    Very helpful video, These bikes haven't changed much over the years, very similar to my 2020 KLX 300r

    Does the coolant have to reach the full line on the reservoir??

  • @rejeanaudy6840

    How does one empty the radiator on the left side?

  • @enduroridehd1835
    @enduroridehd1835 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Can we first take out the drain plug and then take out the reservoir coolant ?
    Or it has to be by the same order you did ?
    It is suposed to fill the radiator until the top, right ?
    And just out of curiosity... how does the reservoir work ? whats it job? because it is not "conected" with the drain plug.. what is it function ?

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm pretty sure you can start with the drain plug if you wanted. From what I understand the reservoir is an overflow reservoir, It is connected to the radiator, as the coolant heats up during use the coolant will expand and should flow into the overflow reservoir. When the bike cools down the coolant will contract and the coolant will flow from the overflow reservoir back into the radiator. So it is important when filling the radiator that it is filled to the cap and all the air has been burped out. You maintain the level of fluid from the radiator and not the overflow reservoir. Than make sure the reservoir is filled up to the full line, you do not want the overflow reservoir to be over filled past the full line. At that point the system should work properly as far as the expansion and contraction of the coolant. That is my understanding of it... hopefully that made sense.

    hay man, I have a 1999 klx 300r and I have a question beacuse on my bike the upper pipe (the one over "full" line) from reserve tank is connected to nothing and just placed on the other side of the bike and pointed down, so should this be like that?

  • @graysilver1168
    @graysilver1168 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I used pre diluted car antifreeze, it's ethylene glycol, the same thing my manual says, I filled the radiator to the top and the tank to the full line and it keeps blowing it out the overflow and the tank is now very low, I know I overfilled the radiator so it would blow off a bit, but it is just blowing a lot out, any idea what is going on?

    • @MileHighCampers

      Good question, unfortunately I do not know what might be causing your issue, sorry I could not have been more help.

    • @graysilver1168
      @graysilver1168 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MileHighCampers It was just because I idled the bike for 30 minutes, it works fine, it's just when you idle it for a very long time without the airflow it overheats, the new antifreeze works great!

    I changed the coolant on my KLX, but something seems wrong. The manual says it takes 1.6L, but I've only put in 1.2L. Here's the breakdown:
    With the bike upright (as the manual demands), the reservoir is full with 0.4L, and the radiator is full with 0.8L.
    . Leaning the bike on the stand, the reservoir drops below the full line, and the radiator doesn't show liquid at the top.
    . When I move the bike upright, I hear air bubbles and then see the liquid at the top.
    Tilting too far to the right, coolant will spill from the radiator.
    Should I try to add the missing 0.4L with the bike on the stand? And should I fill the reservoir to the full line while it's on the stand, even if it goes above full when upright?
    Also, when I was draining the old coolant, some spilled onto the frame and bottom of the engine. I sprayed it with water after about 10 minutes. Should I clean it better? Is it harmful to the materials? (The manual says to wash it immediately.)
    Another question: Is the reservoir supposed to have a bottom screw? Both mine and your bike are missing it, and the picture in the manual also seems not to have one...😅

    Sorry for the rookie question, #newrider but... How similar is this process + bike even, to the new 2020 KLX 300R.. Just got it, need to start learning how to do this sh*t myself lol. First dirtbike I ever owned..

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to check out a 2020 so I don't know if it would be similar or not. But a good place to start is to check out the manual see if it gives any tips on maintenance. Sorry I could not have been more help.

    Nice videos ...Can you do one on how to flush the gas tank and clean up the carburetor?

      I usually do my videos as a problem or a need to fix something comes up. At the moment I've got some other projects that I am doing videos on, but I do appreciate your feedback and if an opportunity arises to make that video I will.

      I’m trying to make mine street legal if you ever wanna do a Series on making that possible I’ll follow that! Also I need to adjust my back brake/change them !

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The process to make it street legal may be different depending on what state you live in. Unfortunately I do not have this bike anymore. I wish I would have done a video on the rear fender & tail light conversion that I did, got everything on ebay.

    Got a question...my brother-in-law has a 2007 klx300r with 69 miles on it. He said he will sell it to me for $2200. Is this a good deal?

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may want to do a little research on FB Marketplace and Craigslist to see how much used bikes are selling for in your area. 69 miles is SUPER LOW, if it's in like new condition, been well maintained and runs good, it sounds like a deal I would absolutely consider. I know in my area these bikes sell between about $1200 - $3500, so it really depends on the condition.

    Hey, so is it bad if the coolant i use is a few degrees off (example: manual says -31 degrees freezing point, and the one i have says -3r4) will this hurt anything, its also a much lighter green then the current coolant

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, I would stick to factory specs if you're uncertain. I have friends that just run regular car antifreeze and have had no issue. But I chose to use what my local MC shop recommended.

  • @enduroridehd1835

    Isn't it supposed to put 50% water / 50% coolant ??
    Is it better to put only coolant ?

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Engine Ice is Premixed with Deionized Water so it is Ready to Use out of the bottle. But yes normally check the label, some coolants come premixed and others are full concentrate and you would need to mix the concentrate coolant your self.

      @@MileHighCampers Thank you very much!
      Another question, do you know where can I buy parts for the moto ?
      And is there any Powerbomb exhaust compatible with this model ?

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have bought after market parts such as new motocross style rear fender, New front number plate with headlight on ebay. I personally really like www.rockymountainatvmc.com for parts and gear. As far as Powerbomb exhaust compatibility I am not sure as I maintained the factory exhaust. I think I would check with Powerbomb about that. Hope that helps thanks for watching and for commenting!!
