      @@BarlasofIndus There is an Islamic law against enslaving fellow Muslims that was followed strictly by the Caliphate (who owned the Mamluks). So it was impossible to make Mamluks out of Muslims. The same law was followed by the Ottomans for the creation of Janissaries and the Iranian dynasties (like the Safavids) for the creation of the Ghulam. That's actually why Mamluks had to be imported from so far away. It's also one major reason behind the decline of the Mamluks - it became incredibly hard to find recruits for their ranks as Central Asia converted into Islam. The Ottomans didn't have this problem because they sat right next door to Christendom.

      No Kipchaks were Christian before Islam. They converted only in the 14-15th Centuries after Uzbek khan of Golden Horde. Those who didn't convert stayed as Cossacks and Armeno Kipchaks (Kipchaks with Gregorian Faith) , those who converted became modern Kazakhs and Tatars

    Timur was a legit psychopath at large scale of war crime.

    • @ruxmania
      @ruxmania หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Timur admired Genghis Khan as his role model, but he also invited scholars to his homeland, transforming it into a significant cultural center. It's similar to how Vlad Dracul is viewed; while he was a villain to the Ottomans, he's a hero in Romania. Today, Timur is highly regarded in Uzbekistan, and even in Turkey, most people prefer him over Bayezid I.

      in war, he was a physopath,he idolized Genghis in war. But other than that, he was described highly clever and witty by the scholar ibn khaldun who met and talked to him. Bro was also great at chess and invented few moves himself

      I am astonished how people use "warcrimes" to describe generals or leaders from the past as like that will matter to the people of that time or like it even existed at that time 🤣

    6:53 it was Selim the grim that conquered the mamluks. I am starting to doubt the veracity of Johannes claims. unless Johannes had an access to time machine.

    Alongside this video, I hope you guys and gals decide to cover other famous explorers and travelers from Earths past like Ibn Battuta, Marco Polo and others. Also, a video series about the Age of Exploration in the 1400s-1600s CE would be my second favorite series behind the long-neglected videos about the Ancient Greek and (hopefully) Phoenician colonies established in the Mediterranean basin during the 800s-400s BCE. Thanks again K&G, you are the greatest historians on TH-cam!

    It's respectable that he didn't lose hope of returning home despite all these difficulties and sufferings. Also, it must have been great to meet Timur and fight alongside him.

    KINGS AND GENERAL! I know you’re a history TH-camr and all. But we have to save transformers one so we can get a sequel. At least 150million in box office. We reached 110 million and we need one of the well known TH-camrs that have a lot of influence to watch the video and make a review. It’s An amazing movie like the most goated Save TFO
