- Danielle Trofe is a Brooklyn-based designer who recently launched a series of pendant and table lamps that are made from mushroom mycelium, a versatile and sustainable material. Trofe grows the lampshades inside custom 3D-printed molds and treats them with natural dyes.

What about the health? spores? posible problems with allergic ppl. Would it rot easily? how does it behave with high humidityor does it heat up easily?(depending on the type of light bulb it could get dangerous) ..

You can usually use oak pellets or soy hull pellets, with a little amount of calcium and flour to enhance the growth
ecovative doesn't actualy manufacture ˝mushroom material˝ they just patented puting a natural material in to moulds. (any musrooms mycelium in any kind of shape mould) so they are actualy stifling innovation because capitalism.

What if the mushroom is very expensive and generally non affordable
probably too late but the fungal inoculum shouldn't be too expensive. Once you have it you can keep using it given that you know how to maintain the culture.

@@Euphorb1um yea, you're right. But you can build a laminar flow hood at home, maybe a pressure cooker for sterilisation and a small fridge to store your culture? In saying that, I'm not sure if this culture needs any specific requirement. It's also dependent on where you live, you may not be able to get on your hand on this culture in the first place.
