    I think the only thing missing is the "now try it yourself" section with tricky examples. But otherwise, great tutorial!

    Thank you! This helped a lot.
    EDIT: Also I'm American so, for any other American viewers, visibility will usually be spoken as 1-0 for 10 miles, or the number correlating to the mile mark. 0-0 will usually be but not limited to 'no visibly'. Normally in that case, you wouldn't be cleared anyways, unless ATC has confidence in their radar and your abilities.

      I will base all these lessons under ICAO rules but some FAA stuff can also be taught of course. I told about the QNH but forgot about the 10SM or Statute Miles used over there. Thanks :)

    Thank you for a very detailed and comprehensive video on Metar decode. I am getting ready to prepare for my FAA knowledge exam. Is it necessary to memorize every single code? For practice, I have been reading the METARs for my local airports and many of these codes never show up in the METAR. Im just wondering if it's necessary to memorize all the codes for the exam or do they let you use a table to decode metars during the exam?

    • @VASAviation
      @VASAviation  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. Yes, it is mandatory to know all codes although some of them are very rare to see. They are asked in exams.

    • @VASAviation

      Thank you Agnes. Understading METAR and TAF (will be explained soon) is very important for pilots and controllers. It's the actual weather report of an airport and will tell you important data of what you will encounter.

    Meteorologists don't comply to aviation rules. So it can be true north for wind. It is not clear to me. I think I heard sometimes "magnetic" after wind. May be they reajusted it. The same with american miles for visibility. They will be not nautical, bit statute. You live in zero declination area, but if we think worldwide then... Also I heard "If you read it, it's true. If you hear it, it's magnetic."

    • @VASAviation
      @VASAviation  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Magnetic on the ground, true in high altitudes. The explanation is that the wind you want to know on ground is because it's gonna affect you on takeoff or landing. Runways are based on magnetic headings so better have winds based on magnetics as well. If surface winds were on true heading, we'd have to calculate the difference ourselves.

    • @JolykYa
      @JolykYa 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, wind direction in METAR is magnetic? Wikipedia doesn't say about that, but says that 090V150 is true north. I'm still not understand.

    • @Firecul
      @Firecul 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      090V150 would be wind variable from east to south-east.

    Could you please come up with a video about understanding the UTC or Zulu. That would be helpful. BY THE WAY THIS VIDEO WAS WORTH WATCHING

    • @VASAviation
      @VASAviation  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What would you like to understand about UTC?

    • @faizanjeewani
      @faizanjeewani 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      VASAviation - Probably how to convert the actual standard time
      to zulu time

    • @VASAviation
      @VASAviation  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UTC, Zulu and GMT are constant. Just search for your timezone.

    • @Aimless6

      Better have your 'cheat sheet' handy. It is those unusual codes that will make your life 'interesting'.

  • @user-if3pm4xc3x

    Good day, could you explain, what six digits (190055) in the runway information mean. METAR: ULLI 051800Z 31007MPS 9999 SCT022CB BKN043 10/06 Q1002 R28L/190055 NOSIG , thanks

    • @VASAviation
      @VASAviation  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's runway condition. Those six numbers represent: (1) type of deposit (damp), (9) extent of contamination (from 51% to 100%), (00) depth of deposit (less than 1mm) and (55) Braking action (55%)

  • @chesleyhu624
    @chesleyhu624 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You mic is not very clear this time, too much echo. ICAO Annex 3 do have more definitions about those WX report like when it will be coded as VRB, Gust, MIFG.

    • @VASAviation
      @VASAviation  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I explained VRB, G and combination of weather.

    • @chesleyhu624
      @chesleyhu624 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good enough for private. If you check Annex 3, there is more about how they averaging, and reporting. Like the winds for routine and special report and for wind displays in ATS units are averaged value for last 2 minutes, but for METAR and SPECI it's 10min. VRB for METAR and SPECI is when total variation is 180 degree or more for the past 10min. Too many video for decoding wx. I just think u can do more to be more competitive. the REAL ATC is really good in your channel! Really good for Airline company to use to teach their new pilot! GOOD JOB!

    • @VASAviation

      It is SM in the USA, but ICAO is meters.
