I second that! Your in depth level of explination is extremely informative and helps immensely with understanding if the hardware is right for me. If something is mildly annoying for someone as chill as you, it would probably be infuriating enough for me to yeet the device out the window 😂 Keep doing what you do 😁👍
Great review, very satisfying click to the keys, same as Digitakt/Digitone. To be honest though, my Korg Electribe 2 Sampler just chops up samples into slices automatically, similar to the MPC.
Ricky. Your 20 minutes rambles are my fav thing on TH-cam. Don't choke yourself down to 10 mins :) Watching you ramble, lose your spot and forget the names of things help music educators like me realize we don't need to be perfect in our execution. Much love.
I'm not sure if you've mentioned it before, but holding down FUNC while you're changing positions of the slice, will ensure you get a zero crossing position. I get less clicking/popping when I just do that by default.
Additionally, when working with stereo samples, the default waveform display is showing the L channel only so FUNC only snaps to zero crossing on the L channel. If you change the display to Stereo you can FUNC snap to zero crossing that matches both L and R. To do this, from within the Trim Edit screen, press Yes and then select Change View and pick your channel.
Ricky pls dont rush your videos or feel that you need to not ramble. Honestly part of the charm of you and your vids is how in depth you get into things and how it literally just feels like we're hanging and having a convo as i learn about all this stuff.
Dawg you are the best thing on the internet. I just got an OT and the last time i was this mentally challenged was when I thought I'd "just give Clarinet a try". My fingers are as useful as a bunch of bananas right now. These vids not only make the whole process a lot easier to get, you come across as a genuinely good dude and the music is fantastic. Much, MUCH better than the standard "Learn by watching a douchebag make trap and dubstep" videos. Thank you señor, see you around.
It always bafflles me when people complain about the buttons on Elektron devices. I think they are one of the best choices that Elektron made hardware wise.
No need to bring down the rambling, it's really part of why your channel is unique and why I enjoy it. I freaking love the content and the vibe. Cheers!
This is one of the most useful OT tips I've come across, and so simple. Up until now I've been getting less use of the OT as a breakbeat slicer as I'd like, if it didn't automatically sync up nicely when auto slicing to zero point markers then I just shied away from using it cos manual slicing was too much a pain in the ass. This is a game changer, I've been chopping breaks all afternoon thanks to this vid, cheers!
2:05 "rambling"? Man, it is Sunday morning and summertime-switch here - rambling is good now ;-) 7:42 Yes, please do talk about OT vs MPC. The outro is again a little jewel!
At first this was the only way I knew how to slice on the octatrack and I got some happy accidents and really dope slices! Love your channel for the cool vibe and great videos! you're the one who made me buy the octatrack and figured all my live setup problems ;) BIG THANKS!
Don't listen to whatever haters or analytics are telling you to go faster. one of my favorite things about your videos is the pace and style. It feels like I'm in your studio with you chatting about cool stuff. This felt rushed. :) Keep up the awesome content.
The more I watch your videos about the Octatrack, the more I know I will buy one... Already a Digitakt owner (amazing piece) but the versatility of the Octatrack is what attracts me. It seems really creative overall.
This jam is so perfectly chill. Thanks for the grooves. And to echo everyone else: your "rambling" is read as enthusiasm, and I love it. Feels like just hanging out with you and soaking up your creativity and experience. It's honestly refreshing. Keep it up, dude!
This was a perfect video, with rambling please, for what I’m working on for a track using some longer samples and I could use this right now! Thanks for sharing Rickey and rambling.
I am 3 weeks into the Octatrack, and I really appreciate this video. I’ve been on Ableton and Maschine, and I’m drawn to the Octo because it gets me off the computer. I’m stumbling around it and struggling, and I’m enjoying every minute of it! I, too, am here for the ramble!! I can tell you’re passionate about the music...it’s an inspiration! Thanks for sharing!💪🏾💯
Ricky I love your rambles! Please don't change! I don't even own a damn octatrack yet here I am for my dose of asmr tactile clicks and gentle ramblinz ❤️
Actually that’s exactly what I’d like to see! I am buying my first piece of hardware and the pros and cons of both octatrack and mpc one are making it impossible to choose 😬
It was like “no, Ricky! Why only 10 min video?” Thanks for sharing this! I’ve been using it like this too, actually 😄 Regarding “MPC vs OT” would be very interesting! ✌️
Ricky, full respect for keeping your channel tidy, but maybe do a ramble-channel on the side. Kinda like LGR has a LGR Blerbs channel for his more uncut geekish ramble.
