    When starting a diesel tractor, always set the throttle wide open, and when shifting an IH tractor always pull the TA back from DD to TA. Doing that makes easier to shift gears. In this video, you are trying to start a Diesel tractor with the fuel lever in the off position.

      @courtneyhirsh2271 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anytime you have to go into TA to make a clean shift whether ramp style or hydraulic means your TA and or clutch linkage is out of adjustment. Old red wrench

    Great job on the 706. Dad quit farming when I was 9 so I got to run a 706, 806 and a WD9 for a couple years. I just love these videos.

    My Dad bought a gas 460 about 1960. In 1975 he bought a used 706 Diesel, my mother did the books and in a few months said he should have bought a diesel years ago. Such a fuel savings!

    My 504 diesel manual sais it takes 60 seconds for the glow plus to reach max temp and to hold them on wail starting and continue to hold them on till engine smooths out and is running properly on all cylinders

    The 706 seems to need new glow plugs. IH diesels need really good glow plugs. Keep holding the glow plug button down when cranking, it will help.

      The 706 with the D282 if you dont use glow plugs it wont start even on a 100 degree day in the sun.

      @@RuralMidwest That is why I USED TO HAVE a 656D. I just got tired to spending a cool/cold day heating the newer, tested to be working, glow plug system to get warm enough to start. I traded it for 966D that will start in 2 seconds without glow plugs and/or either.

    • @CrazyDEquipment
      @CrazyDEquipment  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll have doc test to go plugs and make sure they're working cuz it didn't seem to do any difference we didn't film everything and Junior meant held them for about 45 minutes and I still required ether to start the tractor and that was the last stuff we really wanted to use

    • @mikenicholas5218

      @@CrazyDEquipment Best of luck with the project. I would like to add a 706D to my stable, but shipping halfway across the county would cost as much as the tractor. Merry Christmas to everyone.

    When I was 6 years old my Dad traded our old wd-45 on a 63 706, it was one of the early tractors with the clamshell fenders, it was a true workhorse on our farm, it did every job with ease, it had gobs of power even with a 5 bottom plow, Dad traded it in 2002 for a new case Ih with a front loader, I always regret not going to the dealer and buying it back, someone surely will get a good tractor there for sure

    Hey big D,u can go thru a hundred batteries, but that 282 international glow plug system motor has to be glow plugged for 45 to 60 real seconds, period or they won't start, either is stupid, sorry but true my friend, I had a 706 with lots of hours on it that I started in 10 minus Canadian winter with block heater and glow plugs for 50 seconds, it fired right up, so my point is that this old motor was a real tough work horse but u had to follow the proper glow plug system starting procedure and many stubborn old farmers wouldn't, lol D love ur show

    Those 706 diesels were one great tractor, easy on fuel and have most all the modern features as todays expensive offerings. They were real popular here, many still working. It will out work a 4020 anytime. We still run our 8 and 1206 s. Their bad thing is you have to keep those glow plugs working to start the buggers. Starting fluid sill help but the dealers always warned not to use it. Also just because you push the button, don't mean the plugs themselves are working. they like to burn out. you have to test all of them and the circuits to be sure. Also, if the throttle is closed the tractor won't run, that's the fuel stop as well.

    Make sure that all the glow plugs are working, and give it 45 seconds or so of glow plugging before you crank on it....should do the trick

  • @DLTJR1959
    @DLTJR1959 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those old IH's are real work horses but like others have said glow plugs for a minute or so and then they should pop right off. Got to have strong batteries. We had an IH 3616 Backhoe with a D236 that had to have the glow plugs on before it would crank. Would sit there and run all day long but if you turned it off it was a cold natured beast. My neighbor bought it several years ago and dug out a huge oak tree stump in his front yard the size of a couple of swimming pools. I swear you could have buried a house in that hole and the old 3616 would just sit and dig and dig and dig. Great machine.

    The early 706 with the 282 engine was hard to start. Later models used the 312 German engine. They were much easier to start. We always fought ours in cold weather. They were real workhorses
