Thank you for sharing your journey. I can so relate.
We moved from Hamilton up to the Hokianga three years ago.
I was raised rural but my Hubby is a city boy, so l was’nt sure how he would cope.
We moved from a 5 bedroom house in the CBD to a two bedroom off the grid cabin in the bush.
We are thriving. We have moved into an amazing nurturing community with great neighbours.
We are only an hour 10, on a bad day from Kerikeri, 30 mins to a decent supermarket and lots of good cafes less than ten mins away. Lets not even get started on our Amazing harbour.
It took us about a year to de stress as we were so use to a hectic, demanding lifestyle back in Hamilton.
l had this constant feeling that that l had forgotten to do something, fortuately we gradually
    learnt to slow down.
One day l will clearout the container, which still holds a lot of our stuff we brought up with us, yet we never use.
Yes everyone drives slow up here, no reason to be in a hurrry.

Wow! That's great that you've had such a positive move from city to country living. Hokianga is an incredible spot; truly beautiful. It's amazing how we don't miss most of our belongings when we don't have immediate access to them. It can be a relief to have less things to look after and more time for people and the beautiful outdoors. All the best and thanks for sharing your story with us. 😊

Thanks much for the video. Really enjoyed it and your story. So glad to hear how things worked out. Here in Ohio I have a co-worker who lived in New Zealand for a year or two after he graduated high school when his dad took a teaching job in Gore. His sister married a local fellow and stayed in NZ and about 12 years ago his sister and her family moved here from Hamilton where they were living. They have been here ever since and her husband, Glen, has a similar story to yours of getting various jobs, then starting his own business and is doing very well. Glen was surprised to see ice and snow here in Ohio in the Winter but it used to it now. Thanks again for sharing your terrific story.

Thanks very much for your comment, it's so exciting getting messages from America! We're pleased you enjoyed the story too. Yes ice and snow isn't something most North Islanders are used to in Winter, it would take some getting used to. Where we are we don't even get frosts. It's good to hear of other New Zealanders journeying to the States and doing well, very encouraging. Thanks again

I used to love ❤️ New Zealand 🇳🇿 but it’s changed so much I started to hate it 😢

It has certainly changed a lot, for sure. There are still a few things we love about NZ though. :)
