Yes they were.I'm the owner of a 1940 GMC CCKW 353 that has a M2 Browning Anti-Tank Machine Gun with the Turret on top.They did the same thing with Jeeps also,except Jeeps didn't have Turrets at that time.It was a Mandatory thing in the Military.
Yes both closed cabs and later open cabs had ring mounts ,it would have been only a few truck in a convoy that would have them as anti aircraft defence.

Not an option then , just standard diffs it's possible to get stuck even with 6 wheel drive
