gave me confidence- thank you

    It helps a lot when you caulk the corners too you can get a nice cut in line and also when you dip your brush you brush right below the ceiling to get most of the excess paint off and makes your brush glide better to cut in

    My dad was a professional new construction house painter with several builder he worked for. He took all us kids to work and taught us to paint. Me and my sister right along with our brothers. I was a new construction painter for 38 years. We never ever used painters tape. Daddy would have died. We free handed all trim work. I can trim in a ceiling almost with my eyes shut.

    I noticed that you're doing what appears to be a 4-5 inch deep cut-line. That's a very wise move on your part! Personally, I like a cut-lune that's at least that deep, and I'll actually use a 5-6 inch cut-line.. just to be sure that I don't bump against the ceiling. I've tried thinner cut-lunes before...and believe me, Brother, it just doesn't work for me. I've ended up getting paint on the ceilings with thinner cut-lines, and to have to go back, and touch up the ceilings in that kind of a scenario, is time-consuming, as you well know.
    You've actually given me two new ideas, as to how to do cut-lines...and I thank you very much for that.
    Have a great day!

    • @ayubbuildingconsultants
      @ayubbuildingconsultants ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi ! Thank you for asking. If you are painting both the ceilings and the walls, then ceilings are always painted first. Both the coats of ceiling paint are done first then we move onto the walls and paint the two coats on the walls.

  • @dreid4760
    @dreid4760 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, you are cutting in the whole room prior to rolling? Usually, you cut in one wall, then roll that wall before it drys and then move onto the next wall. You will have brush marks above and below windows and above the doors. Use a small roller to eliminate brush marks. P.S., you are cutting in the wall not the ceiling.

    • @aussie8114
      @aussie8114 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can brush the whole room first if you want. Depends on the colour and rolling technique.

    This is just a general overview of painting right below ceiling. Can't really see him cutting in. Cam has to focus on the brush and how he control while doing it. I needed detail hands-on demo.

    • @michaelwpaulin4876
      @michaelwpaulin4876 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Best way to get the details you say you need is to wet a brush.
      Angle brushes have a
      ‘Chisel point’ to them.
      Pretty hard to screw up too bad if you just ease up to ceiling line.
      Not really Rocket Science!!

      Start by practicing in your closets. Nobody will ever see if your cut in lines are straight in the closet. When I train new painters, I always have them painting closets before they graduate to other rooms.

    So if I want to learn how to paint a ceiling, cut in the ceiling, I should look for cutting in wall paint.

  • @aussie8114
    @aussie8114 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tip: You don’t need to brush down six inches. Brush down a couple of inches then before rolling the wall run your roller horizontally up around the top.
    Second tip: when choosing a dark colour be mindful it will appear darker once all the wall is painted compared to judging it on a small colour chip.

    Cutting ceilings against a stipple or texture is easy

  • @tomlapham5532
    @tomlapham5532 หลายเดือนก่อน

    But we don't get to see the picture framing and lap marks you must get from cutting it all in first and talking all the way through it. I cut and roll at the same time feathering my cut lines down the wall and rolling up into the cut as close to the ceiling as possible. Twenty six years of painting and never had a lap mark or framing nor any complaints.
    Too many of these videos show how to cut in fast or how to paint a wall in 60 seconds. More often than not you're not seeing good results.
    Brushing such a wide section above the window like that makes no sense. I've used 7" rollers for years and with them you can get above and between more windows and doorways and brushing such a wide area you're going to get a different look and texture with a brush than a roller that you're using on the rest of the walls.
    He's so fast and great at cutting at 3:06 he kissed the ceiling in the corner cutting down where the two walls meet. Speed or quality work....you decide what you want.
