Thank you for reacting to this Pentatonix medley of 7 Daft Punk songs. They won their first (of 3) Grammy Award for the arrangement of this medley. They have been together 10 years with only 1 member change. This Bass, Avi, left in 2017 and Matt, became their bass late 2017. The other band members are Kirstie, Scott, Mitch and Kevin. They have hundreds of amazing songs and videos. Anything that you choose to react to next will be great and will be welcomed.
You will definitely enjoy every minute of the ride down this rabbit hole! We Pentaholics will be right there with you! Give a listen to their cover of Imagine. It shows their diversity and what they have in common.

Loved your reaction. If no one has mentioned it yet, they made this video for around $400. Recorded and filmed in Avi's (bass) and Kevin's (beatboxer) kitchen and closet. 🙂
Thank you for the information I did not know that I thought it was filmed in a studio, I absolutely love the effort put in the video for all of us to enjoy.
They do have another EDM type video, an original called Love Again which is the next one to drop after Daft Punk which earned them their 1st Grammy, in 2014. They have something in almost every genre of music including Rap, Christmas (not your grandmas' Christmas music), a Classical piece from The Nutcracker (Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy) which earned them their 2nd Grammy, Christian, iconic classics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine, and even a collaboration with Dolly Parton in Jolene, which won them their 3rd Grammy.
Avi, the bearded guy in the middle, does the bass, the black gentleman does the beatboxing. Sometimes the bass & the beat are in syncopation. Anyway PTX are Awesome😎👌
Something most folks (other than Pentaholics) are unaware of is that the Grammy-winner was completed over the span of one week with a $400 production budget using Avi's (with the beard) closet as their sound-stage.
Just for your enjoyment, check out this song live th-cam.com/video/j_L6LQIMo9M/w-d-xo.html and also as a VIP performance (No mics/in ear's) th-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/w-d-xo.html. YES, they are that good!
Avi Kaplan is a basso profundo with classical training who has been known to blow out speakers during live performances with his low notes. The beatboxer for the group is Kevin (with the visor because his eyes could not tolerate the blue lenses) who is also a tenor with perfect pitch, plays the cello (see their "Radioactive" cover with Lindsey Sterling), and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Daft Punk is a duo; this was a 7-song mashup medley. After losing their recording contract within just a few days after winning the Sing Off 3rd season, PTX started their own TH-cam channel and promoting themselves! This Daft Punk video was done in Kevin’s and Avi’s apartment when they all moved to L.A. the audio was recorded in their closet and the video was done in their kitchen! The basic cost was $400 with some extra devoted to editing-and with this they won their 1st Grammy! The extraordinary thing about PTX is the serendipitous way they came together! The Trio-Mitch and Scott and Kirstie-have known each other since they were 10 years old, But Avi met Scott through Ben Bram at USC and Kevin was from Yale and seen beatboxing while playing cello on TH-cam! The five members all met together for the first time 24 hours before their audition! The other extraordinary thing is the makeup of the group! Avi is a basso profundo with a contrabass range; he also does overtone and whistle note singing! Kevin is a classically trained cellist, tenor voice and astounding beatboxer! He has perfect pitch, plays a number of instruments and graduated pre- med from Yale and is fluent in Mandarin-he’s a true genius! Kirstie is a song writer, has appeared on Broadway (Kinky Boots) and is the mezzo soprano in the group. Scott Hoying is the baritone with a huge range and is the most charismatic member. Mitch Grassi (along with Avi) is a real force! Mitch is a true Countertenor! His range is phenomenal, but his ability to convey emotion so eloquently along with his skills of articulation within his tessitura is what makes him so remarkable! All of these sweet, loving people are a gift to the world! They have been singing together for over 11 years, now; they’ve won three Grammys, had 6 BILLION views on TH-cam, number one albums on Billboard 100, multi-platinum album sales, sold-out concert tours-all this being an a cappella group! No other a cappella group has EVER done this before! From 2011 till the present, I as a composer-jazz pianist have never heard anything that was not a miniature masterpiece! This is definitely a rabbit hole you should dive into!
Pentatonix won the televised singing competition the Sing Off the season before Home Free. They were mentors for Home Free. They opened the doors for a capella. This band has an amazing story and you will learn more as you continue down the PTX rabbit hole. The basso profundo is Avi (pronounced Ah-vee) Kaplan and the amazing beat boxer is Kevin Olusola. As already stated, Avi left PTX amicably late 2017 and he has a brilliant solo career. He lives in Nashville as does Tim Faust with Home Free and they are friends. Avi was a featured singer in the Ring of Fire video with Home Free. This Daft Punk video was the first Grammy win for PTX. They have 3 Grammy wins in their earlier years. Please react to Hallalujah, Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine next. Great reaction!!!
