It really makes me wonder how the hell did he go from painting beautiful scenery to the abstract style, like, what was he thinking? Did he think, I know the rules now I'm going to break them just to see what would happen?

I think the painting you ascribed to Gabriele Monte is actually Kandinsky's "Landscape near Murnau with Locamotive (1909)"
Is that a multi person gallows on the hill behind on Improvisation II St Petersbourg or just people standing in a line ?
