Europe based Patrol owners watch out!
We have a different color coding system. If you don't want to use the original green Nissan coolant you'll have to go for the BASF/VW color coding. As you want silicate free coolant for your Patrol, the coolant to choose is the pink one [G12+ (VW), G30 (BASF)].

a really important note here is to check your handbook for the correct coolant to water ratio,in some engine, even a slight increase to book ratio will eat Aluminium and on large diesel engines will eat wet liners.
you can use tap water if you have no other option is fill a 20 lt bucket let it sit for 24hrs so the chlorin boils off.

A very good video on how to flush and replace engine coolant, I should have watched it before I did the job. I’m glad to see that I am not alone in stuffing the head on the 12mm engine coolant drain plug (inaccessible little bugger that it is) currently awaiting a new drain plug from Nissan.
I did the job without removing this drain plug. I flushed the system through with soft tap water several times draining through the radiator. Then flushed through with demineralised water twice before adding the coolant and topping up. I took off for a short drive in between each flush to warm the system up. This makes it a bit more time consuming than draining the block of coolant via the drain plug but there you go.
A less considerate person might think Nissan make the engine coolant drain plug from especially soft metal to confound the home mechanic but I’m not like that!🤔🤣

@@Alex.G These little buggers have to be ordered from Japan and cost around $25. You would think something so basic would be stocked in Oz considering the large number of 3 litre Diesel engine out there.
I managed to get it out during the 120,000 service but stuffed it this time around. Careless bugger!🤪
I was always taught to park the vehicle on a very slight incline so as the front is slightly higher than the rear of the vehicle so as you r filling the coolant and bleeding the system air can escape a little easier..

Excellent video. But I'm having a hard time finding the engine block drain plug on my tb48de engine.
I didn't go through the whole comments if it's commented before, but the coolant does RAISE the boiling point temperature and LOWER the freezing point temperature.
The block drain plug is tight but easy to get off its not that soft, you just needed to tap your socket onto it so it went all the way on.
It has a good amount of head on it to grab.

Great vid! Wouldn't dripping the lower radiator hose release the water from the block?
On this engine the thermostat is on the bottom hose, so unless I dropped the hose with 82 degree water in there, the thermostat would block any flow 🙁
@@Alex.G ah OK I see! So for example, when I drop the bottom hose off my falcon, it would empty the block because my thermostat is up top? Maybe that why my falcon and old Land Cruiser never had a drain plug in the block, because the thermostat is up top so dropping the lower hose releases the water from the block

If my temp gauge goes up but botttom hose stays relatively cool I’d say my thermos is fooked
Nice video. Just did the same process a couple of weeks ago. However, I thought you where supposed to fill up coolant in the expansion tank with the yellow lid and markings for high and low on the tank, and not the one with a pressure cap?

I didn't actually know Nissan did a blue coolant. It's definitely green for most GUs, I would expect it's the same for all GUs but it very well could have changed in later models
