- Tiff tests out the McLaren 12C Spider, but will it perform better than the McLaren MP4-12c which failed to impress? To help Tiff, Chris Goodwin has been invited to share his thoughts on the car.

I like the way these guys are giving their opinion, never biased and tell the truth but the very majority of drivers of the both the Ferrari and the McLaren will never take it to the limit and I think in this case the McLaren will win because it is better suited for driving in streets inside the town...
This car is far more relaxed & practical whilst still being as quick as the other supercars around, certainly what I'd prefer ! ^_^
Pretty sure the problem with confidence at the limit has to do with the open diff.
And suspension
This car is not about having fun , but in going very fast .
Not a single person commenting here has driven 12C or 650S or 458 so just chill out everybody. Tiff sensationalised the whole thing. Watch a Chris Harris video, he has no problem drifting any McLaren at anytime. If you are going to personally own one of these and drive it on the track you're going to want the McLaren and you aren't going to drive it like this, unless you are brining a trailer full of tires with you and a mechanic. The McLaren will post consistently faster lap times while being easier on you and the tires so you can drive longer and harder stints.
I've driven all of them. 650s beats all in every way.
I think Chris Harris is great and love his car stuff on the web, but his was a very different sort of roadtest.
Jimmy Mcrustler You sure it beats them in every way? Sure, it's a lot quicker in a straight line but you should probably drive a 458 Speciale on a track back to back with a 650S. You might think differently.
Pliaskam Vilo McLaren seems to dominate the ferrari in every aspect bro. The Ferrari just looks a little nicer and more recognizable. Speciale or not, doesn't really matter.

I don't see why the whole point of this video is only about drifting the car when it has an open differential and Ferrari uses an e-diff LSD? This practically ignores everything else about what the car is like -- with custom fitted luggage, it has great storage and can be used as a daily driver. Jay Leno says that in 2 years of driving one, the only thing he ever had to do was to change the oil. It is a car with truly exceptional ride quality, with some reviews having compared it to a C-class merc at times.
But then how do you expect a racing driver to tell you about that part?
Mclaren owners say it's a way better car with exceptional build quality and a lot more practical than the what the media reported -- this isn't just a track toy.
This is the same show thought the 1991 NSX was not that great. Then it turned out the NSX was way ahead of its time. The same thing is happening here.
They never said it wasn't great, but that it's more unstable on the limit. If you keep the systems on it's a fine supercar.

just looked at one of these with 20K miles on it - it has lost £100,000 in depreciation !!!!
I saw a price history of one here in the States, late 2019, it was listed for $70k, now listed for $115k but still no takers
At the time of this writing, I saw a 12C Spider in Papaya Orange on sale in my country with less than 930 miles on the clock selling for MYR 1,098,000. That is the equivalent of £204,350 as of December 18th, 2022.

before a magazine, or show tests a ferrari, guys came frome marannello to tweak and boost the car. none of ferrari tests are fair.
458 is a great car btw.
Still the best looking McLaren to date. Never been a fan of the 650S and I'm still struggling to like the 720S.
If he wants to drift it than why doesn't he turn the freaking traction control off?
Just to be clear. Real world - I have an MP4 - bought this year. Its epic. I used to have a Dino - my only and last foray into Maranello - I live in UK where if you are a Ferrari driver you are automatically deemed a W*nker - and they will tell you to your face too - and I am not the only one to say this - (drive one in Italy as I did and it's a different story - Hero), now I drive this no-one complains - petrol station bragging rights are cool too - lots of people want to come up and talk about the car and I do not feel like I am being a tosser just by having one - rarer and cheaper to run than an Aston - talk about reliability issues is utter nonsense. As for driving - I wouldn't be so stupid as to endanger mine or anyone else's life - so whether it can drift at ten tenths on a track in the hands of a professional driver is not something that interests me - that's not why I bought it and nor does anyone else - which I suspect is also same with any supercar owner!!!
650s is a hypercar but in supercar clothing
650S Spider is even better, improving dynamically and emotionally on a very good car in the 12C.
650s chews up and spits out the 458. The carbon tub means there is no compromise with a spider as well
650S is the new supercar benchmark and Ferrari's 458T is going to struggle to compete IMHO

Well the 488 gtb is there now. But the 675 Lt would be better.
Why does fift gear want to change mclarens cars into play toy in airports? Its a track car, and you dont go sideways in tracks like nurburgring, nobody wants to change tires everytime they get off the track, they want speed. If you want to toy around, buy bmw m3 or toyota GT86 and go sideways in every corner.
+in heaven Yeah who drives right on the limit all the time anyway. Also the Mclaren is quicker than the Ferrari in 0-100k and 0-400m Times easily

I would listen to Tiff over Topgear. He's a much better driver than those guys.

Why do Tiff and Clarkson believe that the best "test" of a car is whether or not it will drift? Could it be because as both of them become a bit more "aged" that this is the only thing they can still do?
Robert Shaffer A car should handle well below, at, and above the limit. Drifting is a way of testing a car's chassis and balance. And do I really need to point out the obvious... car guys like to have fun... driving a car sideways is very fun. Also, are you are really suggesting that drifting is easier than driving straight?

car extremely dull, much too much interference in the electronic conduction is made for those who are bad drivers and riders want to feel, is below even hire from previous generations of competitors,the new line of McLaren, the only car that is really good is P1, others are shit "12c, 650s"

I will just get a cheap Porsche ,with the sport exhaust either a cayman/ gayman ,or a boxster /cockster or stock 911 and all those names mean nothing ,Driving is the goal ,I am never ever going to go 160 mph on any road and if I went to track day ,it would have to be a long straight ,to get above that so under 100 grand ,is all good to me

Remember when even James May and Richard Hammond don't like the Porsche 911 991's electronic steering? That pretty much says it all.
Ferrari, lambo sucks big time!!! McLaren is the fine example of beyond perfection... ahhh stupid!! Why slide a McLaren when it is already trying to save you from spining and providing you traction.. then also you cant drift in hype speeds.. you need to hit apex with gret traction and thats exactly what McLaren provides driver.