@isaac anthony No unfortunately. I tried to make one but discovered it's actually hard to explain the OT on camera to yourself like you were explaining it to another person in the room. xD
That Octatrack MK2 is lookin hard in black!!! IMO it’s the most versatile Sampler you can buy!!!!! You can use as basic or complex as you want to go with it
Slices must come quick before the hunger for the fyre is gone. No way, Ramble on Ricky. And Jam is real fyre! Also agreed on button sound, at first that clicking is charming:)
I have a live 2 and an Octatrack. Almost apples to oranges. Mpc definitely wins as midi sequencer with polyphony and longer patterns, but octatrack definitely wins in fun factor and exploration
Don't worry about long vids and rambling. I dig that style. Just shows you're super into making music, which is great. Also, grid sample chopping is awesome. Peace
Yes a comparison between these two would be great. I've been thinking about getting either an Octatrack or the Anolog RYTM. They are not cheap and I typically don't pay over $1000 for gear so this would help in one way or another. Thanks for the content.
thanks tons - perfect timing! I was just scratching my head on the AED/slices workflow - And YES PLEASE on the MPC vs. octa episode - I'm about to set up my MPC 2K that has been in storage forever. I'm slow on both boxes and it helps immensely to watch someone with your skills. also clacky buttons=nerd ASMR.
Nice tip on the sampling chopping.. Elektron could definitely do with 1) continuous recording capture so you can capture what you were just playing and 2) undo last recording overdub (so you don't have to copy patterns just for undo).
I was working on changing the starter on my car and worrying about some ants I spotted in my kitchen when the notification for this video popped up. I guess the point I'm trying to make is I appreciated being able to look forward to when I could sit down and figure out the slice mode on some gear I don't even own. Keep the long form alive!
Would be excited to see the MPC & Octatrack comparison. Having a MPC but also love the Octatrak crossfader and sequencer. Trying to decide if I need a buy one
Fantastic vid. I'm here for the short and long videos-good to mix it up sometimes. Video length/planning should follow the same rules of this Octatrack trick: make the thing quick and fun. This was a simple thing to share and I found super inspiring! (And if people really prefer a shorter faster format they can also speed up your videos haha) I definitely would be curious to hear about Octatrack vs. MPC. My buddy has an MPC One and is learning to use it, so I'm kinda living vicariously through him on that, and you on this.
Holding FUNC while moving the slides will snap to zero points in the sample.
Nice
Ricky, I'm here _for_ the ramble. Speak what's on your mind, I don't mind.
Thank you Lucas
I second that! Your in depth level of explination is extremely informative and helps immensely with understanding if the hardware is right for me. If something is mildly annoying for someone as chill as you, it would probably be infuriating enough for me to yeet the device out the window 😂

amazing, i appreciate that B.C.

I'm here for the rambles, the jams, and the superb lighting department.
Ricky pls dont rush your videos or feel that you need to not ramble. Honestly part of the charm of you and your vids is how in depth you get into things and how it literally just feels like we're hanging and having a convo as i learn about all this stuff.
^This. It's the conversational flow!
Ricky man....this is a life saver!!
FYI, you're not rambling, you're sharing and it's a joy. Keep up the inspiration!!
Mpc vs octatrack!!! I need it, Rick!!!
I’m with the gang. Your conversational bits and thinking through problems on camera is a strength of your channel. Not every channel haha
Ramble all you like. The main reason i watch your videos is that you're good company.
It always bafflles me when people complain about the buttons on Elektron devices. I think they are one of the best choices that Elektron made hardware wise.
I love love love the buttons
You're not a ranbler, you're an active creative
Part of my enjoyment of your channel is watching you get caught up in the moment. It's real joy happening
My other creative friend is exactly the same. Good way of describing
No need to bring down the rambling, it's really part of why your channel is unique and why I enjoy it. I freaking love the content and the vibe. Cheers!

