    I love that you explained the difference between anaerobic respiration and fermentation. Some sources only talk about fermentation and neglect to explain anaerobic respiration, giving some people the misconception that they are the same thing.

    at 4:50 you say that the switch to lactic acid fermentation provides a brief burst of energy but how exactly? from what i know lactic acid fermentation produces far less ATP than aerobic respiration so where is the extra energy coming from

    • @michaelam9738
      @michaelam9738 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty sure it just means it's better than nothing atall, since you don't have the oxygen for the more effective process.

    • @xprinceduranteofficial9275
      @xprinceduranteofficial9275 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are many nutrients in our bloodstream (not just GLUCOSE) which can be used as fuel for our body including but not limited to: amino acids, fatty acids, glucose, etc... But since your body is exhausted to a maximum degree, you're forced to breathe rapidly and intensely, so making fatty acids as source of fuel (Fatty Acid Oxidation) produces more ATP molecules (129 molecules) compared to using just glucose from fermentation (2-4 ATP molecules) or amino acids (through Alanine Aminotransferase) as energy for our muscles. This is also the reason why exercising too much or having fast metabolism makes someone's body much like of an ectomorph type because they need to consume more calories (particularly carbohydrates) in order to catch up with their type of metabolism and also to gain weight with difficulty.

    I have a quick question about the lactic acid buildup causing sore muscles:
    Has it been confirmed to be the culprit? I remember reading a paper a while ago about a test they did on treadmill runners; one test being flat and the other being a downward incline (decline?) The conclusion was that lactic acid buildup was consistent with both tests, but the general consensus was they felt worse after the decline run leading the researchers to the conclusion that it might be a correlation not causation type deal.

    • @hunter_69_69
      @hunter_69_69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Technically it's not the lactic acid itself, but rather the protons that can be released by the lactic acid to make lactate (lactic acid is just lactate plus an additional proton, H+). If you're familiar with acid-base chemistry, pH = -log[H+]. In simpler terms, a higher proton (H+) concentration equals a lower pH, and a more acidic environment. My guess is that lactic acid (more specifically, the protons released by it, and thus, the acidic environment created by it) probably does cause muscle soreness.

    • @hunter_69_69
      @hunter_69_69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Smattless Both terms are interchangable (at least that's what I was taught). H+ is one proton and one neutron, so yes hydron is the more proper term. At least where I was taught, we simply referred to hydrons as protons, we ignored the neutron.

      Wait but isn't hydrogen made of just 1 proton (lt doesn't have any neurons)?

    • @xprinceduranteofficial9275
      @xprinceduranteofficial9275 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hunter_69_69 , bro, muscle soreness and muscle fatigue are two different things. Muscle soreness happens after 12-24 hours right after a resistance training and is caused by microscopic tears on muscle fibers. Muscle fatigue, on the other hand, is caused by a high concentration of hydrogen ions. Also, lactic acid doesn't last for 1 day and is not to blame for the soreness of the muscles when it's the responsible of the satellite cells and amino acids to repair the damaged muscle tissues.
