I am a self confessed centre left Blairite, but I'm finding myself more and more drawn to the SDP, I'm left on some things and right on others, I'm pro nationalisation of certain industries, water etc, and I'm anti immigration, so the SDP's stance kind of suits me!

This party has the seriousness, the professionalism, it has the policies, it even has a quiet sustained ground game but what it really needs is exposure. The party really needs to up its PR game. There’s no reason that in 5 years, the party can’t be sending MP’s into Westminster and a plan to make that happen really needs to start now.

I was brought up conservative and believe that we should have small government and low taxes because I believe I can spend my money better than them . I have however changed my mind on some things such as public ownership of utilities and trains which should be returned to state ownership but with a no strike clause . I believe this could be achieved by paying the same wage to the employees with inflation matching rises each year , this would solve the problem that arose before where they held the country to ransom. Not only do I agree with the SDP’s immigration halt for a generation but we should actively deport illegals and criminals because we must reverse as much as possible the erosion of our culture. I also think benefits should be linked to previous earnings and private healthcare for foreigners must be at their expense . We must stop giving money away to NGOs and foreign entities whether net zero or humanitarian while we are broke as a country and I have always thought if and when we live in utopia then and only then should we help. Unfortunately they are not standing where I live so I will vote for reform, not because I like or want their policies but I believe they may destroy the Tories , fingers crossed.

Same, I joined the SDP back in March but tactically the best thing to do at the moment is vote Reform. We need the Tories confined to the dustbin of history and once that's done, do the same to Labour (which won't happen this time but in 5 years I can see it happening). Then maybe in 10 years the SDP will be a serious contender. Good to see others thinking long-term 👍🏼

Though I agree with Reform's cultural message, and confronting the pro-migration lobby, I also fundamentally disagree with neoliberal economics. It might be "pro success", but it's also profoundly anti-society. Financial success should not rest on rampant mercinary individualism. That's how we've ended up where we are. The SDP are offering a much more pragmatic, cohesive approach on that front, so I finally feel like I have a political home. Just a shame that the "natural-Labour" parts of the West Mids (we all know what that means), aren't running SDP candidates.