7:42 Yes, please do talk about OT vs MPC.
The outro is again a little jewel!
Record Rickey’s vid to my OT, use slice method, and just play the ramble slices 😆
This is a game changer Ty for this!
At first this was the only way I knew how to slice on the octatrack and I got some happy accidents and really dope slices!
Love your channel for the cool vibe and great videos! you're the one who made me buy the octatrack and figured all my live setup problems ;) BIG THANKS!
Great way of saving time! I deffo hear you on needing to be fast and getting stuff done quickly to keep the creative flow!
Your rambling is why I'm subscribed - You are a philosopher, and an inspiration.
Don't listen to whatever haters or analytics are telling you to go faster. one of my favorite things about your videos is the pace and style. It feels like I'm in your studio with you chatting about cool stuff. This felt rushed. :) Keep up the awesome content.
"Listen to your hearttt"
Just thought I’d let you know, I’m here for the rambles my man. I enjoy seeing you work things out on camera because it’s real. You’re the man!!
Got my octarack yesterday and started with slicing first. this exact same thing really bugged me. Thanks for this and the other OT tutorials 🙏🙏
Your off script musings are one of the most charming aspects of your channel! no need to sweat the rambling!
I could listen to you talk about what you do for hours!
The more I watch your videos about the Octatrack, the more I know I will buy one... Already a Digitakt owner (amazing piece) but the versatility of the Octatrack is what attracts me. It seems really creative overall.
Thank you! More Octatrack please.
And the rambling is good for digestion,
gives time to chew through the ideas :)
This jam is so perfectly chill. Thanks for the grooves. And to echo everyone else: your "rambling" is read as enthusiasm, and I love it. Feels like just hanging out with you and soaking up your creativity and experience. It's honestly refreshing. Keep it up, dude!

Keep on rambling... that's why we're here!
Ricky: ok straight to the point!
Me: no no no no no no no
wowwwww that ending was actually crazy. holy shit lol caught me off guard even though i thought i knew what i was watching
I love looking at you videos because of how they are with trains of toughts included
I am 3 weeks into the Octatrack, and I really appreciate this video. I’ve been on Ableton and Maschine, and I’m drawn to the Octo because it gets me off the computer. Ricky I love your rambles! Please don't change! I don't even own a damn octatrack yet here I am for my dose of asmr tactile clicks and gentle ramblinz ❤️
Ricky this jam at the end was just pure joy. Thanks man!
Thank you my dear friend for creating this video. It is very encouraging to a new OT user.
The magic is in the rambling!
Respeeeeect Ricky. Would love that MPC vs Octa Vid. Thanks for the time you take.
Would love an MPC vs. Octatrack video, especially from you. Also, maybe broken down by modern touchscreen MPC vs. classic.
yes, this please!
"I already forgot the buttons" me everytime I come up with a nice pattern and hit Live Rec
bro!! this will help me so much when i get my OT soon.. you're awesome always. been an OG. stay dope
Got here late. Still works! :D Thanks Ricky. Always great ideas, music and overall content! Cheers.
I absolutely adore the clacky button/keys on modern Elektron gear. Sometimes I just want to touch the buttons even when the machines are off 😅
I don't even use the Octatrack but I found awesome that I always learn something from your videos. And the music is sooooo good. Come on!! 🔥
Actually that’s exactly what I’d like to see! I am buying my first piece of hardware and the pros and cons of both octatrack and mpc one are making it impossible to choose 😬
Thanks for that!
Yes for the octa/mpc video
And YES to rambling. A lot
Keep up the amazing work🙏
Thanks for that. Made a lot of sense and seems quite fast to do. Good video!
love your laboratory atmosphere. must feel good to sit and swim in sounds within that lighting
That octatrack looks pretty good, and since getting a samples I am starting to see a lot of positives with the Elektron workflow.
The smaller Elektron boxes are gateway drugs!
You and Noir Et Black Vie have the best lighting and atmosphere/vibes in your videos!
Excellent slicing tutorial!
Amazing tip! I'm also gonna use it to speed up finding the good bits in longer sound-design-y recordings. Grid first, fine tune later! 👍👍
it's amazing actually. thank *YOU* to infinity...
