Thank you Professor of Rock for this tribute. Doesn’t matter if it’s rock, country, R&B, or you name it, great music is just simply great music regardless! And Charlie Pride was one of the greatest.

When I was young, my grandmother and I would listen to Charley Pride albums over and over. Her favorite was Charley's recording of Hank Williams' Kaw-Liga. When I heard of Charley's passing, the memories of those times with my grandmother--who passed away 27 years ago--came rushing back. RIP Charley, and thank you for all the memories your music gave me.

Had the same experience when Kenny Rogers past away. My grandmother loved Kenny. She past away over 10 years ago and when I was a kid, my cousin and I would always sing Kenny Rogers songs as we sat in the back seat of the car driving around places. We didn’t sing along to the actual music, it was just the two of us singing, out of key and quite often the wrong lyrics “4 hungry children” was sung “4 hundred children,” we were 10 back then. And never once did she tell us to keep it down or quit singing. She loved both our versions and his.
Great music + great times = Awesome memories. God I love music and Charley and Kenny just as much.

One of my first memories was of Charley Pride singing on Hee-Haw. Funny how I was so blown away by his baritone that I didn't even realize he was the first black country singer until I was 25. What can I say? I'm a little slow on the uptake, sometimes. But watching this brought back a TON of memories of childhood, and now I have this strange lump in my throat and this mist covering my vision. Thanks, Charley. Rest in peace. You've earned it.

Loved Charlie's music and he was an extremely nice gentleman. Had the opportunity to meet him numerous times when I was younger working with my uncle in Dallas TX. What a class act both on stage and in person! RIP Charlie Pride!

My entire childhood revolves around listening to Charley Pride. House sings were a mainstay at our house. I remember his album Christmas In My Home Town, that a friend of ours had. I searched my whole adult life for that record. I finally found it and it's getting played this year.

This is such a great interview with a true legend. I only recently got deeply into country music and discovered Charley's catalogue about 2 years ago. So sad to hear about his passing from something that was probably preventable, first John Prine and now Charley Pride :(. His legacy will live on through his classic songs.

    • @seanswinton6242

I know right! My high school friends introduced me to John Prine in college. I grew up listening to Charley Pride and many Country artists, but some how missed John Prone. I listen to all kinds of music and have over 10,000 CDs that's probably why. Prime Prine was my start. I listened to him a lot over the years. I got the double CD collection when it was released. Both deaths were shocking to me. Charley Pride's passing is yet another of too many bad that has made 2020 truly unforgettable and the worst!

Very true! Charley Pride's success helped Ray Charles for record Country music in spite of his record label objection. Darius Rucker's love of Country music was also inspired by Charley Pride as well. Fortunately Hootie & The Blowfish became massive. The years of their success and tireless touring resulted in easier transition from Rock to Country. Something he always wanted to do forever and he's massively successful there as well. Charley Pride was proud. Thank You Charley Pride for timeless music and an indelible mark on the world!! R.I.P.

As a 5 year old I was tormented by Charlie's Most Beautiful Girl in the World song... waiting for my mom in the car desperately pressing the big silver AM radio buttons on the dashboard trying to hear something else but all the stations played that song... aaaaahhhhh!!!! The only other songs to create similar haunting memories were Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks and Wildfire by Michael Martin Murphey. Just coming to terms with those songs nearly 50 years later haha. But as always... in POR we trust. Fantastic interview. I learned so much. What an amazing career! Condolences to all the Pride family.

Same. Back in the day, my dad had a bunch of his cassettes in his 1977 Chevy K-5 Blazer; we would wear out those cassettes on our way to the grocery stores, camping trips, driving around the city, etc. My favorite tapes were the concerts; he would chat just a bit between songs. He was a great man.

Sent by Angels by Arc Angels 😊 (sort of a double score there with that one! - not to mention one of the finest rock songs and records of its time... super under rated album, would be dandy if POR did a video on Arc Angels one day IMO). Angels by BoDeans. Angels Tonight by Gin Blossoms. Nice one including How Do You Talk To An Angel by Jamie Walters in there. I'm familiar with the track being from the short lived television show The Heights. Ahh... some guilty pleasure cheese right there, in an era with a lot of cheese all over the charts and radio. When Charlie first hit the airways, most people had no idea what color he was. Charlie was just that good. He was a great country singer. I grew up with Charlie, Porter Waggoner, Johnny Cash, Elvis and the Beatles on the radio. For the longest time, what they looked like wasn't nearly as important as what they made me imagine and feel when they sang. So many of the great artists have been leaving this world of late. If there is anything we could learn, it is to seriously give music of any genre a fair listening. What we may hear could change or lives and our outlooks.
