As for Hollywood, I read an article where his children spoke out. The Americans wanted to make a movie about him, but they gave the condition that he must change his nationality to Jewish in the movie. His family did not agree to this. The movie wasn't made.

The story would not work if he wass jewish.. first he would later be captured and pretty much killed among the first waves... after completing the crematory. So.... Hollywood, you bastards.

@@ShenLong991 You know, for me as a Polish citizen, it doesn't matter what other nationality they would change him to, then this story would make no sense. He was brought up in a very patriotic way, he did it all for his country. I think they wanted to show a Jewish hero. How American story that would be. Although for anyone who knows the story of Witold Pilecki, it would be like erasing his ideals if they gave him a different nationality.

I totally agree with you, the tone that people use when talking to each other or about another is scary. The dividing among humanity is getting bigger instead of unifying. This is why I think knowing history is so important.
I knew this would be a hard reaction for you to do and...well I would have had a hard time trying to describe what this hero went through.
And here I am crying over this story once again, it's so heartbreaking. We sit here..crying over the pics and stories from the deathcamps, but it's a totally different thing to live in it and to keep on living by just determination.

Even though Sabaton has never done this song live, I think it's lovely how often in interviews they bring up these stories. Joakim especially is an excellent story teller in the short time he has when an interviewer asks for a story behind a song etc. This is one I've seen him talk about often.
I think Indy said somewhere that a big reason he (and the people he does The Great War and Word War Two -channels) and Sabaton are doing what they do is BECAUSE they are anti-war.
They know enough history to understand that it's always horrible, no matter the war.
They all believe that these things need to be talked about and remembered so we can understand how we got to where we are now. That it's important to know these stories, even if only out of respect for the dead. Some people actually were heroes and should be celebrated as such and some were worse than we were ever taught.
The least we can do, is know why and where all the people who shaped our world to what it is now died, suffered and sacrificed.
All the wars shaped our world massively, in good and bad. None of it should be forgotten, white washed, hidden or twisted to suit a narrative. Unfortunately people and goverments have their own agendas...

Unbreakable. Not many could survive as he did and apparently his reports from Auschwitz were hugely important in making the outside world realise what was actually going on in those concentration camps. 'Uprising' would be a great next song to cover as Witold fought in the Warsaw uprising and it helps to show how Poland ended up under a communist government that then executed heroes like Witold. The official music video is excellent and I would also recommend watching their life version from polish Woodstock festival. It's very powerful to hear tens of thousands of poles singing along.

I always cry with this history, its break the heart. And the history around this person. Survive the WWI, the Polish-Soviet war, the german and soviet invasion, Auschwitz, the uprising of the polish vs the germans, and after all of this, he was executed by his countrymen (what a life he have).
Nice reaction and all need to know the history.

Yes, it is scary how people are talking about others nowadays and I hope that love and respect will win before we end up with horrors like this again. Quite rightly that Witold was vindicated and is a hero in Polish history, wont give him his life back though.

The part that angers me is how he was thrown under the buss so carelessly by the very people he sacrificed so much to save. The sentancing judge was even an auschwitz survivor. Which makes it cut all the more.

Thank you for your opinion about Hollywood :-) I've heard that they wanted to do the movie but first the Pilecki's family should sign that he was Jewish. Thet's definitely not true.
The Shindler's List a great movie but there are some moments there where the Poles are shown that they hate Jews. In reality, the Poles are the biggest number of people who risked their lives to save Jews. There is a Netflick Polish actors film Pilecki. I haven't seen it yet, maybe it's good but I'm also suspicious ...

Yeah, it's easier to be pissed off by King Joffrey in Game of Thrones than take in a story like this. But not we know hos name and remember it. A real hero; Witold Pilecki
And I probably spelled his name terribly wrong, not of disrespect

I now think.. for the most part, why storys like about Mr. Pilecki (i certainly have mistyped the name terribly wrong, not for disrespect, just because of not knowing enough) won't be in hollywood put into major films are, that those are real things that happened. People in general want to be entertained by their TVs not put into perspective and need to think about major events. Yes you may have sad dystopic movies like The Hunger Games or happy "based on real events" oversimplificated and exaggerated like Hogans Heros, but a real event that is sometimes over the imaginations set by authors in hollywood like Inmate 4859 is something that would not work. Because it really would put the people to think about it. You cant have made it happy or sci-fi enough to not make it thoughtful. Even Schindlers Liste, tried to put the story in front and move the whole "it's history baby" in a foot-note in the credits. So that the major cinema visitors are already moved away from the seats and dont look too closely into it.
And also would hollywood change the story... for reasons unknown and make most of the story untrue by nature.
(Making Pilecki jewish is like throwing him again under the bus in the first waves of crematoried people inside auschwitz)
    just my 3ct here.

First of all, in case someone accuses me of being anti-Semitic, I'd like to say I support Israel's struggle for existence in the Middle East. That said, there is nobody in Hollywood or Netflix that will do a movie about Witold Pilecki, because people can't be aware of the fact that during the first two years of Auschwitz, the only prisoners there were Poles, Hungarians and Russians. The official story must remain that only Jews were being murdered in that concentration camp by the Nazis. In fact, there are voices claiming Poles built camps for Jews between World War I and World War II, which is total bullshit. Between 1918 and 1939, Jews in Poland were celebrated as actors, singers and owned many businesses. So, Schindler's list part 2, it's not happening.
