One of my favorite welding processes was in the shipyard using a Goat similar to this one. We were down in a drydock lying the first keel plates for a huge container ship. My welding companion and I were both running 2 goats parallel to each other the width of the keel plates width multiple passes. I almost felt guilty because we were enjoying it so much. Several days later we went underneath and arc gouged those seams out to clean metal and stick welded them with 7018 electrodes. One of my best welding experiences ever! Another job was on a tank job using what they called a roundabout, with a submerged arc process welding the horizonal seam. Another job we put a huge diameter pipe on a 45 degree welding the flange while it was turning on a roller. Those were the days!!!!!!
Intrested job, I had design, manufactured & used for welding of 50mm thick reinforcement rings. The machine was able to hanging in inclined position.. we have consumed 3000kgs welding wire.
