A Sewing Room / Studio Tour

  • Today I'm giving you all a little tour of my sewing room / studio / office space! This room is where I do all of my sewing, pattern drafting, sketching, blogging, and video editing. I am not the most organized person, but I try and keep this space in some semblance of working order!
I am super lucky to have this studio space, and am eternally grateful to my wonderful family for offering me the room to use for my work :) One day I'll even give it a proper clean out and organize it all again, but this is how it looks most of the time, so I thought I would share for any of you who might enjoy a peek around my work space!
The pattern drafting paper I mention, alphanumeric paper can be found here: www.atlaslevy.com/Guide-Markin...
Music: Let's Dance to hits of the 30's and 40's by The New World Theatre Orchestra, courtesy of a $1.99 record I found at Goodwill

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who goes to the fabric store with a list & come home with so much more.

“I kill plants. I have a problem.” 🤣 I appreciate your realness and sharing a working creative space. I also “borrowed” my mom’s serger and took it two states away. Moms are the best!

There's a difference between clean and messy (believe me, I KNOW 🤫). A bit of mess is normal - I'd worry about you if everything was spotless and at right angles!😉 Ah! You reminded me, my mum had an old snazzy evening bag that she used to keep buttons in. (She was a kid in Italy during WWII, therefore, she never throws anything away.) Have to ask her where it is. I used to love looking in that bag as a child, like a bag of treasure!

Whew, I feel better that I'm not the only one who's not the most tidy person especially while working on projects (not that I agree you are, just that you mentioned you believe you are) I believe it's a quality that comes with CREATIVITY & being an ARTISTIC & CREATIVE PERSON! So be it, and I personally embrace it! 👌💙

I don't remember if I ever saw you with your hair straight, but you look wonderful. This room is very useful and quite organised. If you ever had the money it would be a good idea to put doors in all those bookcases etc, they will save you from the dust and they will protect the fabrics. You never know, maybe some of these fabrics will be unused twenty years from now. Why not be in perfect condition? Your illustrations are very pretty and the patterns that are showing very nice for your figure.

Thank you for sharing your at home work look! There's too much pressure for vintage people to be vintage all the time! I'm working from home right now in loungey pants and a sweatshirt. 😜

Ooooh I love this realistic sewing room tour! On another note, I moved to Denver recently and knew I used to read a vintage style blog from somebody who lives in Denver, but it was years ago and I couldn't remember the name. Then I finally clicked on a recommended video here that was one of yours and BAM it was you all along and TH-cam had been suggesting your channel for weeks. SPOOKY! I'm glad you are doing well and making excellent content!

Such a great creative space. My crafting/sewing space does multiple duties, including be an occasional kitten foster room, so I have to keep all my supplies, fabrics, yarn, etc., into closets, drawers and a bureau. I love Dressing the Galaxy and want to get the follow-up book. I actually attended the Star Wars Celebration panel about the Costumes book, and it was awesome--of course!
Also, I've pricing out pattern paper, and even just plain white rolled paper for making skirts--all the options seem so expensive. That paper is a great size AND price. Thank you for sharing it.

    • @TheClosetHistorian
      @TheClosetHistorian  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you Leigh-Anne! Kitten foster room has got to the best room description ever, I haven't played with any kittens in ages! I have ordered several rolls of the Atlas paper and find it a super bargain, I'm happy to share my resources :)

I approve nerdy t-shirt! And I think howls moving castle is my favorite Ghibli 😁
It's nice to see your space. I don't have one yet (hopefully I will move in a bigger flat in the next 3 months) because 250sqm is really small 😭
I totally understand the situation where you go to the fabric shop and come back with way more than was planned!

Great space! May I ask your ethnicity? You look so much like my friend, who is Armenian. I have dark hair and dark eyes like you. I have been asked if I am Armenian, Greek, Italian. I am Bohemian, Jewish, German, Irish and French. I am fascinated by people’s backgrounds. I bought my husband Ancestry DNA kit as one of his Christmas presents. We are really excited to see what it shows!

I am super curious how old you are?
Not to sound like a creeper...
I just turned 28, and im always curious how old other fellow vintage lovers are...im odd...
Anywho...looks like a cozy room to me...its got what u need!
I love all your wall hangings!
And another question...so ive been wanting to create my own clothes for years now...for like 13ish years...ive nvr owned or had a mother that owned a sewing machine though...and they are kinda spendy...but now i figured i would ask my gma if i could borrow her sewing machine, she has the pedal kind...and idk how the eff to use it...and i was wondering if the are harder to use?
Also...since i want to start off making something vintage looking...what would be an easier thing to make for my first thing...i would love to do a skirt or dress.
And is it suuuper hard to learn sewing?
My experience sewing is...fixing holes in clothes...putting on buttons...hand sewing a hem...and maybe a few other super simple things...
So pretty much hand sewing only...and not alot...and on a scale of 1-10 on how good i am is prob...a 4...mostly cause i raaarly have to do it.
So...i need help on beginning sewing...i really really really want to do it! So bad!
Im very artsy, and creative...i love sketching, and making things, art of all kinds, and i believe clothing is art.
So...can u help a beginner out on and tips or tricks!?
    Pleeease!!!

I am 27, which always surprises me because I'm not used to it yet and don't know where the time has gone!
I do have a video with many of my general tips for starting to sew th-cam.com/video/Vjjn6vFqMiQ/w-d-xo.html I'm not sure if by pedal kind of machine if you mean an electric sewing machine with a foot petal (like a "normal" modern sewing machine), or if you mean an old fashioned treadle machine like the old heavy duty singers and such, but I have only ever tried using a treadle machine once and it seemed really difficult to me! Perhaps this article may be helpful www.seamwork.com/issues/2015/08/treadle-sewing-for-modern-sewists
Often sewing machines are really actually quite hardy, and thrift shops or sewing machine repair places can be good inexpensive places to look for picking up a machine. Also there is no reason to get a super fancy machine in my opinion, I work on a $90 sewing machine and it had served me well for years now.
