I agree, their friendship lasted throughout the years because after the Zander situation, Jason put her in the friend zone with Carly and robin, until 2006. Gh miss the golden opportunity to pair them together. They destroyed Sam/Jason to re-attempt but it was too late. Liz was strong, edgy and loyal they destroyed her character first, then sams. Carly was alway horrible but Carly was redeemed while the other two was tarnished
I think Elizabeth has been redeemed. Also, Elizabeth and Jason did trust each other and she trusted him more then any other man. Jason also never did the stuff that Lucky or Ric pulled. I think she trusted Franco to a point.

How many times has Carly said that she was wrong. It's like please. From the moment she came to Port Charles she's been wrong. All that crying and apologizing after the fact was so pointless. She knew what she was doing she had just thought she would have been able to hide it from Jason. Typical Carly chaos. That's what Spinelli should have called her instead of the Valkyrie. And Elizabeth's tone and even her posture when she saw Carly. She was that bad girl Elizabeth once again. Loved it!

When she feels hurt or angry, she lashes out in the most hurtful way she can. Afterwards, she is truly sorry, but Jason knew that the next time she feels hurt or slighted, she will do the same thing all over again. She would hurt him again and again. He can He knows that although he still loves her, he can never let her have that power over him. And so he decides that they can never be together as anything more than friends. This is why their friendship has endured all these years. He took away Carly’s ability to hurt him.
