This animated short with closed captioning is a mix of live action and animation of adults with autism describing their experiences with grief and loss. The video, narrated by Emmy-award winning director Jorge Guttierez, won the 2023 Marvels of Media Documentary Short Award.
The short was produced by Hospice Foundation of America and Exceptional Minds Studio, with music created by Spectrum Laboratory, for a collection of videos offered by the Autism & Grief Project.
Exceptional Minds is a nonprofit academy and studio preparing young adults on the autism spectrum for careers in animation, visual effects, 3D gaming and other related fields in the entertainment industry. Exceptional Minds and its partners are building a future where neurodiverse perspectives advance an inclusive hiring culture in the entertainment industry.
Spectrum Laboratory is a nonprofit organization that celebrates neurodiversity and inclusion in the arts. They empower and educate students artists in acting, film, music, voiceover, and animation.
The Autism & Grief Project was made possible by a grant from the NLM Family Foundation to fill the gap of resources available for grieving autistic adults, their family and friends, professional support people, and clergy members.
