Gosh so far away from the Boom, and you’re right under Txsu. But the Boom delivered. Love the engagement between the players from both teams on the field.
TX should make that last song their official closing song because it is ✊🏾Solid! Imma old head from '96 and that tune is an example of that (Swac Attack Song). Every sweatband should have one that is on Beast Mode. "Execution! Finesse! And PRESSURE!" The Boom has been bringing the best out of other SWAC programs for years! Gotta love em.

I love Snarky Puppy - Lingus. But I feel it may be TOO abstract to execute it correctly as a band arrangement in a 4/4 time signature. Lingus spans from 4/4, 6/8, 9/8, and 7/4. It’s hard to capture that in only 4/4 time.

The thing is, I'm giving any program props for attempting the song. They didn't NOT execute. It was a pleasant surprise for them to present it and to have done so as well as they did. Perfect? No, but dammit it wasn't bad at all lol. B. Simmons is FEARLESS with the pen!!
I was there live, shot out to the astros winning the world series right after this. But I had JSU winning that 5th quarter. To me they sound better, played songs. I'm use to TSU always having a lower brass sticking out but not that night.
And I’m glad to finally hear new songs from the Boom but.. idk. I feel like I haven’t heard this band at its best in a long time. There was a time when they actually played like they had pride in musicianship. Now it seems like they’re riding on the coattails of a past legacy and just playing shit to be playing it. No inspiration at all. The basic fundamentals like correct, synchronized tonguing, timing, and phrasing isn’t even there anymore. Quite often they sound muddy and jumbled. Got various sections playing at different tempos. It’s like they don’t care because it’s the same issues week after week and it hasn’t improved. Disappointing honestly. Dr. Little needs to address this lack of fundamentals and FAST. I will personally donate a metronome. 😕

I just don’t think he needs to be over the Marching band any longer and should focus on being the Director of Bands, same as Dr. Taylor did before he retired. Matter of fact, I’ve been trying to pinpoint when exactly the Boom took a dive in musicianship, and it’s when Dr. Little became Marching Band Director in 2012 under Dr. Taylor. And the difference between the Boom before 2012 and after is clear as day. I just need them to fix it, because I’m tired of pretending that I enjoy what I hear from them and ignoring the things I dislike hearing.

Had PLENTY of issues I could write a dissertation about, including how I don’t think they have an identity outside of the Human Jukebox, neither can they relocate their signature sound. But that’s not my band, so they’re not my concern.

I will always luv da Boom and i marched in the boom💙. They sound good, but to be frank song selection sucks and that kills them every time. Where is the book they were going to hit SU with last week for the real 5th that never happened? Where's the Jsu that played lion king, it's like the creativity has been sucked from them. I dont know if yall just bored and need some new writers or what. All Jsu do is play the same exact songs every game during the game. I will say, while being there, the entire game. From Zero Quarter, 1, 2, halftime, 3, 4, and 5, I was quite disappointed in JSU. Every song except for 1, (way in the 5th), I've heard played either by them, or are in someone else's rotation, heavy. I remember saying to myself "FINALLY something new!" Their fieldshow, and of course the J-Settes arrived and remained on "Seen." I was disappointed cause I was waiting for this Goliath of a band to sound like something, and all I got was "used" and "pre-owned." The GOOD part is, we didn't have to go to Jackson to get a washed up JSU appearance!
They tore them corey Henry chords up in lingus…good try tho. If you’re going to do something like that you have to execute. They needed that one in the lab for another week.
Show me any horn that can play semitones and overtones within reverb because Henry's chords were played here throughout the band but horns don't do synth. And they did it IN his key signatures.

This was surprisingly a boring battle. Neither band was aggressive as they were at their Southern game. Both bands sounded tired and or just ready to leave but only stayed because they knew the fans were expecting them to. Again, i'm surprised how bland this battle was considering the 2 haven't matched up in soo long.
That lets you know who’s the number one band …literally everybody and they moma bring their personal best against southern even Alcorn brings a better fight to SU then they do when facing JSU or TxSU

The announcer kept shutting JSU down over the loud speaker. Telling them not to play at certain, stop playing all together…it was pathetic. I was annoyed. Ntm the announcer was not doing a play by play. Had I not been watching the game closely, I wouldn’t have a clue what was happening on the field.

I will always luv da Boom and i marched in the boom💙. They sound good, but to be frank song selection sucks and that kills them every time. Where is the book they were going to hit SU with last week for the real 5th that never happened? Where's the Jsu that played lion king, it's like the creativity has been sucked from them. I dont know if yall just bored and need some new writers or what. All Jsu do is play the same exact songs every game during the game. Who want smoke is practically a spirit tune at this point, so your 5th songs should be 🔥 heavy hitters. I give the W to txsu. They had a better book, they sounded good, execution for the most part was good, and the creativity and energy was there. I'm sure the students in jsu band put in that hard work no doubt, and i hope jsu continue to do their thang but i had to say it.

I will say, while being there, the entire game. From Zero Quarter, 1, 2, halftime, 3, 4, and 5, I was quite disappointed in JSU.
Every song except for 1, (way in the 5th), I've heard played either by them, or are in someone else's rotation, heavy.
I remember saying to myself "FINALLY something new!"
Their fieldshow, and of course the J-Settes arrived and remained on "Seen."
I was disappointed cause I was waiting for this Goliath of a band to sound like something, and all I got was "used" and "pre-owned."
The GOOD part is, we didn't have to go to Jackson to get a washed up JSU appearance!

This was surprisingly a boring battle. Neither band was aggressive as they were at their Southern game. Both bands sounded tired and or just ready to leave but only stayed because they knew the fans were expecting them to. Again, i'm surprised how bland this battle was considering the 2 haven't matched up in soo long.
That lets you know who’s the number one band …literally everybody and they moma bring their personal best against southern even Alcorn brings a better fight to SU then they do when facing JSU or TxSU

The announcer kept shutting JSU down over the loud speaker. Telling them not to play at certain, stop playing all together…it was pathetic. I was annoyed. Ntm the announcer was not doing a play by play. Had I not been watching the game closely, I wouldn’t have a clue what was happening on the field.
