I have a 1988/89 Lotus Esprit S4 (upgraded) that seems to have a frozen clutch after not driving the car for 8 years. I'm super glad I saw this video.... night help me resolve the issue with my car!
Hey Rory here from London I am a fan of Number 27 and followed you from there. I love Lotus and cannot believe you acquired this for 200 Quid! Amazing. Loving the build! I think longer videos are better than highlights... I really like all the content!! All the best, I think it will be an amazing car when done.
Perfect length for a video like this. IMO videos up to 20 min. I will usually tune in. There seems to be a trend of car-guy videos getting up over 30 min and even an hour or more. Those usually lose me. I think some of the guys just like to hear themselves talk. I like the instructive videos where the guys get to the point with not a lot of bullshit. You are on the right track! This is a very interesting project, thanks for sharing it with us!
I like the long format where we get to see all the issues and how you overcome them (i.e. drilling and tapping trick) because that is real life. BTW, I use a 200W soldering gun for lower gauge automotive wires.
Just keep things as they are. It gives us the reality of what you actually trying to do. This is a great channel and I can't wait to see this thing look and go as it should. Because of you, there's life in the old dog yet. Your son doesn't know how lucky he is to have a Dad like you!
Great update! I think you do a good job with the time-lapses, and the two-steps-forward-one-back elements are a great part of the story IMHO. Otherwise it all looks like magic, which is less interesting.
I thought it could have gone a bit longer. throw in a few shots of the whole car now and then too, just to keep us all excited by the car. Could throw to what else is the garage. I like the more technical details personally. Keep at it, way more authentic than a lot of the American stuff that has 100k plus subscribers. Frequent content is good too, even if its shorter.
The length of the videos are good. I have just picked up a 1988 Lotus Excel S.E. that is a non-runner... Looking forward to getting started on it and loving the tips I get from your videos.
Not surprised, I have a last year TR6 and they mixed metric and imperial threads. Close enough that you have to be careful and actually check to see which they used on a particular part. Always dreamed of owning a Lotus Esprit but scared of problems, had enough for lifetime on the 6. Fun car when understand it, sure your Lotus will be the same.
Great ! love the vid ,your apprentice is also lovely to ,keep them coming loads of English interchangeable part used on Lotus they used lots of obsolete parts its what they could get cheap because they always had financial troubles of some sort stay safe 👍👨🏻🏭🇬🇧
Just wanted to say I 100% enjoy and commend you on all your hard work in this project. I am a new fan to your channel and will be anxiously waiting for all the new videos on this as well as other of your projects. God bless.
Good content, good video length, love to see the struggle-if you only show the easy stuff it wouldn’t be like any of my projects and I couldn’t relate.
Excellent content and glad to see you bringing this car back to life! I live in Fort Worth and wish I had the space to tackle a project like this. They just don't make lots big enough here. :)
Having restored an 88 (carb) turbo myself which was sitting for 10+ years I've been through a lot of the same pains you can look forward to!! A quick tip for the clutch master cylinder, is spend $70 or so on a braided clutch line... That red hose is from the factory and heat expansion causes all sorts of strange issues... Also it may let go when you start using it.... Crap design. Braided ones here: www.pnmparts.co.uk/esprit/esprit-na-turbo-se-88-92/esprit-na-turbo-se-88-92-q/lotus-clutch-pipe-braided-4089
I'm a fan of this car, since Jack talked with you and share your Esprit story i' m looking for more videos every day. I try to see about the Black Esprit but only found 2 videos. Are there more videos of the black Esprit? Cheers from Portugal
Glad you enjoyed it. It might have been the first time I added music to a video. I'm a car guy, not a computer whiz...well unless it's tuning the car's computer.
I know nothing about these cars other than they used a lot of parts from other cars for switches/handles/lighting. Strange they didn’t repurpose an ignition switch from another Mfgr (Corolla AE86 tail lights, anyone?) The longer format video was great 10 - 20 minutes is the sweet spot.
YOU SHOULD STAGGER YOUR WIRE CUTS SO YOU DONT GET A CLUMP AREA, WHEN YOU CUT A 120 V WIRE ALSO DO THE SAME KEEP IT IN MIND , THIS WAY LESS CHANCE OF A SHORT
Good work buddy!! Nice to see it progressing!
Thanks Jack!
Longer is better for me, a lot of this problem solving is transferrable/transferable to other engineering situations. Great vid.
Longer is better and the more in depth the better. Really impressed with you calm knowledgeable approach and style - liking your work 👍
Much appreciated!
Jack sent me...nice to see one of Norfolk’s finest being rescued ...👍🏻
Jack is a great guy!
30 mins + is great.
Saw you on #27. Good luck on your project.
This format works for me, the time flew and I enjoyed the video.

