Well, to us westerners Mrs Jaffrey surely is the Mother we learnt Indian food from for decades… and today I learnt a new thing as soon as she started speaking…❤❤❤
This is one of the most heartwarming videos I’ve ever seen. Also, I relate so much to Madhur Jaffrey’s “in the zone” listening style. I don’t hear anyone while I’m busy cooking in the kitchen.
Respectfully, I feel like this was the most awkward interaction between two very talented chefs, I don't think that Priya picked up on Madhur's difficulty in hearing her, and continued peaking to her from a distance. I love the recipes, thank you to them both for sharing.
I could listen to Madhur Jaffrey all day. She really is a living legend. As for this Priya, she does not soak her dal? How hard is it to put some lentils into a bowl of water before going to bed? Sheesh!
I've lived in India for some months and travelled around. My dhal is made with red lentils, a few cloves of garlic, chopped tomato, turmeric, ginger, a little garam masala, and enough water so that it reduces as the lentils thicken, season with salt and black pepper. Half an hour and it's ready to eat with rice and naan.
Is anyone going to mention that Priya’s daal was crazy dry? It looked like it was stuck to the pressue cooker and she was scraping it off the bottom with her spoon!
I'm a long time fan of Madhur Jaffrey and have only recent discovered Priya Krishna. What a lovely show they could make together! They should consider doing a project together. Maybe a traditional and modern take on various dishes.
Masur jaffry is SUPERB, SHE IS MOTHER CHEF FOR INDIAN COOKING I LOVE HER,THE WAY SHE TEACHES YOU COOKING HER DAAL IS SO GOOD AND ALL HER OTHER DISHES I'M SORRY PRIYA BUT YOU DIDN'T ADD ENOUGH WATER TO YOUR DAAL IT WAS ALL STUCK IN THE INSTANT POT AND YOU WERE SCRAPPING IT OUT HOPE TO SEE YOU BOTH AGAIN,ENJOYED WATCHING THE SHOW
Priya is just mediocre NRI cook who has learnt one or two things about indian food to show off.... Everywhere she uses her one word chhonk.. Though perfect person for making bland, butchered Westernised version of indian food for those bland taste buds out there in US
Madhur Jaffery belonged to rich home back in India and actually never cooked food but when she moved to London after marriage, she got bored eating bland tasteless British food, she decided to cook and became master in it One time for her coriander chicken recipei was broadcasted and after then wholeachaster ran put of Coriender leaves.
This is badly produced, and feels like a missed opportunity. It looks like they didn’t rehearse this at all, and for a live show this is super critical. I was surprised at Priya’s lack of basic knowledge. She should know the difference between split and whole dal. Madhur is super-focused on own thing, and their conversations lack flow.
I feel its also because they have little in common. Madhur is a self-made, legend in the kitchen. Priya seems almost like a nepo baby and having very little skills in the kitchen.
Priya’s pronounciation of Madhur sounds like Mother. If Indian origin persons can’t say Indian names right, I don’t expect anyone else to 🙄🙄🙄 Her effort truly is Indian-ish, not actually Indian
“So there’s whole urad and urad dal, which is split. In this recipe I’m using whole urad dal.” Wtf? I’m not confused at all. And Madhur Jaffrey is NOT Priya’s mother. She just over pronounced her D’s to sound like “TH” - I was initially confused until she started saying her family eats THAL every night. Also I’ve watched Madhur Jaffrey for years and she never included a daughter cook in anything.
Pronunciation around the world is fascinating to me. To my American ear, when Madhur Jaffrey says her own name at 19:40 it sounds just like "mother" to me.
I have now seen two TH-cam videos where Ms. Jaffrey states that India is the size of Europe. Please stick to the things you know well, like cooking. People with large platforms should take care not to spread misinformation.
Sadly Priya has no idea what shes doing in the indian kitchen. I'm an american living in India cooking Indian food for 15 years. I know far more than her...who ruins a dahl on live TV next to Madhur? She seems to only want clout, behaves a bit like a nepo baby, she isn't the real deal. This is not even mentioning what disrespect was shown to Madhur...absurd..
