    I've had a Digitakt and Digitone for over a year, just sold an MPC with the intention of getting an Octatrack. This is the ONLY time I've forced myself to really watch a ton of tutorials prior to making the purchase. This one was brilliant, and probably the best tutorial for using the OT like an advanced version of the DT. I went down the EZBot rabbit hole a bit too early without looking into this kind of basic workflow!

    This isn't just a tutorial. It's also a tutorial on how to make a tutorial! More valuable than anything I've been read, told, watched or sold! Thankyou 🙌

    Wouldnt it be possible to use the same track for multiple different hits that don’t share a trig to save tracks, or do you just want the option of sound design control for each sample?! Great Tute thanks 🙏🏻:)

  • @earlsfield
    @earlsfield 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great tutorial - however I think that, although it is expanding on the topic, you should swiftly demonstrate re-sampling, just so people can understnad how easy it is to basically downmix your multi track drums, and free 4 tracks for whatever you might want to use these later on.

    • @Digiphex
      @Digiphex  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great idea. My next video was to mix down, replace the bass with a real synth, convert the bass to a MIDI out track.

    • @earlsfield
      @earlsfield 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Digiphex I always felt people don't show enough how awesome it is to produce entire tracks with OT. OFC, we record stuff to DAW, but there are tracks that can be simply bounced, also, not many arranger tutorials. Also, LFO's - 3 audio, MIDI lfos - we all know they are there, but rarely we see how powerful this can be, especially MIDI LFO. I mean OT is extremely deep instrument, you can dedicate hours of videos to one topic only, i am just throwing ideas out there. And yeah, i think it will fit nicely if you get your SH 101 to play as a thru or a pickup machine. BTW I love your work and BOC/ Apex Twin recreations.

  • @dwil2123

    Does the Octatrack have a loud powerful output ? What makes this sampler better than using Ableton, besides not looking at a screen all day? It looks for sure interesting, but time consuming.

    • @Digiphex
      @Digiphex  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has a normal output, as expected. It can''t be compared to Ableton because Ableton is a DAW and Octatrack is a physical mixer with knobs and buttons designed to be the centerpiece of a setup with other physical gear that Octatrack controls, samples from and remixes, if you use it to its full potential. It is FAR more time consuming than Ableton, infinitely so. But you get a different sound from it, a different performance, a new take on your music. It can take away the creative paralysis of Ableton with a million ways to go.

    • @dwil2123
      @dwil2123 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Digiphex I am just curious about how you can say it has a different experience than working with a DAW like Ableton? I mean is the sound different or do the sequences come out more interesting? I mean what is it? Less is more? I am really seriously curious because it isn't cheap and it only has 8 tracks and 4 audio-outs. I mean I used to own back in the days an Emu SP1200 and that was and is known for its punch and sampling sound color from its analog /DA conversions. Thanks

    Bought a used MK2 yesterday! This is my first tutorial on the beast, thanks! Is there some way to start the next slice exactly at the end of the previous? I imagine moving the cursor to the right always eats up a bit of the waveform (between end of previous and start of new slice). Cheers

      @@gdrdm You might benefit as a beginner the last part of my Armando 303 Octatrack video where I go into live recording what you are doing and then looping and playing it. I tried to explain it in a simple way, much easier than the manual which is good but you have to jump around in the manual which is the problem with it.

    I bought a few months I studied a few months I figured it out, but then I bought akai liv2, guys this elektron just sounds bad, and there is nothing in it unique or that can not do akai, I fell for the tales of mystery octatrack but it's all nonsense, to write quality music is akai, alas!

    • @Digiphex
      @Digiphex  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      But I can do anything on the Akai and a million times more with just a Keystep and Ableton Live. It isn't the capability sometimes, it is the format that inspires you. You'll probably get tired of the Live 2 format in a few years and you will need something to refresh your creativity.

      Keep it up making music, no matter how we make music, just don't make a copy of a copy copy copy of a trending track, just MAKE MUSIC VIBES!