@@perthyren601 Sorry you think that. I wasnt lying and your comment as such was offensive. I believe PTX made a huge impact and I've seen other similar comments. You don't have to agree just be kind please.
Fellow Pentaholics?...he's one of us now. 😎👍 It's called a noise gate. It's a dynamics application when mixing down. It regulates how fast the microphone comes to complete silence. That said, they don't arrange and record anything they can't duplicate live.
PTX also has an original a capella EDM song you might like - Love Again. They put it out after Daft Punk so the theme of the video is very similar, but it is just as impressive. Avi with the beard is, indeed, the bass 🤣 He is an opera-trained basso profundo, but since he left the group in 2017 he is performing solo in the folk/singer songwriter genre. He did a collaboration with Home Free, too. The groups have been friendly since Home Free was on the 4th season of The Sing-Off. Pentatonix won the 3rd season and the groups met when PTX came back to do a guest performance and "mentor". PTX's current bass, Matt, is a Berklee School of Music graduate and also extremely extremely talented. Can't wait for you to see more and experience what the others are also capable of! They are all amazing in their own right and extremely unique voices. It's crazy that the trio (Scott, the blond, Kirstin and Mitch, the brunet) all happened to grow up together. They picked up Avi and Kevin, the beatboxer, specifically to compete on the show. They celebrated their 10 year anniversary as a group in June.
Great reaction!! It is so much fun to watch someone discover the wonderfulness of Pentatonix! They not only have the musical ability to sing REALLY well, they sing with such passion that it just pulls you in. Everything they sing is fantastic! I would suggest that you react to their videos of "Hallelujah" and for "Bohemian Rhapsody". I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos!
Welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole. It’s very, very deep. I suggest you bring a drink and some snacks. It’s not hyperbole to say PTX are the OG’s of modern a cappella. When they won The Sing Off in 2011, what they were doing with their voices, arrangements, and even performances, was like nothing that had been done before. Shawn Stockman (from Boyz II Men and was one of the judges) said that he thought PTX was sent back from the future to save a cappella and do it in a futuristic way. They quite literally changed the a cappella genre and brought it into the mainstream (even if it is still on the outer edges of it). They are the platinum standard up to which other a cappella groups are held, and I am sure you’re going to thoroughly enjoy your journey getting to know them.
More PTX please. These guys are simply the best. They will amaze again and again. Check out their Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, Sound of Silence,Mad World, Say Something. They do originals and covers.
Avi (bass guy) and Tim from Home Free are actually good friends. Avi sings with HF on their cover of "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. I love that cover - the two basses make it exceptional!
Home Free and Voiceplay competed on the Sing Off together and have remained friends. Geoff and Layne have done song arrangements for our boys in Home Free. I just love that they all get along and share. You don’t see that a lot in the music industry!

Not sure if someone else has told you, but they made this clip in the kitchen of one of their flats. Hiya! @5:47 you mention "my dude in the middle" - that's Avi Kaplan, and he sings Bass and some sound effects. Next to him at the right is Kevin Olusola, and HE is the beatboxer (who occasionally also sings with them).
I don't know if you are into 90's dance medelies or not, but if you are, Pentatonix put one out this year! It was great! You will notice in that one, that the Bass singer, Avi, left the group back in 2017, and was replaced with Matt Sallee. Avi was the only member to leave. He left for personal reasons, and has since started writing and recording his own music. You may want to check that out as well.
Good catch on the skip/stop! Yes, they do that live in concert. Avi (bass) had a terrible problem with the contact lenses, especially since yes, they were trying not to blink. Apparently Mitch (tenor/countertenor) got a pass on blinking during his regular singing (as opposed to when he was doing effects). Kevin (beatboxer only in this song, but also tenor vocals and cello - both classical and electronic) couldn't wear the contacts at all, hence the visor. Mitch, Kirstin (mezzo soprano), and Scott (baritone) all regularly wear contacts, so they had no such issues. Avi (later, Matt Sallee) and Kevin are the most awesome a capella rhythm section in the world.
Must check out PTX's cover of Kiiara's "Gold," "Season of Love" (when Kirstie shines,) the classic "Mad World," Eilish's "When the Party's Over," and their brilliant mash-up "New Rules/Are You That Somebody." Then Kevin's "Down," Mitch's Billie Eilish's "Your Power." BTW, they're just as awesome live. Enjoy your trip down the Rabbit Hole!
