The sad truth is we need the oil and gas companies of today to help us transition towards cleaner energy solutions. People need to stop demonizing the industry and rather work together towards cleaner energy future.

      No we don't.
If we capped all the wells today, there would be disruption, but we would solve all the problems that arose faster than if we didn't. The fastest, most efficient way to handle the challenges of changing society and culture is the start and face the challenges as they come.

@@jspodek At the cost of what? Inflation in energy prices? Who does that harm most? How we transition our energy infrastructure is important if we dont want to shoot ourselves in the foot in the event of another energy crisis such as war.

@@jspodek "Disruption"? I think that it would be closer to chaos and war! Just look at a few events in the recent past when natural events or accidents occur and we loose a (very small) disruption to the current supply. I would love to see you try to live "if all capped all the wells today"...

By the time we get to a clean energy future the planets climate will have changed!!!! What will the planet be like when the global average will be above 2 degrees centigrade above the planets average temperage at the start of the industrial age???? Comments Welcome!!!

@@cristinataliani5619 Current projections definitely point to a warmer planet. However, it is still nearly impossible to model climate change where scientists are comfortable and confident in the models. We really need something like the Earth 2 project being worked on by Nvidia to help us model climate accurately.
2 degrees rise in the average temps would equate to extinction of further species, rise in ocean levels reducing coastal and islanders livelihoods, and the most scariest one in my opinion is the uncertainty in how it affects our food security. That alone can cause war and many more problems for the human civilization.

So do human beings require energy utilities need to be codified as a human right? Why should anyone ever be denied access to air, water, food, power, telecommunications, shelter, clothing, healthcare, literacy in the common second language ( English ) and human socialization ?

If you want to go for carbon capture you are most welcome to do it. But carbon capture cannot be used as a license to dig up more fossil fuels from underground and pump more carbon into the atmosphere.

Does a corporation whose main job is to serve its stockholders above its customers/consumers best interests really ever benefit its customers/ consumers over the short-and-long-term?
