    1/4 tsp is the recommended amount for the 95th percentile of men's faces - so the top 5% of men's face size! Most women can get away with less, but best bet is to measure your face area in cm (using like a sheet mask for ex) then doubling it to get the amount in mg you should wear. I did this and found I needed to use only 1/7 tsp for my face. Many sunscreens might be much more wearable if you use less. Of course it's always safer to use more, but as someone who struggles with sunscreen casts and feeling heavy, knowing this has been very useful.

      Yup. Exactly this. Way too much product results in schmearing of the sunscreen when stuff is applied over it and also likely why it's all running into your eyes.

    • @goodwitch_glenda
      @goodwitch_glenda ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes for me it’s actually closer to 1/8 tsp for the face when doing the math. Also after you calculate the area it’s by weight, that you can convert into tsp for easy measurement. I also always heard from derms that is 1/4 tsp for face, front of neck and ears…Which works out for me again with the calculation methods.

      Thank you for this, because that was my thought throughout the entire video, that it was just extremely too much quantity of it on the face. More doesn't always mean better and not just about performance.

    I love this sunscreen. I put it directly on my skin and rub it in sometimes using a foundation brush so I can bring it down in my neck. All sunscreens dry out my face, Elta MD as well. This is the only sunscreen that doesn’t give me dry patches. Expensive, but I don’t have to waste money trying others. Great review, thank you!!

    When I first tried Flex, it did not set up at all. But then I realized that Flex is oil-free, which means it doesn’t play well with products/moisturizers that contain oil. So, I switched my moisturizer to oil-free. It made a huge difference. Although the finish was on the dewy side, it set up nicely for me. I use CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion Oil-Free.

    I have the flex and initially when i used it i hated it for same reasons as you, it felt like it just layed on top of the skin and didnt settle. However ive found a way to incorporate it into my routine. I also have the original spf from colorescience so i apply that to the back of my hand and just a pea size amount of the flex (the flex spreads well so u dont need a lot) mix them together and then apply to my face. Mixed with the original spf it doesnt feel tacky or greasy and blends in well leaving glowy look. It provides some coverage as well. I dont wear foundation just light powder ontop, so this is good enough coverage for me for every day.

  • @reneeca5696

    My favorite is their original formula. It's a bit light, so I go over it with a few drops of the MyChelle mineral which is too dark. Also, this combo helps due to the fact that the ColorScience is a bit glowy on me during the summer months (I'm not as dry) and the MyChelle is drying. I use this and rarely use foundation now-it's just a great skin-like pair. Also, I'd suggest letting your sunscreen set for at least 15 min. I do and it melds to your skin making other makeup application a breeze!🌞

    Nice review! Have you tried Vanicream mineral sunscreens? I bought both the 30 and 50 SPF options recently (both untinted) and am SO impressed. I tend to prefer high end products but have never found a decent high end sunscreen that doesn’t feel chalky and uncomfortable. These lovelies from the drug store are really moisturizing and elegant with skin loving ingredients. Really surprising and a great option for people who don’t like mineral sunscreen (I also prefer chemical, but am prone to melasma so mineral is my best bet).

    I love their sunforgettable powder. It is very hard to get in EU, the applicator is crap, the brush feels like the lowest quality alpaca butt hair... but the finish on the skin is better than any other powder I have ever tried. No talc, not drying, amazing blurring effect, the shade medium looks great on my skin (mac nc20/25, EL 2N1). There isn't many products I go through so much hassle for - but that powder is so worth it. As for tinted spfs, I like Bioderma AR spf 50+, the tint is neutral/slightly rosy, great for dry skin. But it is pricey... 30ml for 15€ and I go through it within 3 weeks.

    The Colorscience Flex looked good on you and together with the foundation, even better. Did I miss you putting on under-eye concealer? If not, you did not need it with the sunscreen/foundation combination. It does seems like a lot of work to achieve that look, though, especially if you don't like the feel of it. For that price, I can't imagine taking all that time to "get your face on", when there are so many other sunscreens out there in the market that perform well and don't make you feel like you have to wash your face. I use the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen because I love how makeup looks over it. In fact even on the days I do not use it as my sunscreen, I still use it as an under eye primer before concealer.

      Maybe you didn't watch the full video - the amount I put on is the amount you need to put on in order to get the SPF as labeled. When you apply less, you get less SPF coverage.

    Yeah that looks like too much product. 😕
    Everytime I try a mineral sunscreen I hate it which leads to me never wearing it. I'd rather go with something more risky like chemical because at least I'm gonna wear it.

    • @TheHoodedLid
      @TheHoodedLid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not too much product. 1/4 teaspoon is what is required to get the SPF listed on the bottle. I also don't care for mineral sunscreen. I've been liking the Tula Mineral Magic lately, though

    Why are you not putting it around your eyes at all? That’s the most important part that is most prone to developing skin cancers and photo aging.

    • @TheHoodedLid
      @TheHoodedLid  ปีที่แล้ว

      Several reasons - sunscreen tends to migrate INTO my eyes. Two, mineral sunscreen is very drying. Three - this is a thick formula which doesn't look great in that area and finally - sunsglasses will protect your eyes from the UV if they are rated to do so (most are) and large enough!

    • @Candice.BonsaiScience
      @Candice.BonsaiScience ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHoodedLid those reasons you list are all why skin cancer and sun aging damage is the most common in that area. Sunglasses are only effective if your combining them with a brimmed hat AND wearing them all day long even in the house when the sun is up.
      Pick a sunscreen you like around your eyes to apply if you do not like your chosen ‘face’ sunscreen in that area. Many of the Korean new age filters are amazing around the eye and extremely moisturizing off the top of my head I know the mermaid sun gel I can literally put in my eyeball with no burn 🤣 and most sunscreens make my eyes burn and water. Also the isntree hylauronic acid sunscreen is great around the eyes as it plumps the fine lines AND since you should be reapplying every 2-3 hours it keeps the area very hydrated and replumps them :)

    Why avoid the eyelids

    • @TheHoodedLid
      @TheHoodedLid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because my eyelids are very, very sensitive and zinc has burned them in the past.

      Nope - you need 1/4 teaspoon to get the SPF listed on the bottle. Otherwise, you're getting a fraction of the protection. The science behind SPF and how it's measured and approved by the FDA is very specific - and internationally recognized as 2mg per cm2 of surface - roughly a 1/4 teaspoon
