EA sports was lacking when 2k routinely made football games. Now EA is even more of a greedy corporation. They don't want to compete. Hence why they bought the license in the first place.
EA knows they can’t compete in with 2k when it comes to sports games that’s why they will never give up the license. If 2K could make a current Gen simulation NFL game everyone would really see how bad Madden really is.
Here’s my idea on what 2k could do: release a game every 2 or so years but between the time every nfl season they update the rosters and keep it fresh and then they repeat that

I could see a 2k APF with franchise, lt let us customize leagues settings and do the Era thing where we could possibly re draft the draft classes through the years. Im sure people will be able to share their league settings like in regular 2k. and recreate the NFL or a version of it

In these games it’s the little things that count. It’s the ESPN tickers, real announcers, the choppy player movements is what I miss about the 2k football series. And they let you play historic moments etc.

I'm calling it right now, there will be no 2k football game. They cancelled that months ago. They just don't want to tell anyone because they know the backlash would be too much.
2k always keeps this under wraps till a month or 2 from release. They usually don't even release any type of gameplay for nba2k until a few days before the game is released.

If they release basically a graphics update version of 2K5 it would be better than the latest Madden if you're honest it would be better than the last 8 Madden's minimum if you're a super madden fan.
I have commented on this before... All they have to do is leave off the Kicker and Punter and make the game as real as possible with real physics and hit detection and ball mechanics. Without the kicker/punter it makes it non-sim
There's no loop holes. The NFL isn't going to allow that. You can't just remove one player and say "gotcha". They want the game to be more of an arcade experience.
Right, the games won't be 11 on 11. But you can't just remove one player and then have everything else about the game play like a simulation game, and say it's technically not simulation. The NFL wants an arcade game, not something that plays like a sim game with one less player. 2k will try to blur the lines as much as possible, but it's likely not going to be anything like 2k5 or 2k8 if that's what you're expecting gameplay wise.
I agree with your point of 2k wants another shot at simulation football. If they put out a decent game and madden numbers drop because of it I feel like the NFL would have no choice but to open the simulation license again.
I know there's a much smaller market for it, but I'd love to see a AAA licensed studio making a CFL video game. As a Canadian football fan that'd be the dream

The return of 2K football could spell the being of the end for Madden. Now Madden is the top football game at this time. Madden has better graphics then 2k in player appearances, stadium likeness but, Madden hasn't develop a better halftime highlight show, there video but there's no video with meaningful commentary like 2K has. Madden doesn't have a weekly recap show like 2K has. Madden doesn't have cheerleaders and Mascots like 2K. 2K has to have better game play commentary, graphics for players, coaches, cheerleaders, mascots, referees and stadium audience. 2K has to make player substitution easy, like allowing offensive line to substitute to any position on the offensive line like guards playing as tackles or center Once 2K get back the NFL license it won't take long to surpass Madden for gamer by giving gamer what they want.
EA does not have the license of the sport of American football itself, just the NFL logos and likeness... you can still make a true football game just without nfl players... folks will mod it anyways

YES FINALLY I’ve been wanting to play NFL2K again since I was 6 years old, I loved NFL2K5, that was very first NFL game that I have play when I was little
2K made an All-Pro football game based around the best players of the past. Kind of like MUT but only hall of famers and that was the basis of the entire game. I think under the simulation license they would be able to do that and it would be a great start to rival Madden.
Honestly, if the XFL takes off maybe 2K should try and capture a contract with that league. It would allow 2K to do a full simulation game and if that does well it would create good competition. Forcing EA to actually make a good game. NFL wouldn’t like losing those sales.
Simulation Style Football With all illegal hits. You can argue that those hits aren't considered simulation. I'm talking clothes lines. Smashing receivers who come across the middle. You can blast a defenseless receiver etc... But all the movements and player models look real.
I respect 2k saying no its not ready, and pushing it back. as a buyer I'd rather that than release an inferior product at a sooner date.
