A bike I've always dreamed of owning. Certainly a few things to tidy on the bike but it sounds absolutely awesome

Nice bike! The starter motor sounds weird like it's slipping or something.
The brake fluid needs to be changed.
1980 has the storage compartment, yours is 79.
Check the air filter, change the oil and oil filter, replace the spark plugs and take note of each to see if it is running lean, rich, or normal. Use a voltmeter to check the alternator, see if you're getting 13-14.5 volts at 3,000-3,500 rpm.

The voltmeter is all ready there and gives a good 14V on the meter. Look on 3:42

Finally a high quality video of this amazing sounding bike. Thank you! 👍 Yeah, it is true ... it is always a pleasure to drive the CBX 1000 especially in Europe, even really basic there is nothing that disturbs me it remains my favorite bike, the best legendary motorcycle!
In time I do a take about my 50 years of motorcycle experience. 😎 Stay safe.

The 79's had an issue with cracking the tailpiece. Under it was a single rubber bumper, and too much pressure, say from a pillion, and you could crack the tailpiece. They made and factory painted replacements for warranty, but they had gone to the storage there for the bikes they were presently building, so, they painted the new tailpiece with storage, silver or red to warranty the older 79's. There is also 2 rubber bumpers for better support. I purchased my silver one in July 1978 and still own and ride it. I cracked the tailpiece, and was fortunate to find a warranty one someone owned. Not cheap, and now I have a 79 with storage in the tail. Hope this helps.

Storage compartment came on the 81 and 82 Cbx and be careful with your Tailpiece! They are prone to crack and passengers beat the daylights out of them.

Another enjoyable watch, I owned a CBX-C in the 90's. The faired model, down tuned to 95hp compared to 105hp but still better for touring, they say. I have lots of funny stories during my ownership of the bike, laughing as I think about them. But that's for my memoirs...hehehe. Enjoy the bike. Gee.

First off, nice bike. She's a real beauty. Second off, how much did you spend getting that bike in that great shape. Thirdly, only amateurs wear shorts, low socks, & loafer sneakers while riding. Thumbs down to the upmost degree for you.

This bike was made probably before you were born before you press the start button you need to pull the choke and let the bike warm up your concours is full injection means no choke your bike is a 1979 model way different than today bikes

I'm thinking about buying a second hand CBX, I would like to know if it is heavy to the point of being annoying and becoming a problem in certain situations.

    • @villionsgarage
      @villionsgarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hi there. Yes...I would say so. It is gorgeous to look at, it sounds great, and the power is unreal for such an old bike. But it is very heavy. While riding it actually feels light, but slow moving, pushing it, parking it, or standing at a traffic light, it feels really heavy. That old dead iron heavy, if you know what I mean. So yes, in certain situations the weight might be annoying. But I can tell you one thing: It still makes you smile like a little boy while riding it! Thanks for watching my videos...

@@villionsgarageThanks for the quick answer, I love classic air cooled motorcycles, the retro style we have today with liquid cooled engines is just too fake for me. I'm currently doubting between acquiring a CBX or a CB1100 EX. I'm worried about the CBX being heavy to the point of being impractical.

As far as my knowledge goes.. the cuby or boot on the tail piece was only found on american models, SA did recieve a lot of those models as well. Another thing to look for is if your bike has the sport kit fitted. follow this link for more info. th-cam.com/video/cIaDl5_OPXg/w-d-xo.html

This was done by Kawasaki back in the day, their full dress tourer was a heavy beast. Decades later, we have the big BMW, a mush more refined version. I had a pair of CBXs and a few Gold Wings back then (the CBXs were the 1981 and 1982 models). I laboured over those six lovely Keihins, they performed brilliantly when set up properly.
I am tall, 6 foot 1, and the forward leaning riding position on my CBX was far more comfortable than the upright position of the big Wings.
