Electric Potential due to a Ring of Charge

  • What is the electric potential (with respect to infinity) for a ring of charge with radius R and total charge q. I will find the potential at a point along the axis of the ring a distance "a" from the center.
    Bonus - there are two ways to find this potential.

    Oh man the sign change has really confused me !? Can you explain to me why it went wrong?

    your sign mistake would be because deltaV=V(infinity)-V(r=a) and you are choosing V(infinity)--->0. solving for V(r=a) would then net you your positive answer