I much prefer the longer video 👍
I've got a feeling I'm going to be addicted to the story of this poor old Esprit! Thanks for sharing it all.
Glad you enjoy it!
Jack sent me here...Greetings from the UK. If you rebuild enough British cars, the Queen gives you a knighthood.
I like the long format where we get to see all the issues and how you overcome them (i.e. drilling and tapping trick) because that is real life. BTW, I use a 200W soldering gun for lower gauge automotive wires.
FYI looks like an Austin Rover key from the 70-80's. Someone like Rimmer brothers or David Manners might sell those locks.
Looks like a Lucas ignition switch SSB306 used in many 70s British cars, Austin, MG etc
The length is perfect, much better to see everything that happens rather than a quick overview. Great work sorting those problems. 👍🏽😎
Awesome, thank you!
I would love to see this from start to finish. I can’t believe someone would leave a car like that to die. Can’t wait to see finish product.
You'd be amazed how many Lotus Esprits get abandoned or dumped because no one knows how to work on them.
Just keep things as they are. It gives us the reality of what you actually trying to do. This is a great channel and I can't wait to see this thing look and go as it should. Because of you, there's life in the old dog yet. Your son doesn't know how lucky he is to have a Dad like you!
Thanks, will do!
Nice video, loved the technical stuff. Keep them coming.
Thanks for watching!
Well done! Great format on the video, with just the right amount of details. :-)
vinegar and salt soak bath, then neutralize the copper wires with water and baking soda to eliminate the corrosion. It makes soldering much easier.
Works fine for me. Helps me with restoring my Esprit
I didn't manage to sign in until i got to the 7th episode, real interesting so far...

Very interesting content. Will keep following you. Good luck from the Netherlands.

Glad you like them! We didn't get the later Excel in the US. They are a good looking four seat sports coupe. Like a British MKII Supra.

Great progress, well done!
Great job mate. Not many people would take that project on, but you had the balls to.G’day from Adelaide, Australia
Thank you so much!
hi from the uk 30 to 40 mins is better than short vids
Longer the better as well - love seeing the detail so I learn something as you go along :-)
Awesome, thank you!
Great content /format and amazing car to bring back to life!!
Great ! love the vid ,your apprentice is also lovely to ,keep them coming loads of English interchangeable part used on Lotus they used lots of obsolete parts its what they could get cheap because they always had financial troubles of some sort stay safe 👍👨🏻🏭🇬🇧
longer videos are best

Liked the format, continue this way Sir!
Thanks, will do!

I’m nearby in Denton. We bought this house because of the large lot and that I could build a small shop here for projects.
Really good video, definitely show the struggles, keep up the good work.
Thank you! Will do!
Live Lotus, live!!
Prefer the detail in the longer videos - very Edd China 👍😁
Longer was good and it shows that you have problems plus ways around it 👍
Oh, I've got lots of problems. haha

I had lost them! But I contacted the friend that did the editing and he still had them! I uploaded Episode 3 today.
@@nitrusmr2 👍👍✌
Lucas...the Prince of Darkness.
Great video, perfect length for a video. :)
Glad you think so!
Lotus' are cool but im here for MR2 burn outs. keep up the great work!
Glad you like them!
Nice music selection. Cheers!;)
Glad you enjoyed it. It might have been the first time I added music to a video. I'm a car guy, not a computer whiz...well unless it's tuning the car's computer.

I hope you plan to change the red hoses as they are known to go bad.
I'll be honest it kind of caught be off guard. All the Esprits I have worked on for the last couple years already had stainless ones.

THANKS! New episode just released today.

Think that steering lock is of a british leyland austin princess late 70's.
Wow! You might be right. I can't find many photos but certainly looks close.
Bet you could of got the barrel out of original switch and taken tumblers out
I didn't try. The electrical switch part is crimped on there. I'll take another look at removing that.
