    In the province of Ontario, Canada and other places, you must do an emergency stop for the purposes of passing your driver's test. This simulates an emergency vehicle approaching. And you MUST stop for an emergency vehicle on an on-road driver'stest and all other times. If you fail to stop for an emergency vehicle on a driver's test, it is an automatic fail.
    Watch these step-by-step instructions on how to get off and back on the road safely during an emergency stop.
    Good luck on your road test.

    Can you answer a question please
    If I am turning right
    Signal is green for me and the upcoming traffic
    There is s car who wants to turn left standing near the edge ( not middle of the road) in the upcoming traffic
    Who’s right is first???
    I during my road test, looked at that car, it was not moving, I turned right at a regular speed whereas that car rushed to turn left and we were about to bang
    Was that my fault??
    Because the instructor said IT WAS HIS RIGHT

      Hi Tanzeela Aneel - Thank you for your comment and query. I can't comment specifically because I wasn't there. However, one thing you have to remember: the right-of-way is never taken, it is always given. In other words, if the other driver is insisting on going, you're going to have to give the right-of-way or risk a crash. If you were on a road test and charged forward, even though you had the right of way, you risk a crash. And the purpose of a road test is to demonstrate to the examiner that you have due care and control of the vehicle in changing traffic situations. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

  • @I-am-KL
    @I-am-KL 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Do we need to apply the 4 way flashes? As I observe that drivers don’t do that when they meet emergency vehicles. They simply just stop at the side of the road and let the emergency vehicles pass by.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes my friend. The flasher tell other traffic that you are doing something unpredictable. I know that other drivers don't do it...but then again, a lot of other drivers don't do a lot of skills and techniques that compromise their safety. All the best, Cheers Rick

    I also wonder: what do you do if an emergency vehicle comes by, but you are stopped in an intersection waiting to turn left? Do you stay put or turn to clear the intersection? Thanks Rick :)
    PS Your videos helped me pass my Class 5 a few months ago :)

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Kittles - Thank you for your comment. And congratulations on passing your road test - we're happy to hear we could help. A lot of times at intersections, the traffic will simply stop. The emergency vehicle will go out into the opposite lane to move through the intersection. It is best--in most cases--to simply stop and allow the emergency vehicle to weave through the intersection. There will be the odd time that you want to turn to clear the way, but not often. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

  • @MrRobikshrestha
    @MrRobikshrestha 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is an unrelated question about stop signs: At 2:33, you stopped at the intersection of the roads and not before the stop sign. I am confused about the actual rule. If there is no stop line, should we stop before the stop sign or when the two roads meet? Second question: if there is a stop sign before a sidewalk and there is no stop line, should we stop before the stop sign or after the sidewalk (for USA)? My instructor told me to after the stop sign, after going just past the sidewalk, but not sure it is correct. HIs reasoning was we wouldn't be able to see vehicles anyways if we were to stop at the stop sign.

    What if there's a situation where you go through a two lane street and there's vehicles approaching from the left side going to the opposite direction and no space to pull over to the right BC of the curb retaining you to do so? Do you stop and wait for the emergency vehicle to maneuver around you ? Or proceed through slowly until a space is vacant? . BC I saw a car go straight through without slowing or stopping when the ambulance was behind him it confused me of the situation.

    I have a question. Assuming there is enough of a gap in traffic to turn left, are we allowed to turn left at an intersection on a green if pedestrians have just barely entered the intersection moving from left to right? I had an instructor criticize me for doing that a few years ago yet when I'm crossing the street it is not unusual for cars to turn left and pass right in front of me.

    • @ichigomgx
      @ichigomgx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      for the test, the car is supposed to wait for the pedestrian to fully cross the street before turning left. Toronto drivers are very rude tho so they don't really care about pedestrians. I almost got hit many times.

      if you are on a large hill up or down grade and you are driving a manual you will need to pull the brake to prevent from rolling, in am automatic tansmission the engine may hold but youll roll a little bit. Hi takilla queen - Thank you for your comment. The 70kph doesn't apply - it's either the 50 or 80kph whether you're in town or out on the highway respectively. And it's going to change if there is a speed limit sign. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

    If I have no other option, can I run a red light to let an emergency vehicle pass?

    Ok, but some driver is lazy driving a manual transmission, and my cousin told me a long time ago that in United States is difficult to sell a vehicle with a manual shift

      Hi Francisco A Diaz Jr - Thank you for your response. It is more difficult to sell a manual transmission in North America, but not impossible. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Is the parking brake necessary could I just put my vehicle in park?

      Hi Hayden Boisvert - Thank you for your question. Always, always the parking brake my friend. See this video for more information: th-cam.com/video/0YWrsQx2430/w-d-xo.html If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

      Okay thanks, I'm going for the g road test soon and my cousin who passed hers recently mentioned I needed to preform an emergency stop for this. My car has a parking hand brake I just haven't had an excuse to use it before.

      Hi Hayden Boisvert - Thank you for your reply. Yes, most that drive automatic cars don't use the parking brake. Still, it's a good habit to develop. That is, to apply the parking brake every time you park and leave the vehicle. And you're going to have to do it to be successful on a road test. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Hi....I'm a new driver at 42.... question....what if an emergency vehicle is approaching and it's another lane beside me keeping me from moving to the right?

    • @brandonl4914
      @brandonl4914 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you cannot move to the right, slow down and stop. 4 ways on, park and parking brake, wait for vehicle to pass. If vehicle is right behind you, you might need to move to left lane (but they can usually get around you).

    What if your driving a automatic vehicle?

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Alex Taylor - Thank you for your comment and query. If you're driving an automatic vehicle, you simply put the transmission into PARK and apply the parking brake. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

    a child runs out onto a street right in front of you, how do i stop before hitting him. foot peddle brake and foot peddle emg.brake press at same time or ???

    • @walter2902
      @walter2902 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just normal brake - as hard as you can or as hard as is needed. The parking/emergency brake will not stop you any faster and fiddling with trying to step on 2 pedals at the same time could distract you from putting enough force on the main brake.

    This seems like overkill. Where I live, we just pull over to the side.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi randomuser1105 - Thank you for your comment. And for some yes. However, for the purposes of a road test there have to be certain actions and techniques put in place to be successful and safe. Also, it's a good practice any time you pull over on the side of the road to activate your 4-way flasher to protect agains being rear-ended. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