Priya doesn’t even know how to be respectful towards older people. She is obnoxious and laughing at everything bc she obviously is unintelligent and not Madhur’s time. Priya is calling her own mom a maniac on TV, just goes to show how pathetic her upbringing is and how unevolved she is. Also her daal looks like prison mush unlike Madhur’s delicate delicacy of a daal 😍
What a shame to put this mediocre cook to madhur jafry.. she is type of NRI(NON RESIDENT INDIAN) Who has learnt one or two things about indian food to show off everywhere.. somebody has taught her 'chhonk'(word she thinks sounds very exotic).. now she uses that in every freaking recipe and almost in 70% her TH-cam video ...her book indian-ish what a lame indian recipes (butchered Westernised version of indian food for bland taste buds)...there are very great indian chefs out there in US.. new york times has lowered prestige of platform
Every time Priya says Madhur, I hear Mother 🙄😂
I thought she says Mother only 🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely, I felt the same until I read ur message 😅
I thought it was Priya’s mother! 😂
ABCDs 🙄
Well, to us westerners Mrs Jaffrey surely is the Mother we learnt Indian food from for decades… and today I learnt a new thing as soon as she started speaking…❤❤❤
Great to see Mahdur Jaffrey on stage,
She is the Julia Child of Indian cooking
Or is Julia Child the Mahdur Jaffrey of French cooking? 😉
Can't believe they zoomed in for so long on Priya trying to salvage her botched dal stuck to the pot omg
This is one of the most heartwarming videos I’ve ever seen. Also, I relate so much to Madhur Jaffrey’s “in the zone” listening style. I don’t hear anyone while I’m busy cooking in the kitchen.
this is such a good duo. why isn't this an entire show??
Respectfully, I feel like this was the most awkward interaction between two very talented chefs, I don't think that Priya picked up on Madhur's difficulty in hearing her, and continued peaking to her from a distance. I love the recipes, thank you to them both for sharing.
I could listen to Madhur Jaffrey all day. She really is a living legend. As for this Priya, she does not soak her dal? How hard is it to put some lentils into a bowl of water before going to bed? Sheesh!
You have to know you’ll want it the next day though. If you just get in the mood for dal then you’ve gotta deal with it
Thank you for this warm conversation. It made my evening in Sweden. Thank you Priya and Madhur.
Bay leaves in Hindi is called teej patta!! Javitri is called Mace in English. 2 very different spices
It is very common to mix the names. Especially for people who don't use names in the Hindi or local languages.
Bay Leaf is Tej Patta in Hindi. Javitri is Mace :)
Priya, I love your recipes and all your videos! I just ordered your book! Can’t wait to try them!
I've lived in India for some months and travelled around. My dhal is made with red lentils, a few cloves of garlic, chopped tomato, turmeric, ginger, a little garam masala, and enough water so that it reduces as the lentils thicken, season with salt and black pepper. I guess she should have soaked the dal.
You can make thick porridgy daals, although Priya's got stuck to the bottom it wasn't dry, just very creamy.
Thats why she start to eating alone disrespectfully, so that she could finish before anyone could see 😂
I'm a long time fan of Madhur Jaffrey and have only recent discovered Priya Krishna. What a lovely show they could make together! They should consider doing a project together. Maybe a traditional and modern take on various dishes.
Absolutely delightful watching these two together.
they are so sweet together… beautiful cooperation between the generations
I'm super glad I'm getting my regular prescribed dose of Sohla content, but I really wish Priya was more active.
It's me. I'm from the future. Your wish has been granted. 😁
When she said- You just put it in water and next day, its soaked!! 😂😂
People speaking while Madhur Jeffrey is talking. Get out. Just leave.
This building sounds like an open area
Madhur's dal looks amazing. Butter, cream, ghee and crisp onions for the win
Priya's Dal is AMAZING!! I was shocked by how delicious just a few simple ingredients could be.
Bland recipe..madhur's recipe is quite good though
Masur jaffry is SUPERB, SHE IS MOTHER CHEF FOR INDIAN COOKING
I LOVE HER,THE WAY SHE TEACHES YOU COOKING
HER DAAL IS SO GOOD AND ALL HER OTHER DISHES
I'M SORRY PRIYA BUT YOU DIDN'T ADD ENOUGH WATER TO YOUR DAAL
IT WAS ALL STUCK IN THE INSTANT POT AND YOU WERE SCRAPPING IT OUT

Gotta love Madhur Jaffrey!
I love this lady
@12:15 I think bayleaf is not javitri or jayatri (which is nutmeg), it is baepata, or tejpata in hindi. :) :) But amazing amazing show
Priya is so genuine.
God bless Madhur Jaffrey.
Jaivitri is mace. Indian bay leaf is tej patta.
Bay leaf == Tej Patta
Javitri == Mace
Madhur Jaffery belonged to rich home back in India and actually never cooked food but when she moved to London after marriage, she got bored eating bland tasteless British food, she decided to cook and became master in it
One time for her coriander chicken recipei was broadcasted and after then wholeachaster ran put of Coriender leaves.
