Very good video it answered some questions I had. I would love to see an updated version with the new msix app attach menu that was added.
I did have a question, how does this method handle program updates. Do you need to repackage or does a traditional update work?
    Thank you

    Nice content,
When you installed the msix app on windows 10, the windows 10 is it a ajoined vm domain or standalone vm on azure?
we need specifically this v2004 or any windows 10 image?

Hi Taoufik, In this video at the time of release there was an earlier requirement to have both Azure AD and Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) domain controllers in place for domain join. Azure Virtual Desktop VMs can now join directly to Azure AD, this removes the need to join Virtual Desktops to traditional Active Directory Domain Services.
See Microsoft article for more info learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/architecture/example-scenario/wvd/azure-virtual-desktop-azure-active-directory-join
To setup MSIX app attach, An Azure Virtual Desktop host pool with at least one active session host is required.
You can select any Azure VM image OS that's supported for AVD learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/prerequisites#operating-systems-and-licenses

@@CloudInspired what are the permissions delegated to WVD user, because the user that i am using to connect to a vm in session host has only vm users login on host pool and SMB share contributor on file level in storage account?

Are there any options for using MSIX / App Attach on server 2022 on premise (that aren't a third party subscription)?

I have been following the video, and I get the error 0x8007007B when running the mounting script. Any reason why?

I've packaged apps that are in .exe format and are available as a stand-alone.
Now I need to package Office 2016 that has a range of files with different extensions.
MSIX Packaging Tool is asking to choose the installer I want to package. What should I actually package?
Similarly, I also want to package Visual Studio 2019 using MSIX Packaging tool.
    Please assist.

Hi Roshann. Looks like its on the on the roadmap. Windows and Office are working on enabling Microsoft 365 Apps (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to be packaged and delivered in MSIX format techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/msix-deployment/msix-packaging-of-office-applications-visio-project-proplus/m-p/1058109

So much easier and quicker to create custom in a vm, add application, sysprep and copy vdx uri to the session host during build. To update the apps you boot the vm, apply updates, sysprep and link vdx uri to new session host. At the moment, i find appattach to much work.
    Good video though.

Hi Graham, thats a fair comment. MSIX app attach is getting easier though with the Azuer portal integration which doesn`t rely on the heavy use of Powershell to configure.

Thanks for the video, but must say Microsoft has really made it hard and it is not really simple to use. A much better approach would be from Intune and just assign apps from user groups or username and everything should be mounted automatically.

Hello Rakib. We have a lot of customers that find the process of using powershell scripts to achieve the mounting and management of the VHDs in WVD quite a tedious task after they have been packaged with MSIX App attach.
Microsoft public preview will be release shortly showing the ability to manage MSIX App Attach inside the Azure portal.
MSIX App Attach in WVD portal will allow us to point to a packaged VHD from a UNC path. This SMB share contains VHD's, i.e in Azure Files. This will enable your WVD session hosts to mount read only VHDs without powershell.
With regards to using intune and installing apps to each device operating system, it could be done this way ( as this video shows th-cam.com/video/Oh2CaMnEMVo/w-d-xo.html ), but using MSIX App attach enables full separation of the applications from the underlying operating system and therefore the virtual machine. This then has the advantage of greater flexibility, scalability and control enabling you to package and quickly deliver your apps to devices without installing on each device operating system.
I`ll keep this channel comments updated as soon as Microsoft release the public preview of managing MSIX App Attach inside Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) Portal, as that should provide easier delivery and management of VHDs.

@@CloudInspired Thanks for your reply. But in my opinion if you have the msix file, Azure/Intune do the mounting for you, its a straight forward prosess since there is not any properties that can be changed during the mounting. Intune does support MSIX files and maybe there should be a azure files connection there? But I have not seen support for windows 10 multisession in Intune.

Hi Rakib, yes agreed you can deploy a MSIX package with Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center (Intune) portal.
Add a Windows .msix in Apps > All Apps > Line-of-business-app.
Looks like the issue as you state is the WVD support and also the ability to mount a VHD (packaged with MSIX) from a SMB share like Azure files. It appears that will be provided in the WVD portal as part of the public preview when released.

@@CloudInspired Thanks for our discussion. Just discovered this app, but have not tested it yet. msixhero.net/documentation/creating-vhd-for-msix-app-attach/

Enjoying the discussion Rakib, thanks for your comments. MSIX Hero is a free tool which creates the MSIX app attach VHD from the MSIX package automatically as well as the scripts to mount to session hosts.
Hopefully we can use MSIX app attach functionality via the Azure Portal and it will be released soon, so we don`t need to use scripts to mount and its all integrated into the WVD portal. I`m watching the roadmap on www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=Windows%20Virtual%20Desktop and hopefully this will be available shortly!
