      I'm afraid, without a lot more information I can't help you. Two practical suggestions 1Take as many as you can afford to take or 2. find a similar research project and see what they did.

    All the sampling methods listed, except for convenience are random. A simple random sample is one form of random sample, and is arguably the ideal, as each observation is chosen completely independently of all the others.

      @@darksidegaming9682 I presume you are asking if the two methods you used are random or not? If each observation has the same probability of being chosen, then the method is classed as random.

    You should take a look at another video on the playlist from the UCMSCI channel called "Variation - why statistical tests are needed". Pretty much sampling helps us to find out information about a population when it isn't possible to collect information on the whole population.

    how to define number of sampling in huge population e.g. a nation?

    • @DrNic
      @DrNic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once you get over an initial small population which does effect the sample size, it does not make any difference how big the population is. So long as your population is over 5000 and the sample is less than about 20% of the population, the size of the population is irrelevant in your sample size calculation.

    Hello Dr. at 3.09 it is mentioned that if there is population of thousands and you want 50... through what method would we say we want 50 out thousands.

    • @DrNic
      @DrNic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You divide the number in the population by the number you want in the sample and that tells you the gap between objects. For example if the population is 6,000 and you want a sample of 75, then you would take every 6000/75 = 80 th object.

    So what is the best sampling method for a population of 265 people? Please please please

    • @DrNic
      @DrNic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a list of the entire population, then you can perform simple random sampling. You assign each person a number, then use random numbers to select the size sample you need. This assumes that you can reach each of the people. It may be that stratified sampling may be useful if you wish to make sure that subgroups of the population are represented. You will need to use the "small population correction" on your statistics if you are going to use your sample for inference. If you give me a clearer description of what you are trying to find out, I may be able to give you more specific answers.

    Thank you so much for vidoes. Can I receive more information about convenience sampling?

      There is not really much to add. It is a phrase used to describe any easy sampling that is not random.

      Quite a few people - this video continues to get about 9000 views a month. Many of my videos are linked to from statistics courses, so every year I get a new crop of viewers.

    How does block randomization differ from stratified?

    • @DrNic

      In block randomisation, the subjects are assigned to blocks randomly, whereas in stratified sampling, the strata represent different characteristics, such as apple colour, ethnicity or age bracket. You can do stratified block design too. I found a good reference about it by Douglas Altman, called "how to randomise". I can't put the link here, but you can find it using a search engine.
