At 0:50 seconds yes i do see the sun rising in the morning. He must be pointed to the South. in winter, the arc of the sun's path is not directly overhead, it is lower in the sky, so that would explain the sun's position right here, when looking South. It makes sense.

Santa Cruz is on the north side of the Monterey bay so if you look southeast from steamers you still see over the bay.

Mate, the coast line is not a straight north/south line. Not to mention the different archs the sun does through the year
