IBM still has a long way to go to even catch up with free and open-source tools like Cline and Aider. Aider + free/unlimited APIs like Mistral or Gemini Experimental is just so good it hard to beat.
I used chat gbt and claude to write my code but then I had to go back and learn what every single line of code did and make changes because it didn't work completely right. Nice to have a big brother tutor.
I have been doing the same lately. learning more about machine learning by having chatgpt and claud produce examples. I find its making me a bit lazy. its much faster to get answer and results, but reading the code is like reading someone elses code, it takes time to familiarize yourself with it. Where code I write myself, I barely read through it its all sort of memorized, and updating and expanding it is much faster/easier.
Software engineers can perform their jobs more efficiently with these AI tools. The good thing is that many of these tools are still evolving, and when you actually start using them, you will realize they come with their own set of new challenges. While demos always work seamlessly, real deep development often presents complexities that only a smart, experienced professional can handle. These tools empower such professionals to overcome those challenges, much like how the automotive industry revolutionized traditional systems.
This is for those who know how to program. If you don't know how to use a language. Coding assistant cannot help you because even if it write a code for you. You won't be able to make any sense out of it.
As mentioned by others down below, what about the accuracy of the code generated? How much corrections and/or additions are needed to get from some initial (AI generated) code to fully and correctly functioning code?
I always wondered what happened to Watson, I knew they don't give it for free. But i wonder if mixing it with LLM multiply posibilties or LLM surpassed it long ago
code code will be almost like binary.. soon. But you'll have to sit on top of the AI and describe what you want and know how to put it together. I can do amazing things with code... work freely with it.. do anything I want really. Not because I have been coding for 20 years.. but because I know enough and use AI as it is today.
Just learn how to code and understand what is going on properly, anybody who relies on AI to write code (do their job) is not doing themselves any favours in the long term. It is another case of the dumbing down of the world.

I mean if it ain't binary it ain't code, it's just a bunch of words that need to be converted to code. Why dumb down the process at all?
Get started with the IBM watsonx Code Assistant: obvs.ly/tech-with-tim
thx tim for recommending us this assistant

Today this is an assistant tool, tomorrow we will be looking for jobs as assistants.
Hi Tim am getting an error, "contact your administrator"
future: software development became easy task like using Microsoft word

Word is not easy. We're safe
It's a matter of time; these tools are getting better and better, and entry-level positions are becoming obsolete.
how do these assistants handle large projects with say nested components?
As mentioned by others down below, what about the accuracy of the code generated? How much corrections and/or additions are needed to get from some initial (AI generated) code to fully and correctly functioning code?
All of this can be achieved and automated using windsurf or cursor. What does watson have that those dont?
Pretty cool! Looks promising!

You didn't talk about accuracy of code generated.
Impossible to install. Need IBM account, "administrator approval" , ollama installation does not work, huge hassle for nothing.
I love ur videeos and I watch several times
What do you like more? Windsurf or this?

No, AI is replacing jobs all over the place. Many of the jobs are getting consolidated into fewer roles. So it's getting much, much more competitive.
after the trend a new week, a new js framework now its a new week a new AI coding assistant/ide lol
The fact that IBM Watson was launched more than a decade ago... fuck the shit, they were ahead of their time.
It’s ibm so you know it’s gonna cost
Hii I am from india
Bro fell off
what's availble for pycharm?
