The Kinks are the absolutely underrated band of all time. I saw them in 1977 in San Jose. Still remember how fucking great the show was. A group called Charlie opened. Another gem of a group. Ray Davies...marry me before you go!
It's on the cd two times - yeah - I could listen to this song a hundred times. A fan since 1965 I didn't hear this beautiful song til 2009 when I bought the cd. I couldn't believe it. How did I miss this. It wasn't on the LP. I rate it in the top 5. You are amazing Ray Davies.
The original release was on vinyl and you could only fit so many tracks on an LP so they would have had to make some hard decisions about what would work best for the album, what to keep and what to cut. But at least these days we get to hear all the out takes.
On The Outside The Kinks You stay at home All on your own with nothing but walls to talk to You never go anywhere You say you've nothing to wear So you keep all your troubles inside of you There's something hidden in you And you keep it out of view You shouldn't feel any guilt Or have any doubts You gotta let yourself out whilst there's something left of you Hey baby blue Don't hide your troubles inside I'd sure like to know you And there's so much to show you on the outside Somehow I know that we are gonna get by So stop acting like a lady come And cry like a baby on the outside (Outside) I know that the weather is fine (Outside)I know we're gonna be alright Somehow I know that we are gonna survive So stop acting like a lady come And cry like a baby on the outside On the outsideYou think you're a freak And you're afraid to compete In a world that you thinks got it down on you You're a closet queen You think it's obscene To let the people see what's deep inside of you I know what you're going through But what you are is nothing new So don't feel ashamed 'Cos you're not to blame Role up the blinds and let the sun come shining through Hey baby blue Don't hide your troubles inside You should be glad in the gay Nobody cares anyway on the outside Somehow I know that we are gonna get by So stop acting like a lady come And cry like a baby on the outside (Outside) I know that the weather is fine (Outside) I know it's gonna be alright Somehow I know that we are gonna get by So stop acting like a lady come And cry like baby on the outside On the outside On the outside On the outside whole night Songwriters Davies Raymond Douglas Published by SONY/ATV TUNES LLC
@@antennawilde The arbitrary 44 minute limit is a commercial choice. As an example the Arthur album was 49 minutes long. Besides it could easily have been edited to three and a half minute tune to fit within the 44
It is an unusual song for Ray Davies to write. His songs are often written from an observing point of view. This is much more brother Dave's style of writing. But I know it isn't. Great song! It deserved to be on the original Sleepwalker album.
@@antennawildethe timing thing other than being demonstrably untrue(and could easily have been fixed with some very subtle editing to this and a one or two other tracks) does not explain why it wasn't on the album. The question is why were there were a few very average songs that got onto the album ahead of such a stand out track
It's finally caught up to me...Ray Davies and George Harrison wrote exactly in the same fashion. GH was more of a religious type, but Ray had his own wry observations about the world around him. Frankly, as much as I liked the Beatles - I LOVED the Kinks. Now that the Baptist and Gibbo are both gone, seems the only Kinks keyboardist alumni left are Gordon Edwards or Nicky Hopkins (and I'm not even sure if Nicky is on this side of the planetary/heavenly interface). While Pete Quaife and Jim Rodford are both deceased, Nobby Dalton (who played bass for six months in 1966 after Pete's car accident) and then again full-time from 1969 to 1978 is still going strong with the Kast-Off Kinks. There's still a full, original four-piece band ready to go. Get Greg Hawkes from the defunct Cars band for keyboards, marimba, maracas, third guitar and lute - that would be a hell of a lineup.
This was on Spotify, now it's not. Bummer... such a great song. I'd say it's the second best track on the 'Spleepwalker' CD, just behind 'Stormy Sky.' I'd have thought it would be single material. Nice mix of the sixties sound the Kinks started with, but with a punk / new wave sensibility. Wish it was still on Spotify so I could put it on some playlists!
I like the Kinks , own all the lp s from Kinks to Low Budget & this is a good tune but it does borrow part of Stevie Wonders Dont Worry Bout A Thing of Innervisions
Serdar Sacek As much as I love Jim Rodford and am sad that he past away, the kinks have been through many incarnations and I don’t think his passing should stop a reunion of the band. I do feel his absence will be noticed though, just as an absence of John dalton or Pete Quaife would be noticed. Also I don’t think there are any ill intentions of reuniting without jim, they aren’t trying to disrespect his memory in any way.
Rodford was a great bassist, but to say that there is no Kinks without Jim Rodford makes no sense--The Kinks had their first hit in 1964. Jim Rodford didn't join the band until 1978. They recorded 17 albums without him. They only recorded 7 albums with him.

Just beautiful! From a most beautiful mind. Long live Ray Davies.
When it comes to album rejects, the Kinks' rejects are better than almost anyone else's A-sides. This just hits me hard in so many ways ~
😄 So true. I just discovered a song by them called “My diary” and it fits into exactly what you’re saying
What an amazing band !!
How was this song not on the original release. This song hits me right in the gut....
Bueno. Great

me too - it was hidden for so long
the kinks. Unjustly the shadow of the who and the beatles
what a song! This should be one of the best of all times-
On The Outside The Kinks You stay at home
All on your own with nothing but walls to talk to
You never go anywhere
You say you've nothing to wear
So you keep all your troubles inside of you There's something hidden in you
And you keep it out of view
You shouldn't feel any guilt
Or have any doubts
You gotta let yourself out whilst there's something left of you Hey baby blue
Don't hide your troubles inside
I'd sure like to know you
And there's so much to show you on the outside Somehow I know that we are gonna get by
So stop acting like a lady come
And cry like a baby on the outside
(Outside)
I know that the weather is fine
(Outside)I know we're gonna be alright
Somehow I know that we are gonna survive
So stop acting like a lady come
And cry like a baby on the outside
On the outsideYou think you're a freak
And you're afraid to compete
In a world that you thinks got it down on you
You're a closet queen
You think it's obscene
To let the people see what's deep inside of you I know what you're going through
But what you are is nothing new
So don't feel ashamed
'Cos you're not to blame
Role up the blinds and let the sun come shining through Hey baby blue
Don't hide your troubles inside
You should be glad in the gay
Nobody cares anyway on the outside Somehow I know that we are gonna get by
So stop acting like a lady come
And cry like a baby on the outside
(Outside)
I know that the weather is fine
(Outside)
I know it's gonna be alright Somehow I know that we are gonna get by
So stop acting like a lady come
And cry like baby on the outside
On the outside
On the outside

Always loved this song, never got why it was just a bonus track.
A standard 12-inch 33 RPM vinyl record can only have a playtime of roughly 22 minutes per side for a total of 44 minutes.

How could this have not made the original album? Great song, better than some of what did make the album.
As cool as a tune can get...why it was not in the original release is beyond anybodys comprehension. Only Ray can answer that.
Luis Aguirre probably for homophobic reasons...thats my guess.

finally I find this song, 20 years....
アルバムのボーナストラックでしか聴けなくて、スマホでは聴けないのかと思ってたらここで見つけました。この曲大好きです。たまには直球も素敵です。

Biter shon, I'm sure.
This sounds like an earlier Kinks song to Me Maybe that's possibly why it didn't make the album?
Ray write your solo albums. and. Leave Dave and Mick alone. There is no Kinks. WITHOUT Jim .Rodford..How dare. You disrespect Jims memory. . D B
