@@jamiewilkinson1958 I have trained to weld ambidextrous and it makes situations like these a non issue. It does take a lot of practice, but when welding "switch" many times your welds look better. I think you may just pay a little more attention non dominant.
Set up is everything when it comes to Tig welding, work holding and torch access make for comfortable hand position and accurate arc length, flame direction and wire feed. I'm no expert just something I've learned from Aaron and weld monger.

I highly recommend the tig button for those that are welding out of position where you can't pump the pedal. It really came in handy under the dash welding in a roll cage👍🏻
I'm not a pro welder, but luckily I can weld with left or righ hand. I know it's not a big thing, but handy in awkward places.. One of the best channel!!!

I am not a tig welder but this technique definitely applies to MIG welding as well. Pivot whenever you can the more "planted" your pivot point is the more steady you will be.

This is a concept in everything in life. Hard way vs easy way. I know sometimes I over complicate simple tasks and hind sight if I would have spent a minute to think big picture it could be simplified
Already do my radius's like that based on ergonomics, but a big takeaway was watching you use an omt to cut your tacks off the plate at the end. Why have I not been doing that!?!
Great content…just a note though on the tank welds. I knew where those are made add by who. They are built as fast as possible with zero regard for aesthetics or quality. There is a stack of tanks that need to get done in a set time. Also, these people run the leak test and don’t have time to get it all done unless corners are cut.
@Mike G It's not a matter of "cutting corners", it's a matter of getting comfortable when you are welding. I think you missed the point of this video. It doesn't take any longer to make a weld look good (to a certain extent), you just have to get comfortable and pay more attention.
There's also the option of holding the torch like a shower head and pressing the trigger with the index finger. The angle is much better, but handling is worse because the hand is more extended so more movement for the same wrist twist.
Hello my good sir and fellow lefty, I'm interested in your TIG button. Unfortunately, I do not own a fancy, famous welding post , only some consumer grade "Stahlwerk " thingus (stahlwerk TIG 200 ac/dc) . It works well for my needs . It has two connectors for a variable amperage foot pedal : one 2 pins and the other 3 pins. Is there a way to know if your button can be adapted to it?
I know mig and Tig are different I'm proficient in both but even when I was mig welding I would start in my most awkward position when welding an 8inch or 10inch fitting in one shot and it helped and when I say one shot I mean no stopping
TIG welding can get awkward really quick ! I'm right handed, sometimes I have to weld with the left hand, MIG works fine, and even TIG works pretty OK, with the left hand only. But feeding the filler wire, with the right hand is damn near impossible. 😂
Green is the worst. It liquefies at the tip more, which makes the arc unstable. It constantly needs to be reshaped. I explain everything I use and do in detail at www.6061.com
I love my Tig button. Question: I'd like the ability to weld stuff in the field. For a 200amp inverter type welder, what would be the minimum output generator you'd recommend? My guess is 40-45 amps @240v.
Hi John, No idea, sorry. All I know is that I needed more than 16kw for my 350a tig to weld over about 250 amps or it would eventually trip the breaker. My truck runs a 26kw pto generator for everything 220v/240v when I'm not plugged into a building. I also tried a 200a tig welder on a little 2000w Honda, and I could only weld at about 80a (120v). I wish I could be of more help, but that's all the "welder running on generator" experience I have.
Depending on the model and the generator. I have a 200 DX Dynasty that I run off a generator. The service cord is a 3 conductor 12 AWG SOOW and can use up to 480 VAC 3 phase (delta) which means 20 amp physical limit. And it has a duty cycle limit based on this cord on 120 VAC single phase. I run it on 208 3 phase Y which is a code violation as the ground now becomes the neutral. But my generator is a 12 kW PTO 3 phase and I bond neutral to ground at the unit which is code. Yes, this is way more generator than needed. I also have a 3 phase 5 kW generator which swings the load fine on 208 Volt. But when switched over to 240 single phase (12 lead reconnectable generator), the engine hits max load when at 200 amps SMAW. My generators are industrial, 1800 RPM units (former military) with 80% power factor and very heavy. I would look for at least 7.5 kW 240 volt to swing a 200 amp GTAW machine. Not all inverter machines have high power factors. Power Factor is the ratio of real to real+apparent power. Electric motors have current lagging voltage, inverters can have current leading voltage. Either way loads the generator more than rated device power, the rest heats the supply cord. 200 amps at arc voltage of 12 is only 2.4 kW.
John, I have an older Miller Bobcat 200 amp gas job mounted on the truck that puts out 8K, all day. I run a Lincoln 200 Square wave inverter with the 6061 tig button on the 8K Bobcat no problems. The duty cycle on the Lincoln is a bummer, but it works good. I would guess a newer 10k or better generator would keep up . Most of the newer generators nowadays kinda overstate their capabilities. Hope that helps.
@@6061 Do you have any videos of your PTO setup? I picked up a Harbor Freight Predator 8750 and everyone says NOOOOO don't use dirty power but these welders don't really seem to care! It does 240v / 30 amps. They sell the inverter version now for $1400 which would be a much better option for cleaner power.

The only two TIG welders I've ran off my PTO generator setup are my Miller Dynasty 350 and ESAB 205, and the generator output voltage and HZ has swung a LOT higher and lower than 220v/60hz several times (on accident until I got the engine rpm's steady and figured out), and both welders are still fine. I don't know if the higher $$ units have some sort of surge protection built in that the cheaper units don't have, so be careful...
Weld the tube on last, then for the tube weld (on this short of a tube), I'd probably prop on the top of the tube and work around the same way (clockwise for a lefty)

We had a cabin on the lake that we went to all the time in the summer and one day we were all hungover recovering around the campfire the next morning and one of the girls says that exact same thing to me, im like wtf you talking about cheeseburger birds? she then tells me, "since i was little i always thought those birds were calling out cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssseee buuuuuurrrrrggggg----errrrrrrrrr!" lmao, ever since that morning now when i hear whatever damn bird that is that makes that call but it always makes me kinda laugh and now that ive heard it i cant hear anything else. obviously they are more around then just up in the mountains in Northern California. Next time you hear one of those birds i hope you laugh to yourself and think of me like i do with that chick lmao

How do you weld around tubing? Say 3 or 4" aluminum. After 30+ years of welding I still struggle with consistentcy on those welds.

What about when the tube is sticking up where your hand would be? I guess you would approach from the back if possible, but what if its not?
