Hi Ken, a suggestion; would be interesting if you do a video comparing the in and out clicker sound between the latest Ross and Abel Reels. Some anglers are clicker audiophiles you know. 🤣 You might want to download spectroid on your smart phone to quantify the unique sound spectrum of each reel. Cheers!
Very nice reel! Beautiful! Looking into it. Fishing was AWESOME on the 'A' of the Green last week despite the high water. Caught some PIGS!! Water should be down for you next week. They released full blast flows on the 4th with plans of sustaining that for 7-10 days. Best of luck man! Already planning a second trip up there this year!
Wish4Fish We lucked out and found a PIG hole at high flows that we fished from the bank. Pulled ‘em out all day on scuds and San Juans. We ditched our boat on those flows because we’re still learning how to row and didn’t feel comfortable with that amount of water lol. We were lucky to find that hole. But yeah, Cicadas should be hot when you go. Man I love that river! Have fun!
I have been fly fishing for over 50 years ( yikes) and own At least as many reels and have to say my favorites are the Ables . Starting purchasing them over twenty years ago and currently have eight , I know some people say ya there nice but they have to many parts that can get lost when cleaning or just fishing , I can say I have not had that problem and we fish a lot . I like the cork drag system it works great and will stop whatever you have on the other end and are rebuildable . Able were the first to come out with custom color anodizing and all but two of mine are done in color combinations I selected , great option if you want something different. Also got the Greatful Dead 50th anniversary ( sweet ) . That is the only Able reel I have purchased since they sold out in 2012 no particular reason other than I just like working with Steve's group out of California . I've been looking at there newer reels for the several years and the quality looks as good may have to look at getting a Vaya and see how they perform with the sealed disk drag system.
Thanks man. So no reel is a good match for a certain rod and vice versa. Some like to balance the rod which and definitely be good on the arms if you're casting all day. Especially in the higher weights. For the reel it's all about the look and the sound. Any reel is going to be able to do the same thing as the other. Sure a better reel is definitely more helpful when you're talking about Tarpon or some of those other explosive species but if you're generally talking about trout than any reel with do. For me a good match would simply be aesthetic. I would try to maybe match the wraps with the reel? That's about all you really can do. So if you're asking for a good match for this exact Baja Fade I would suggest a Thomas & Thomas since their rods are blue. G-Loomis uses blue wraps. Red would also work. Sage Method is red. Unfortunately for you I named expensive rods. Haha. That's just the only ones I know off hand with those colors. I bet you could pick up a Method on Ebay for a decent price now a days.
glorified line holder, absolutely no need to spend that much on something to just hold line. unless its like the Lamborghini logic. just to show off. I mean its for trout. Trout are not going to pull drag. WASTE

Haha! I'm sure everyone would "take" the reel.

We actually rescheduled the float to the 26th in hopes of better flows and dry fly action!
Wish4Fish Probably a good move!
We think so! At least I hope so. Haha

You can find some fantastic ones used online!
Dope reel. What rods you recommend to mate with it in the 5/6wt that wont break the bank?

@@Wish4Fish awesome man. Thanks for the reply! You ever fish the Salmon river in Idaho yet? Headed up there soon.
You're welcome. I have not yet. I'm sure I will be on the stream some day for sure.

That argument could be make about any expensive item. You don’t NEED anything high end, it’s a want.