Nice ambience improvement to your backdrop... Going Hollywood... Lol... 😂
It was like “no, Ricky! Why only 10 min video?”
Thanks for sharing this! I’ve been using it like this too, actually 😄
Regarding “MPC vs OT” would be very interesting! ✌️
hahaha! ok ok.. the long videos it is! im glad you're down to kick it :)
This is an excellent tip! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing Ricky! Love ur videos. You really transport a lot of knowledge in a small amount of time in a super relaxing way!
Aweeee man! I was gonna say that the piano parts sounded soooo good unquantized, you played in a great feel 😂
This one video literally saved me so much time
you're my favorite music related youtube channel. i'd love to see a video comparing the mpc and the octatrack
Ricky, I need the long videos, I love the 20-30 minutes! Also, I think an Octatrack vs MPC video would be great!
Love the Octatrack videos!
Love the Octatrack videos, such an awesome but confusing and sometimes frustrating machine!
Ricky, full respect for keeping your channel tidy, but maybe do a ramble-channel on the side. Kinda like LGR has a LGR Blerbs channel for his more uncut geekish ramble.
Ricky, try parameter locking the slice to the scene and move the crossfader to the middle. It creates new melodic variations with the same tempo!
@isaac anthony No unfortunately. I tried to make one but discovered it's actually hard to explain the OT on camera to yourself like you were explaining it to another person in the room. xD
@isaac anthony I usually use (B) but yes, that's all there is to it, really.
great tip, Rob!
Thank you very much for that honest demonstration of the OT slice feature and that workaround! :D
oh yeah. why I didn't think about this myself. thank you!
Just got my Octatrack, and this is a rad tip! Thanks!
Te pasaaaaste!!! Tremendo tip con el octatrack y tremendo Track que hiciste!! 🙌🏼
Usefull, i didn’t know this workaround. Thanks!
Don't worry about long vids and rambling. I dig that style. Just shows you're super into making music, which is great.
Also, grid sample chopping is awesome.
Peace
Amazing work and value. Thank you!
Top ricky thanks seems that Octatrack sounds deeper (more bassy and roots)than dgitakt don't you think?
Really useful tip thanks! Would love to see an MPC vs Octatrack video too now that you mentioned it
Yes a comparison between these two would be great. I've been thinking about getting either an Octatrack or the Anolog RYTM. They are not cheap and I typically don't pay over $1000 for gear so this would help in one way or another.
Thanks for the content.
ive got an OT and it's worth every penny. i usually don't spend that kind of money on equipment, but OT is awesome!
Thanks was wandering about that slice thing
thanks tons - perfect timing! I was just scratching my head on the AED/slices workflow - And YES PLEASE on the MPC vs. octa episode - I'm about to set up my MPC 2K that has been in storage forever. Nice tip on the sampling chopping.. Elektron could definitely do with 1) continuous recording capture so you can capture what you were just playing and 2) undo last recording overdub (so you don't have to copy patterns just for undo).
pretty sure u can do both if you use a neighbor channel or if you are overdubbing using other gear into the octa (how a lot of ppl use the machine)
Still waiting for the MPC va octatrack video 👀
Yup. Been doing that because manual slicing is an utter pain.
We are here for all ur chatta & swagga
I'm just here for the meta-rambling
Oh gosh. Lucky you so patience.
Yoo, this is great! Thank you.
Fantastic vid. I'm here for the short and long videos-good to mix it up sometimes. Video length/planning should follow the same rules of this Octatrack trick: make the thing quick and fun. I definitely would be curious to hear about Octatrack vs. MPC. My buddy has an MPC One and is learning to use it, so I'm kinda living vicariously through him on that, and you on this.
I love you music Man! You best 👍
Awesome ! It would save me lot of time ... I'm so hyped to go back in octa world now
Backdrop looking tight today, dude!
appreciate the tip, and appreciate the speed! It bugs me that lots of YT creators don't seem to realise i have a pause and rewind
ramble away too tho!
yes, please! More OT stuff
Don’t even own an octatrack yet I’m still watching this. What is my life.
i'm witchu bro. i will soon tho
What an exit. Lol. Dope track
This is actually a nice tutorial as well!
