Hi Rob, thanks for your clear directions and personal recollections. Although I now live in Scotland I used to live in Southampton in the 1970s. Many generations of my paternal ancestors lived and farmed around Meonstoke and are now buried in the churchyard there. You and I must be the same sort of vintage. I was a member of the 11th Southampton Scouts and normally camped at Botley. Perhaps the Roe Buck has changed hands recently because I’ve not been at all impressed with the food the last couple of times I’ve eaten there, which is a pity because I have had enjoyable meals there.
A fabulous place for your ancestors to have lived , as you can tell I have a soft spot for Meonstoke and Scouting. I think we had the best of days to grow up in.
