Large swells impacted the entire West Coast - from British Columbia to California - on Thursday, Dec. 28. Swells reached 20 feet I along the Washington coast, producing large waves in Westport and North Cove. All shots except the waves crashing into tree stumps and logs were filmed in Westport, where Grays Harbor meets the Pacific Ocean. Westport shots include views of crashing waves from the Westport Viewing Tower, shots of waves crashing on the breakwater, and coastal flooding in town.
Two shots are from North Cove, WA, the fastest-eroding area of coastline in the Western Hemisphere. The shoreline was one mile further into the ocean in 1890 than it is now. Each large swell or big storm can cause damage and erosion to the area. North Cove is on Cape Shoalwater, at the intersection of Willapa Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
