I absolutely love the way Dirk approached this song. This is such a great example of how important drums are to the feel of a song. I love the original, and I love Dirk’s version for different reasons. He made it a totally new song to my ears and I think the half-time brought out more of the inherent melancholy and sadness of the lyrics. I absolutely love how different musicians can hear the same song and allow it to take them in opposite directions.
i watch all the video reaction of this DRUMEO TH-cam video... and something that all says is: "LOVE THAT SETUP"... is amazing and beautiful drum set i think...
I love these videos too. I started watching these when I got back into drumming for the first time in two decades a few years ago. I also love how each drummer interprets a song differently but it just works when that genius is inside them.
I think what Dirk is doing here is that he hears that the guitar and vocals are a bit quieter, so he's playing at half time to emphasize them so they pop more. The original is great in how the drums really push the energy to another level, however here Dirk is letting the drums play a supporting role. Probably a good strategy for how to play a great fill in or session role in a song. He did the same thing in the Paramore cover where he tried stylistically to let Hayler's vocals and the guitar riffs be more of the stars. And he's much more matching the tone of the lyrics and their message than the original drums. That's one of the strengths original drum track, it is intensely energetic about a very somber subject in heartbreak. That dichotomy creates a really interesting message by putting the energy and sadness on top of each other. It really shows Dirk's skill in how he quickly and accurately figures out what the song needs and how he can support it as a team player rather than trying to be the star.
Man I can’t WAIT for your reaction to Larnell’s episode of this series!!! He’s a monster bro you’re gonna love it! And it’s a totally different style than this guy or Chad had. Keep it up brotha 🔥
Larnell does the same as Dirk except he does it all in his head basically. I saw someone react to Larnell and they were “disappointed” he was not “aggressive enough “. Which is unfair IMO because he is a jazz drummer playing metal vs rock drummer playing a rock song.
If he knew the song he would of known the intro. It just goes to show there is more than one way to play a song. Besides what musician wants to here what they have already done? They want to hear different interpretations.
I didn't like the half time version at first -- but I think it's just that I was so used to the original drum track. Now I've listened to Dirk's version a few times, I actually like it. It does take the song into a different direction though.
If you want to listen to PEAK Dirk, you need to check out either 2005-2010 era Soilwork or 2012 - current era The Project Hate, very much metal projects.
So I admit it was jarring to hear it in cut time but as the song went on, I think it gave it an amazing structure and progression. The original song has that similar drum drive all throughout but by having the verse in cut time, it gave the chorus somewhere to go and gave the entire song a lot more in dynamics in my opinion. He had a great groove going on there! I like the original but Dirk’s version has become something quite special.
Man, I think half time is much better than the original! The original is good but the half time works better it sounds so good! Damn I love this version..
This is llustrates what i was saying on the last video about how drumming to serve the song not you ego, that other guy ruined a great song by making it about him. This guy took a song in a difference direction but still served the song. but apparently i'm "jealous"

Yeah the half time was awesome and was so clever.
Thanks for the comment 🙌🙌
I like the half time better. Changes the mood and fits the lyrics better in my opinion. Makes the build up at the end feel even stronger.
🙌🙌🙌
Totally agree, and it make the chorus even more funky! I liked it a lot and didn't expect that from a metal drummer, what a nice surprise! ^^
😊😊😊😊😊
I totally agree. Having half time in the mix allows more variance and makes the music more interesting to listen.
Wish I could buy his version, absolutely love it
Same it’s awesome 🙌🙌
The way he approached it makes it melancholy. Love it
🙌🙌
Megadeth's original lineup had guitarist Chris Poland and drummer Gar Samuelson (RIP) were jazz players.
🙌🙌🙌🙌 thanks for the comment 🙌
I like the 1/2 time better it brings a whole new vibe to a lovely song
Yeah love the half time
What a sweet, sweet dude ❤
🙌🙌🙌🙌

His rendition with the half timing, gave it a "The Cure" type feeling, which gave a nice twist.
Agreed 🙌

Sounds great doesn’t it
Sounds great doesn’t it

Yeah definitely 🙌🙌
HE ELEVATED THIS SONG!!!!!!!! BETTER THAN THE ORIGIONAL AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED!!!!!!!!! :D
It’s very different 🙌🙌🙌😊😊😊
Absolutely love this version
🙌🙌
for me that know nothing about drums... is great that you teach what DIRK is doing as he is playing the song...
Man I can’t WAIT for your reaction to Larnell’s episode of this series!!! He’s a monster bro you’re gonna love it! And it’s a totally different style than this guy or Chad had. Keep it up brotha 🔥
Legend thank you for this and yes, I will definitely look at this 🙌

@@marquisdelafayette1929 yeah but tbh I would suggest the Chicks Pain song Larnell does instead of Enter Sandman, it’s way more his speed 👌
I love this song of the killers, but Dirk as drummer is like a turbo boost to this song, he makes the drumming killers
🙌🙌🙌
You also failed to mention his first listen was without drums. Makes it even more impressive.
Definitely 🙌🙌
he did mention it?!
8:17 "I can't believe you've done this".
❤️
I never heard this song before i saw the drumeo clip. Not unusual for us metalheads
No definitely 🙌🙌
Es un GENIOOOOOO ❤❤❤❤
🙌🙌
Both Dominos videos are really fun to fun to watch...would like to see what you think of them
Ha ha the slipknot one is coming next week 🙌🙌

Thought he did a great job 🙌🙌
@@joelyjamz he did awesome gave the song a different flare.
Dirk did great as a drummer of Soilwork..
🙌
please do Jonathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett listens to Linkin Park also in Drumeo.
That one is most definitely on the list🙌🙌
It went into meloncholic feel with them ½ time
❤️❤️
Half time section definitely gives it a bit of a Metallica sound for sure. Feels very much like that’s in his drum roots and identity for sure lol
🙌🙌
i m sure that THE KILLERS will invite him to play this version with them...
🙌🙌
🙌🙌
VERY GENERIC ANSWER
would be interesting to see :)@@PinoSilvestreOriginal
give it 5-10 listens, ahah it works liked it
🙌🙌🙌

Yeah I think it made it so different 🥁🙌
You'd think jazz to megadeth would be weird, but thats exactly how it went haha

just stumbled on your channel; if you get a chance, check out John Blackwell...he was Prince's drummer for pretty much all of the 2000's...
❤️🔥🙏🙏
Smell the metal vibes..
😂😂😂🙌🙌🙌
😂 really i never heard this song before but now i rather hear this version than the original. The original is great though.
😍

I don’t know I just work here 😂😂😂
All good fun 🙌
I really love the concept of switching drummers to see the result. I hate the halftime tho lol. It feels like the song is stuck and frustrated.
Yeah looks amazing 🙌
I never cared for this song back in the day. Hearing it now with the half time makes it way better to me.
I have always liked the song but these drunk performances are so cool
@@joelyjamz lol drunk performances... It's funny you said that because I'm currently drunk. 😂
😂😂
Just to be clear.. These drummers hear absolutely no drums on the playthrough track. 😁
Yeah amazing isn’t it 🙌🙌
I like triplets pill
🙌🙌🙌
Chad Smith heard it drumless as well. I felt like you missed it.
I’ve reacted to that 🙌
