- This is a look at the well respected and liked Cobra 2000 GTL CB Radio built between 1978 and the early 1990's.
PLEASE NOTE: I stated on the video the microphone is 4 pin Uniden, it is not,it uses a 5 pin set up that only a few Cobras used (unlike the 148GTL DX).
Whilst many were sold in the United States and Canada, not too many made it over to Great Britain or Europe.
This radio has recently been imported into the UK, by a very good friend of mine.
This video is in answer to many of my Subscribers and Friends asking for more classic and vintage radio reviews.

Hello Dave, thank you for sharing. There are some earlier uniden radios with 5-pin mike-plug in my collection: Stalker 9 (Euro-80ch), Stalker 20 (Euro-80ch), President Mc Kinley (Euro-80ch), President Grant FCC (40ch) and the old SUPER STAR 360 (no FM)..73's de Stef..

My dad had a 142 it was a great radio
i have one of these. from the original first bach of taiwan
dated 1983 with uniden board. and modifications. works great and in near mint condition
with a Starduster m-400 antenna.

Well, if you were a cobra person this was your dream rig. And it CAN make exec audio and gets out very good to exec. Withe the right "mods." But it's really not a, say, Browning or a Stoner or a , an executive or Polycom from the tube days or a really good Tram.

I don't know why TH-cam's algorithm decided to put this video in my recommendations 8 yrs later, but hey ho, I do watch the odd chicken box video now and again I s'pose 😉
@pepsiholic2008 They fitted PA on every radio for some mad reason Chris..............maybe to use the 2000 GTL on a Butlins (or a similar American type) holiday camp to wake the campers up ........Hi De Hi!!!!...........LOL

the 2000 is a very nice radio i owed a few back in the day but always had problems with the meters are the frequincy counter always wacking out other then that great radio.........
believe that I still have both models working along w/ a Robin tube mobile/base w/ a D104 gold Eagle

I know it was one of the best. it cost me four hundred dollar was a lot of money. I loaned it to a buddy and it got stolen according to him. I wish i had not done that.I ran mine wit a three hundred tube amp and a supper scanner. I traded that suppper scanner for a fully tuned two meeter. wish i HAD NOT DONE IT IN HIND SIGHT

One of the very best Dave for sure. I love mine, but then I'd be a bit biased seeing as I am a serial Cobra/Uniden collector.

If you check out my other videos you'll see my 1973 E.F Johnson 50th year 250 base radio.
The trouble is in the UK (at the moment) FM is the only legal mode to use, so more of a Collectors item to me and other UK Guys.
why not just add FM to it?

0N THE FM THE ONLY ONE RADIO THAT I HAVE FM ON IS A CHOORKE BASE
GE Superbase has much better receive and is on better SSB. The parts and build was much more costly than anything Cobra every made. Its weak spots were its caps and clarifer. Also a frequency counter was not part of the radio. But on the test bench It is a much better radio. In the hands of a good tech WOW! Remember Cobra is still making CB radios, and profit is the reason. Build cheep crap and they will buy.
nicde design and a superbe freq meter a design well ahaid of it's time, since the reg meters came standard 20 yrs later.
some say the president madison was superior n bult quality, can someone confirm?
I have 4 cobra 2000gtl very nice radios but the rci 2995 is better .;......
This and the cobra148 gtl dx...anything uniden built where considered the best radios,Ranger,Galaxy are just poorly made radios,not made with any passion
sorry bud but thay got to be the worst in cb thay are a splater box only thing thay are good for is if you got a linear that cant take a big swing