Bay leaf is tej patha in hindi
Good to see Madhur Jaffrey I love her recipes
What a delightful pair ❤️
This is badly produced, and feels like a missed opportunity. It looks like they didn’t rehearse this at all, and for a live show this is super critical.
I was surprised at Priya’s lack of basic knowledge. She should know the difference between split and whole dal.
Madhur is super-focused on own thing, and their conversations lack flow.
Along with the overall awkwardness, 10:50 especially stood out to me. Pretty funny, but they could’ve flowed better
I feel its also because they have little in common. Madhur is a self-made, legend in the kitchen. Priya seems almost like a nepo baby and having very little skills in the kitchen.
Javitri is skin of nutmeg. Bayleaf is a leaf.
indian bay leaf is not javitri, it's called tej patta ...
Love !
Ok, i wondered why Priya kept calling Madhur 'mother'. Then i realised what she was saying
I love you madhur Jeffrey
MJ is lovely to watch. She’s losing her marbles but she’s lovely to watch.
Teaspoon? Tablespoon? Chili, paprika? She's amazing, though. She has the confidence it will all work out.
Considering Madhur was 86 at the time of this show, she is plenty sharp!
Priya, bay leaf in Hindi is :::Tej patta!!!!!!!!!?
I like Priya but she is clearly flustered and intimidated by the presence of Madhur.
Javitri is not bay leave.
Wow madhur is a pro… compared to…
She likes to say thaal
Priya’s pronounciation of Madhur sounds like Mother. If Indian origin persons can’t say Indian names right, I don’t expect anyone else to 🙄🙄🙄 Her effort truly is Indian-ish, not actually Indian
Bit of competition between these two.
Priya not soaking the daal is so western.
I'm western, even I know to soak the dal...she's just clueless in general I feel. Not a professional.
Prius bag leaf in Hindi is Tej patta,,, not javetry!!!!!!!!!
I love this video until I noticed the tape holding her microphone on her face. After that I could only focus of it
“So there’s whole urad and urad dal, which is split. In this recipe I’m using whole urad dal.” Wtf? I’m not confused at all. And Madhur Jaffrey is NOT Priya’s mother. She just over pronounced her D’s to sound like “TH” - I was initially confused until she started saying her family eats THAL every night. Whole here is for "Sabut" I guess!!
Pronunciation around the world is fascinating to me. To my American ear, when Madhur Jaffrey says her own name at 19:40 it sounds just like "mother" to me.
What a Fantastic lady she is Legend love her and food. Kiss Kiss तुम्हें प्यार करता हूं
Indian bay leaf is not javatri, but tej patta and it is actually the leaf of the cinnamon tree
Right about bayleaf being tej patta, but it is not from cinnamon tree. It comes from bay leaf tree, which is its own tree.
Bay Leaf is called Javitri 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️
I have now seen two TH-cam videos where Ms. Jaffrey states that India is the size of Europe. Please stick to the things you know well, like cooking. People with large platforms should take care not to spread misinformation.
Priyas tadka is the saddest thing ever, poor girl. No hate, just saying.
This is not even mentioning what disrespect was shown to Madhur...absurd..
ghee is good on anything, prove me wrong
😢
OH NO... Bay leaf is NOT JAVITRI... Bay leaf is TEJ PATTA in Hindu=i, JAvitri is the Hindi name for MACE
Daal makhani ⚰️
Priya doesn’t even know how to be respectful towards older people. She is obnoxious and laughing at everything bc she obviously is unintelligent and not Madhur’s time. Priya is calling her own mom a maniac on TV, just goes to show how pathetic her upbringing is and how unevolved she is. Also her daal looks like prison mush unlike Madhur’s delicate delicacy of a daal 😍
Couldn't agree more.
1979 mono coffee quiz valid et after death holidays mould awaited male female
Does Madhur need a hearing aid?
What a shame to put this mediocre cook to madhur jafry.. she is type of NRI(NON RESIDENT INDIAN) Who has learnt one or two things about indian food to show off everywhere.. somebody has taught her 'chhonk'(word she thinks sounds very exotic).. now she uses that in every freaking recipe and almost in 70% her TH-cam video ...her book indian-ish what a lame indian recipes (butchered Westernised version of indian food for bland taste buds)...there are very great indian chefs out there in US.. new york times has lowered prestige of platform
Priya’s mum is ❤️. She’s as charming as Priya.
eriko59 - it’s not her mother. She overpronounces her D to sound like TH. The woman’s name is Madhur Jaffrey.
Maiasatara oops. My bad. 😅
My god Priya! It’s MAH-THUR!
I wish I could hear the difference! To my American ear it sounds just like "mother" when Madhur Jaffrey says her own name at 19:40.
Difference between 'er' and 'oor'
