    The machine is designed to handle mild steel up to 5/8" round, not the 3/4" cut in the video. The plate thickness is limited to 5/16". Most of what was videod was out of the spec range for the machine. Use a bandsaw or plasma cutter for thicker stuff and save yourself headaches. The machine works great if you stay within specs. I set up my 20 Ton hydraulic press to handle thick stuff like this and got tooling from a company in Ohio.

    • @KillerArt
      @KillerArt  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      stephen reamer When this video was shot in 2012 I called Bailey told them what I was looking for and a machine that could handle that This is what was recommended.. Bailey has since lowerd their specs on what this machine can cut.. with that said we now have band saws and plasma cutters; )

    • @stephenreamer4323
      @stephenreamer4323 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would it handle up to 3/16 sufficiently? I have a plasma cutter and band saw but for repeated jobs of 1/16"-3/16" thickness this could come in very handy if it did those thicknesses well. I plan on getting the punch to do square holes for carriage bolts. I make a lot of assembly tables and other tables for people for their wood working shops.

    im so glad i saw this a few months ago i was ready to order one until i saw your video, i ended up saving more money and buying an ironworker from edwards...

    Well i like the video, an honest down to earth way of showing the faults, funny aswel the hanging on the bar, who cares about the gum chewing, people seem to wine about anything these days, the demonstration was real and interesting, my opinion from the London UK.

    I am set in the in the best position. Prior to purchasing i spoke with a Baileigh representative. I was insured that the SW-22M Manual Five Station Ironworker would work for all my applications This was not true from day one, Brand new out of the box . I called and emailed Bailegh for months. At first i just wanted it fixed. no help than I wanted my cash back. back in 2012 I asked Bailegh to post a video of the SW-22M Manual Five Station Ironworker Shear in action. Nothing still to this day

    Thanks to people like you and youtube, companies can't get away with this sort of deception. What's more, they get a bad name in no time.

    I suppose that logic would suggest that simple leverage would be impossible to cut through 2" x 1/4" angle or the other thick stuff. That's what hydraulics are for. I always take the Manf specs and multiply by .5 to get a real world working spec. Especially with Stainless

    I bought the same unit 3 years ago, sold it six month later. The compagnie is not honest with the capacity... when i was able to cut 1.5 x 1.5 x 1/8" angle iron, it was so torn that i had to use a big hammer to fold it back...

    I was going to order one just for cutting angle, thanks for saving me the headache and I see 80 thumbs down, really?.....so it'would be my guess Baileigh's has about 80 people?

    • @KillerArt

      They have lowered the specs for this machine since i have posted it years a go ... I ended up going with a cold saw and have never looked back

  • @Chris-pb3se
    @Chris-pb3se 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That’s a nice shear but like most of them, they’re very optimistic about its limits. They fail to consider the arm and user. For heavier stuff, a cold cut chop saw, or bandsaw is the way to go

  • @Chazd1949
    @Chazd1949 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The manufacturer's testing lab probably hires a 275 lb defensive lineman to yank the lever. So, yeah, it'll cut the thick stuff - if you are a 275 lb defensive lineman.

    Obviously it didn't work for your needs...what would you think of using it on thinner stuff.... 0.125 iron angle or 0.250 aluminum flat bar etc? New you can pick one up for less than $500 bucks now. I've got a bunch of saw cut stuff now that I'm thinking this could cut faster and no more deburring.

  • @JimmysTractor
    @JimmysTractor 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was agreeing except where I believe you were putting more like 250lbs of force to move that lever. If you just put all your weight on it, I don't believe it would have gone through. I got a 12"X.25" shear on CL- The same exact thing as the one grainger sells for $250. I think the hole is .75" Maybe I will make a video where I hang weights from it until it shears the rod. anything more than 10 gauge, it flexes and just pushes the metal down instead of cutting it. If it sounds to good to be true

  • @KillerArt
    @KillerArt  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    And If you shoot a video send me a link i would like to see it. and sounds like a deal for $250 . unlike the $2000 I spent on the sw-22m Thanks Jim

    No way that machine will cut that angle, don't need spec's to tell that. Now they say 5/8 max on the round

  • @dkthom06

    I need a manual angle shear for 20-gauge sheet metal. Do you think this would work for that? Or do you have any suggestions on a tool that would work better?

    Good Video , but would anyone be able to tell me, if a 20 inch one , 500mm would it be able to cut, 6mm plate steel. I have no idea, i should have my 20 inch Sedy in a few day's, but would love to hear some anwers, on my question. Cheers Karl in Australia .

      Jacob E this is the exact same machine and a closer look at there specs comparing them To their original specs have drop all the thickness At-least by half if not More .. not just the one for round bar !

    • @jacobe1942
      @jacobe1942 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i thought that was a possibility about them changing specs or whatever. sorry you had went through that and paid even more for it. for 500 bucks seems like a decent buy if that is the range you want to work in. maybe your review gave them pause to reconsider.

    180 bouncing is probably more like 250-300. Isn't there a "perfect" position for the concentric to be in so you get the most reduction in speed?

  • @gijigadget

    That is really disappointing. Did you follow up with the company?

    • @KillerArt
      @KillerArt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes i did after many phone calls and emails the conclusion was to return the machine.. Further investigation i am not the only person that has issues with this unit...

    • @gijigadget
      @gijigadget 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KillerArt You would think they would have changed the Specs after this.

    • @incognitovirus9723
      @incognitovirus9723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They must have KillerArt. Cos the specs he is claiming in the vid aren't on their page. Not far under, but physics is a rough times four increase when dimension increases. So cutting 6/8 vs 5/8 is like adding 50% the workload. Even though it's only a 20% increase in a single dimension.

  • @carbocycle

      Ya I Thought the same thing ... i Have owned and used outher equipment from this company and had no Issues. .. but the First time I did and tryed to contact there tech support thay did want to anything to do with this machine. Thay even accused me of modifing the sheer ( I never did shuch a thing) .. I asked Bailey to post a video of them useing this and or one of there custmers , nothing ever came of that .at the time I ended up buying a cold Saw.

    • @carbocycle

    • @KillerArt
      @KillerArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I bought this machine back in 2012 the specs listed on the website were higher then now the company has lowered the tolerances or thickness that rhis machine will cut .. your better off buying a cold saw for the price of this machine..

    there are tonnage charts online for shearing punching and breaking any thickness of steel anyone who is going to buy an iron worker should look at these charts to determine how much tonnage you will need to do your job and not end up with a piece of junk like you did it needs to be hydraulic if you are working with anything but sheet metal
