I think you had a wonderful day. I enjoyed your video very much. I wish to thank you for sharing your lovely photos with us all too. Most of your photos ofter made me wish I would have tagged along with you on that particular day to be honest with you. Great Job!
You always inspire me because you take the sort of photo's that catch my interest; they're not trying to be epic, they're just beautifully composed and balanced. They legitamise my own uncluttered viewpoint ... stand in the right place, make the image simple, check your settings, press the shutter button. Looking forwards to the next one.
I m living to. Paris, and you inspire me for my next holidays in yeu Island. I shoot withe the yashica mat 124 G and mamiya 6. I like your video!! Great photographer!
This video is perfect with a cup of tea cake and a Sunday afternoon. I found it very relaxing seeing beautiful landscape, wonderful photography and excellent gear!!
Great to see the old Singer Gazelle - what a classic! Enjoy the bike, I've been road cycling for 25 years, rural cycling is a great way to shed the worries of the world and taking a camera with you adds another dimension to time in the outdoors
I was thinking of you the other day and wondered what had happened, I'm glad you see you are back. Lovely images as always and a nicely relaxed video, a real treat.
Tom, I really have to disagree with your expectation of the images "not being anything special" my feeling is that at least 6 to 8 of these photos are really special. My favorite has to be the close-up of the door with the shadows beside it. When I saw the scene and the light I could tell them something there but I didn't think it would look as good as it did when you took it. Great video again! I always look forward to your videos 😊
Thank you very much for your kind words its really appreciated. I was very happy with the images in the end, they came out better than I was expecting. A great little camera 👍
Lovely to have you back. Great set of photographs as usual. Your camera, takes the Rollei Bay1 filters, if I am not mistaken. These are unfortunately rare and dear. A cheap workaround is to just stick a Cokin A filter to the lens front. A small blob of blu- tack is your friend.
Having just got hold of a YashicaMat 124G I’ve just come across this video. Spent all my childhood hols in that area, having grandparents in Newlyn and uncle in Lamorna and fell in love with the area. I love what you’ve taken…it’s been a long time since I’ve shot both 120 and black and white film and you have inspired me!
I enjoyed the images, as always. I liked the last set most, the "I don't" is brilliant, and in combination with the next one, an emotion is immediate. And the bird!. Well done.
Yeah the old cars and the light house in particular Great. I could watch an epic hour or more of this content,Professionally done in a humble sort of way. Welcome back my friend
Great to see you back Tom. My wife and I have wondering where you'd got to. Really liked this video, a real change with the bike. A series on your bike would be a great idea.
Great to see another video come through. I will say, for my Yashica, I ended up changing out the focus screen for an Oleson Brightscreen. Ultimately I sold the Yashica a year later after purchasing an Autocord "Export" model, because I found the cord' screen was even slightly better than the Oleson. Even now I still struggle. I basically hold it right up by my eye and use the magnifier every shot. I've shot only two rolls this summer with it, and while I actually got some great shots, it's not easy. Looking at other 6x6 options for the same "look", I'm now leaning toward a swap of the cord' for a Fujica Super Six. I know I'll miss the ability to have the camera down low for perspective shots, but I just won't miss the focusing. The other option is the Mamiya C220/330, but they're just so big when you add a prism... Cheers!
Thanks for finding the time to watch the video. I will have a look at those bright screens, it sounds ideal. I loved everything else about the camera. Many thanks Tom 🙏
A lovely relaxed video Tom, I really enjoyed it. I particularly liked your shots around the old mine. I don’t use my YashicaMat 124G nearly enough, but when I do I just love the results, and Ilford Delta is a great film 👌. I very much look forward to more videos from you. Best wishes.
Thanks very much, I'm really looking forward to get out and shoot it again. It really is a beautiful camera with such a lovely look to the images. All the best Tom 🙏
Great Video and lovely photo’s. I struggled with 6x6 many years ago so don’t own one presently. I find your videos very relaxing and glad to see you back out again. Using the tripod you can hold a filter over the lens of course!
Awesome work Tom I’m just in the process of trying my old Airesflex TLR like you I’m needing to give the focus screen a good clean I just watched a video on doing this with TLRs it looks pretty easy. Nice shots through your day mate cheers
The trick with square format is to frame more of the foreground into your shots. Since the square format is so tall, in a sense it is like shooting portrait orientation 35mm. Otherwise if you have too much sky in the shot you are stuck having to crop the photo from 6x6 to 6x4.5... Also I personally find that the 80mm or so lens on most TLR cameras is perfect for portraitures but is just a bit too tight for landscape. You need more like a 65mm for landscapes.
Tom, Firstly it's great to see you back on TH-cam. For someone who professed not to be great on 6x6 square format, I say these images are stunning (all your work has been) but I think 6x6 might be your format, the images were stunning, contrasty and very detailed. - I only wish I could get my B&W negs looking that good. Wonderful to have you back and I look forward to more videos in the future.
Thanks Sebastian I’m really pleased with the images it produced. It’s a fantastic little camera. I really appreciate the positive feedback. Many thanks Tom 🙏
Yay, a new video! I have a Yashica Mat. I love it. Surprising sharp lens on that. Thanks for the video and welcome back. On a side note the shutter sound in your video threw me off because the shutter sound on the Yashica Mat is so quiet.
Good to see you back, Tom. Missed your excellent shots of Cornwall. You have tempted me to dust off my old Yashica D. It is an earlier camera than yours and has the Yashikorf3.5 lens rather than the better Yashinon. It is an old triplet design so have to stop down to f8 or f11 ton get sharp pics. But is has the advantage of being very light.
Thanks very much David, you should definitely get it out. They are really fun to use and I was really surprised how sharp the lens was. I tend to shoot at f8 to f11 anyway. All the best Tom 😊
I admit it, I didn’t shoot any film last year and was lazy shooting digital so I didn’t reap much either. Now that a new year has begun there is an opportunity to do better. These days we are having a lot of snow so everything is white and cold. If I remember right this is your favourite photographic season and this video is now six months old so I am excited to see a new video from you soon.
Good luck for the new year. I’m sure you will get some fantastic images. Winter is definitely my favourite time for photography. I’m currently in Cambodia so I might be waiting a long time for winter 🤣
Super! Don't abandon the 6x6. Your work shows great mastery of the camera and of the film development. I have shot with 120 Delta 100 but have not achieved the beautiful contrast that you provide. Any secret to your developer and time? Thank you.
Thanks for the lovely comments. I use Rodinal which would seem like a strange choice on a fine grain film. I love the look of Rodinal @1.25, I also overdeveloped by 5%. I'm very happy with the results from this. Many thanks Tom 🙏
I recently used my Ysshica LM for some studio portraits (made a video too ;) ). The square format can be great, and I think you used it well, but I too find it clausterphobic in the viewfinder.
Totally agree the viewfinder is not the the best. It's still a wonderful camera to use and I found the lens extremely sharp and Excellent at picking out detail. Thanks again Tom.
Not just back, but back with a MF bang. Lovely work with a lovely camera (and a lovely format). You say it's a struggle, but this is a very strong collection of square images. Welcome back.
Great to see you back on the hunt for shots Tom. The results are interesting from the Yashica Mat - I have a Rolleicord Vb which is very similar. Can I add just one suggestion ....... the shot of the winding gear at 5.14 - would you consider a miniscule trim at the right edge to lose the sliver of highlight on the concrete wall. Best wishes as always from South Wales.

