Yes! These British kids didn't know what they were witnessing on this rainy day. She even preceded Little Richard and Chuck Berry.

My father and an older brother sang this song several times a day. The rain poured every day what seemed like 40 days.
Perhaps Mrs Tharpe is allowing them to sing along and play harmonica in Heaven!

A true legend who influenced so many people...She`s in the Hall of Fame now, but even that took too long....You should have let the video finish...After the words on the screen at the very end she had something nice to say to the audience.

This is 1964, I think. She toured the UK with Muddy Waters. She was on the radio in the 1930s and ‘40s in the USA and Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis all name her as an influence.

Early rock n roll came from gospel, blues, blue grass, folk and country and Sister Rosetta Tharpe shows you the way. Definitely recommend Big Mama Thornton for your next early rock journey.

@Trevon Womack debatable as it has roots in Scottish and Irish folk music just like blue grass but it is one big melting pot.

My Momma played sister Rosetta and lots of Bessie Smith, Leontyne Price, John Lee Hooker throughout my childhood before she passed when I was 9. THESE incredible women sing the soundtrack to a wonderful young childhood! Thank you for playing this!

Sister Rosetta Tharpe...the Grandmother of Rock n Roll born in the 1910's...She introduced a electric guitar to her Church on Sunday and became famous both in Church and on tour...All the early Rock and Rollers accredited their experimenting with riffs from her...Chuck Berry even said if you watch my shows and Sister Rosetta's shows you will see that I actually based my stage performances after her's....Elvis, Chuck Berry and so many others said Sister Rosetta Tharpe was their inspiration....Sister Tharpe was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2018...after her earlier passing..

This woman is wonderful. So much great "old" music that most folks are missing unless they heard it as a kid. Check out Bessie Smith, Charley Patton, Ma Rainey, Skip James etc., going back to the birth of the blues. I had always heard quotes from guys like Clapton, Page, Keith Richard about how people like Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, Charley Patton had influenced them, and you can hear it. These people were playing the party music of their day, and the soul music for all days.

Wow. A Gibson SG that takes me back to my early years learning to play. Dad got mine out of a Pawn shop $40.00 cash back in 1966. A little note of Rosetta playing at some locations. We Black were not allowed in the audience at some locations down south. And that was the norm for most of the early Black musicians of the day. you could play in the club of White only. But When you took a Break between sessions, You could not eat, or drink in that same club. Day's of old.

I take pride in my rock n roll knowledge and the fact that I only found out about her when i was 52 humbled me. She WAS Rock n roll
Before it had a name. She is the bridge between Robert Johnson’s They’re Red Hot (1936) and Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats
Rocket 88 (1951) . Not enough can be said about her influence.🤘🤘

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was an American singer & guitarist. She attained popularity in the 30's-40's with her gospel recordings & was referred to as "the original soul sister" & "the Godmother of rock & roll". She influenced early rock & roll musicians, including Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley & Jerry Lee Lewis. Tharpe was a pioneer in her guitar technique & used heavy distortion on her electric guitar. Her style of playing influenced British guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck & Keith Richards. Some of her songs are "Rock Me", "That's All", "My Man & I", "The Lonesome Road", "This Train", "Down By The Riverside", "Strange Things Happening Every Day" etc.

Sister Tharpe has so much more than this clip. BTW, the extended cut has a few songs where it shows her mastery of the guitar. There are quite a few video clip from different gigs where she goes she make a guitar scream. Also I agree with you on the "Talking" part of the reaction and the Sister is very good. Glad that she is on the menu and hope for more (Please) :)

She was originally belting this out in the 40's. Don't know when this was performed. The studio version of this is golden.
Don't lose the symbolism she was performing on the other side of the tracks.
