This is how a snare is tested, giving real hits, we see many tests of snares on TH-cam and they hit the snare very softly, not how it is really played. You do a good job. from ghosts, black notes, to rimshots.
PS - what makes PDP (and not DW) so great? I got the impression that PDP was a cheaper brand that DW makes in/for asia/oceania? But I haven't looked into it, so ... ??
We are here "to pump you up." The Tama has too much ring. The Pearl has an obnoxious ring. The DW sounds really good! The Mapex has a nice sound. The Gretsch wins hands down.
Pastor4all52 The room can do that. My living room makes every snare sound like St Anger. In my drum room a snare can sound perfect with a tolerable amount of ring with no muffling. Remo Coated Amabassadors and Amabassador snareside warms up any of my snares but that warmth gets lost once in my living room. So don’t blame a snare for being ringy unless you hear it in a few different rooms with different heads.
Ty! Terrific vid :) Excellent job. Appreciate the decibal meter. Maybe keep snare brand/model & size i.d. on screen corner throughout duration of it's demo.
Tama - terrible ringing sound and they have to cover it with a towel to make it sound decent. Gretsch sounds great. Pearl sounds pretty good. PDP definately better than the Pearl ( which is sad). Mapex ok. 1. Gretsch, 2. PDP,. 3 Pearl/Mapex (very close for me). Gretsch FTW!
IMO the Pearl wins this hands down. Best sounding drum - and most sensitive - of the batch. Close second is the Mapex. I didn’t care for the Tama one bit.
It's not even a comparison with different depths of drums. Good grief....but I know it's the top 5 selling drums ...maybe at this shop but at a large shop like Memphis drum shop the top 5 drums may be quite different. Some of these drums won't even make the top 20 there
Guy 1: I maybe would have preferred the smaller version because you know, I like-
Guy 2: Thank you for watching! Good bye!
Patrik Blomberg hahahaha
The first snare is the St. Anger snare drum ! :D
I really hope it sounded better than this POS in this video lol.
Tovvvija I sooo wish your comment is the top comment :D
@@LudwigSC93 Can confirm it is a killer snare (even more at its price), and this video doesn't do it justice AT ALL.

I HATE it when snare drum demos have a guy there hitting the snare with his purse.
They're all tuned high, which makes them sound like toy drums. The inclusion of lower tuning demos would have been better.
Why is there a Mapex head on a Tama snare?
many ways to join the two... as in ...Mae Tampax or Mama Tapex and so on. just a shameless "Plug"
British might say it Absorbs the Bloody tone.
why not
Steve Redenbaugh or Matama Pex? 😁
Because that's what he put on there.
Gretsch Brooklyn sounded the best.
Beautiful coloured Gretsch kit as well .
Nasty ring on the first Tama snare...............
they are out of thomann drum gel
More like they did it dirty tuning it that way🤣
Both the Mapex Equinox and the Gretsch Sound amazing. And I like the Tama SLP even with the overtones in it, I find them kinda pleasant.
PDP snare drum is very incredible.
Forget the Tama snare, that first Sonor bass is killer!!!!!
Not playing with the snares OFF, would save a lot of time.
It’s the snare sound most want to hear.
Pearl best, but you never know the tunung of the heads and snare is the same....
They all sound like snare drums :)
Damn, that Gretsch snare sounds AMAZING!!
.5" is NOT 5". Your clip shows 14"x 1/2" drum.
My favorite star drum is the Ludwig Black Beauty-hands down.
Can you please tell us the each cymbal model you used?
Do you also have the exact model of the Pearl snare?
That first snare has so much ring. I don't mind too much but most people hated st angers snare precisely because of that ring!
Is the pearl snare a 4 or 6 ply maple snare? Cost?
Love the sound of the Sonor Kick Drum ;)
Wd love to hear the kit without compression, etc.
I like the Tama and the DW sounds, but I'm a bedroom-playing drum noob ... :P
Get a good set of headphones. You're view of the Tama will change. PDP (not DW) sounds very good.
Maybe. When it comes to drums, I freely acknowledge I don't know 'Richard' yet ... :)
PS - what makes PDP (and not DW) so great? I got the impression that PDP was a cheaper brand that DW makes in/for asia/oceania? But I haven't looked into it, so ... ??
@@LudwigSC93 - Yeah, it rings like a mofo! X)

Denglish at its best!
I think They’re promoting those rim?
those H cymbals though.. I like them a lot!
Gretsh, definitly 😱😍
No doubt about it, the best sound on this video.

Why don't ya play the snares with out every hit being a rim shot. ENOUGH.!!!!!
David Suprenant You re completely right!!
I know right almost every snare video I watch is like that, fuckin pissed
David Suprenant agree 100 % !!!
Totally,that over ring is BS.
Because if not you get a shit weak sound, everyone in modern music has to do rimshots and if you dont do rimshots you probably suck at drums.
Really!? The guy playing on the Sonor set only used rimshots.
The first one sounds like St. Anger
Mapex....clean, cracking, sensitive, tuned nicely....for me anyway.
To my ears the blue Pearl drum wins hands down.
one of the best....u know the model, they don't give much infromation?
Why muffle a snare when you want to advertise
because you advertise all sound options. 90% of the time a snare is heavily muffled in the studio
Equinox and Gretsch Brooklyn👍
2nd snare is my favourite (gretsch)
Tama - terrible ringing sound and they have to cover it with a towel to make it sound decent. Gretsch sounds great. Pearl sounds pretty good. PDP definately better than the Pearl ( which is sad). Mapex ok. 1. Gretsch, 2. PDP,. 3 Pearl/Mapex (very close for me). Gretsch FTW!
Super drum solo
IMO the Pearl wins this hands down. Best sounding drum - and most sensitive - of the batch. Close second is the Mapex. I didn’t care for the Tama one bit.
D W sounded the best but in America Ludwig Black Beauty Rules
Too much phase issues on the right drummer mics to compare anything..
Alta my brother hat ne Double base and big Digital Yamaha Ding dong... I will learn you Are good...
Gretsch all the way!
What's your second favourite?
//Andy
The first one had way too much ring. The DW was my 2nd favorite.

true
Its noy fare you use stock heads on the others and the others are stock heads
The Sonor bassdrumsound is sooo shitty. That helps a lot. Never buy a shitty Sonor! Thanks!!!!!
And This no Alkohol
Stick to Techno. It works for you. 7:22 9:27
All seemed tuned high. Horrible overtones on that Tama or Mapex. Whatever it was. None of them sounded particularly pleasing.
Tip to myself: stay away from Pearl
Explain?
Zeee glory holeeee @itsalwayssunnyinphiladelphia

Ugh that first snare was fucking awful😂
Sprecht doch deutsch wenn ihr nicht richtig englisch reden könnt😂
Wir hoffen du konntest trotzdem alles verstehen :)