An eBay seller has Bayonet 1 to 37mm step-up rings with a built in skylight filter.

Thanks very much, yes it’s a lovely format to shoot.
Happy shooting 🙏
Love your shots! Especially the one with the wall, lighthouse and the parallel wire.
I really like the contrast of delta 100. Have to try it myself!
Thanks very much, it’s a wonderful film Ilford Delta 100.

Bonjour. A very good video showing images you can take with a TLR except the noise of the shutter which is not the one of a TLR.
The trick with square format is to frame more of the foreground into your shots. Since the square format is so tall, in a sense it is like shooting portrait orientation 35mm. Otherwise if you have too much sky in the shot you are stuck having to crop the photo from 6x6 to 6x4.5...

Best wishes as always from South Wales.

excellent shots. I like the natural contrast of black and white....which film stock did you use? sorry if I missed the information in the video itself
Hi thanks very much, I used Delta 100.

Some brilliant compositions in here. Every one of them seemed sharp and well exposed. Did you use the phone light meter for all? Any human override based in intended outcome? I've debated buying a sekonic but if the phone meter can spot these kind of results then no sekonic needed it seems.
Thanks very much, the phone light meter worked well on this occasion. I would still recommend a spot meter though, you will have complete control over your exposure. Especially in tricky lighting.
Many thanks Tom.
