i'm surprised to see a lot of people thinking that he is referring to a girl. from the the first time i heard this song i always thought he is singing about another guy with the " you smell like the devil but you feel like the lord", "pleading 'fuck me' on the marble that was used to create you" which can be referenced to michelangelo's famous statue of david as well as "tears in your jeans and the holes in your armour" which quite obviously correlates to a knight and the saying "knight in shining armour" when it comes to love stories and saying that the man was the perfect romantic partner. i also love how people are comparing this song to a poem because back in the day poetry was usually put into songs to make it easier to learn when being able to read and write was not common, this also makes me want to analyse this whole song how i used to when i studied english literature :D but yeah, i just wanted to share my interpretation as i enjoy this song a lot and have been listening to it for years
